22.01.2022 NOTICE TO ALL WGCA JUNIOR CLUBS: To All Clubs, Based on the Cricket Australia guideline below, the WGCA has decided to cancel all Senior & Junior Grand Finals this week.... We did not take this lightly & felt it was the only option. A decision on Premiers will be advised later in the week. Premier and community cricket In a media release, Cricket Australia said the following: "CA has strongly recommended that all amateur cricket played within the community should cease including community cricket and premier cricket. "While many competitions are coming to an end, we are mindful that some competitions are only just commencing however the recommendation applies to all competitions and training. "This decision is consistent with the measures taken to safeguard professional cricket at the elite level and is supported by State and Territory Associations. "Based on expert advice from CA's Chief Medical Officer John Orchard and recent government information we want to ensure that cricket is doing everything it can to contribute to the global effort to slow, and eventually stop, the spread of coronavirus. "While cricket is a relatively safe and non-contact sport there are considerable measures that need to be in place to adhere to expert advice around reducing the risk of spreading the virus. We focused specifically on minimising the risk and impact on the cricket communities that we lead and serve, as well as their families. "Cricket Australia is continuing to work with State and Territory Associations to ensure we collectively provide ongoing support to local associations and the broader cricket community during this challenging and disruptive time." Thank you, Regards West Gippsland Cricket Association Inc.

19.01.2022 All NWMCA Clubs, players, supporters and members Attached is Cricket Victoria’s updated Return to Train and Play Guidelines As of Monday 22nd June 2020, competi...tions for Non-contact sports (including cricket) will be able to resume for all age groups. Of course, as you are all probably aware, the rules, guidelines and practices are subject to change One thing to note, especially for any team or player looking to get involved in proposed winter cricket - the present rules only allow 20 players on the ground - so that is 10 a side. The guidelines will be posted on the NWMCA website, and the CV website (in the next couple of days). If we are advised of any change to these guidelines, we will forward to clubs as soon as we can #staysafe Regards Bill Maddern NWMCA Admin

11.01.2022 The WGCA held its Junior Presentation event on April 18th at the Kooweerup Community Centre. Premiership teams and individual winners of awards were warmly applauded for their efforts as their trophies were presented. The WGCA ‘s Female Cricket Ambassador, Nicole Faltum, attended and addressed the audience commenting upon her career which has taken her to the top of Victorian Cricket including Melbourne Stars Women’s Big Bash Final. The WGCA decided to institute two new med...als to recognise two volunteers in our Junior Cricket. The first was to recognise the work Steve Simpson did as Junior Coordinator at Tooradin C.C. as well as his efforts in representative cricket particularly in VMCU carnivals. Steve passed away in 2020. The medal for 2020/21 was presented to Brodie Matthews of Cranbourne Meadows U16 at the recent WGCA Junior presentation afternoon and was presented by Steve’s wife Nikki Simpson. A second medal has been instituted to recognise the work that Barry Freeman has done for Tooradin and the WGCA. This was presented by Barry Freeman to the player of the year for the WGCA U12’s Campbell Moncrieff from Cardinia. Barry first played at then Tooradin - Cardinia Cricket Club in the early 1970’s. After a short stint he completed a teaching post at Wonthaggi and Barry returned to Tooradin in 1981. He was club President when Tooradin became a stand alone club as Cardinia commenced its own history again at E.Gunton oval. Barry stamped himself as a top line wicket keeper batsman. However his greatest legacy to the WGCA has been as a successful coach. He enjoyed teaching youngsters from U10’s through to U16’s over a period of 28 years. He has loved educating young cricketers like Tooradin’s Dylan Sutton and Andrew Proctor in the finer points of the game, including reinforcing the Spirit of the Game. Barry emphasised that he always taught his proteges to enjoy the game but ensure that they showed respect to all participants. West Gippsland cricket is honoured to have enjoyed Barry’s influence. Well done to all winners and a big thank you to Shona Lynch (Junior Cricket Coordinator) for her hard work during the season and great organisation of the afternoon!

10.01.2022 Putting the health and safety of all participants, volunteers and the wider community first, and in line with the decisions made for elite cricket, Cricket Aust...ralia has recommended that all Premier and Community Cricket competitions cancel all cricket activity for the remainder of the 2019/20 season. Your local State or Territory Association is communicating directly with its clubs, associations, school competitions and indoor centres with more detailed advice. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

06.01.2022 Message from CA on COVID-19 We extend our appreciation to the Australian Cricket community for your patience and support as we work through together the implica...tions of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The impact to all communities throughout the world has been immense. Cricket is doing everything it can to play its part in contributing to the global effort to slow, and eventually stop, the spread of coronavirus. We thank all associations, competitions and clubs who embraced Australian cricket’s recommendation to cancel the remainder of the 2019/20 Premier and Community Cricket season. This recommendation was based on expert advice from Cricket Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, in conjunction with consultation with government. Acknowledging that many of these competitions were approaching finals, we share your disappointment in the early conclusion of the season. However, our number one priority is always the health and safety of all cricket participants -staff, officials, volunteers or players - and we will continue to make recommendations based on this principle. As the impact of the pandemic will extend well beyond the conclusion of the 2019/20 season, we understand that traditional end of season functions and awards have also been impacted. As federal and state social distancing regulations are now in force, we ask you to comply with these at your club or association. While many competitions have come to an end, we are mindful that cricket including indoor cricket - is just starting or about to commence in some parts of the country. The Australian Government announced extended restrictions on social gatherings effective from midnight on March 25, 2020. Of particular relevance to cricket is that social sport activities are now prohibited throughout the country and will be enforced by state and territory authorities. All Australians should follow Government advice to stay at home unless absolutely necessary to leave. Whilst we love the game, we all must acknowledge that cricket is not a necessary activity in the context of the global effort to control the COVID-19 pandemic. As it currently stands, the earliest possible date cricket can be played throughout Australia, including indoor cricket centres, is May 31, 2020. As the coronavirus outbreak is an evolving issue, we will be reviewing this date on May 1, 2020 and any decisions on starting or recommencing competitions will be made carefully in line with latest government advice. Please keep an eye out for further communication on this topic on all of our social platforms as we continue to monitor the situation. For further information please go to our COVID-19 Information & FAQ page. Once again, thank you for your support and patience in these challenging times. Hopefully we will be back playing the game we love soon, but in the meantime, take care of yourselves and others in your community. Kind regards, Cricket Australia
