The theme #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe recognises that First Nations people have occupied & cared for this continent for 65,000+ years & are the oldest continuing cultures in the world. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. We'll be launching our Reconciliation Action Plan next Thurs 19 Nov 2020, and we intend to start our journey to make our organisation accountable, safe, responsive & respectful to our First Nations communities in Melbourne's west

13.01.2022 The right to a safe home is a fundamental human right. Sadly many of our Western suburbs clients struggle to find a safe place to live. The recent announcement by the Vic State government is an important first step to address this issue. Much thanks to all those involved!

07.01.2022 Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), a day to celebrate LGBTIQA+ people all around the world, raise awareness about the ongoing violence towards and discrimination against the LGBTIQA+ community and acknowledge the work that still needs to be done in this space. 17 May is significant, because on this day in 1990 - the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. To celebrate, the WEstjustice team will be watching We’re All In This Together a short film retelling the stories of community activists who have paved the way for LGBTIQA+ rights. We will also hear from guest speaker Jude Munro, whose story features in this film. Jude will tell us a little about her own experiences, and will give us an update on the soon to be opened Victorian Pride Centre.

02.01.2022 On National Sorry Day WEstjustice acknowledge the mistreatment of our First Nations people throughout our history & ongoing and we recognise the impact of the stolen generations including loss of family & cultural connection for so many people. We see in our everyday work that these impacts continue & that just saying sorry isn’t enough. We commit to listening, learning & supporting the work that must be done for justice, reconciliation & Treaty #SorryDay2021

01.01.2022 In #NRW2021 week, as part of the continuous journey towards Reconciliation the WEstjustice is joining together for a series of events to listen to the voices of First Nations people and reflect on the further actions we need to take as individuals & as an organisation #MoreThanAWord #alwayswasalwayswillbe so we can work to collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures

01.01.2022 WEstjustice stands with Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service - VALS to call for bail law reform - current bail laws disproportionately impact Aboriginal people and ignore the harm resulting from imprisoning often already traumatised young people and women #MoreThanAWord Jaclyn Symes
