24.01.2022 Athletics is ON!!!Athletics is ON!!!

24.01.2022 Results from last night's competition have now been uploaded to the club website and ResultsHQ. Even though we had to cut the night a bit short due to lightning it was great to actually get out in the field with 93 out of 107 athletes in attendance! RECORD BREAKERS ... There were two centre records broken, both in Discus. Addison Bass broke the U11 girls Discus record with a throw of 26.19m! Hayden Waters broke the U13 boys Discus record with a throw of 31.02m! PERSONAL BESTS As we've only just completed our first event rotation most athletes are still setting their initial PBs for the season. From next week onwards we will begin to highlight athletes who have set a lot of PBs each week. Here's hoping next week can actually be on. :) (without some major dramas)

22.01.2022 Miracles might happen....

22.01.2022 ATTENTION U9-12 PARENTS Our state qualifier entries have now been submitted. No further entries will be accepted.

21.01.2022 JOURNEY OF A PLASTIC BOTTLE Every day, Australians consume around 9,600 tonnes of plastic - much of which is in the form of plastic drink containers. Launched in Dec 2017, the NSW Return and Earn scheme now has between 5 and 7 million drink containers returned each day. But the question most people still ask is: what happens to these plastic drink containers when they get returned and are they actually getting recycled?? ... The answer is Yes! 100% of them are getting recycled, the majority of them back into bottles and cans again as part of the new Circular Economy. In this film, Tim Silverwood shows us what happens to a plastic bottle along the way once it’s returned to a reverse vending machine and how the clean material stream and lack of contamination gives them the best chance of becoming food grade high quality drink bottles again and again. In so doing we use fewer raw materials and less energy making new containers from virgin raw materials. It’s the circular economy in action! And while you’re helping the environment, you can also support our work! If you can spare a few drink containers, please donate your 10c refunds to us. Simply press DONATE on the screens and select Westlakes Athletics 100% of the refunds gets transferred to us and help provide new and improved equipment for our athletes Until 21st February, we are your local donation partner at Wangi Oval and Croft Oval. Thanks a lot for your support! With myTOMRA Australia #returnandearn #recycle

14.01.2022 Results from last night's competition (27/11) have now been uploaded to the Club Website and ResultsHQ For the first time in what seems like ages we had awesome weather to go with our usual great atmosphere of encouragement and friendly competition. We had 83 of 107 athletes on the track last night which was a great result.... RECORD BREAKERS There were three centre records broken last night. Max Casamento broke the U13 boys 3000m record setting a new time of 11 minutes 34.31 seconds! Jacob Wheeler broke the U14 boys 3000m record setting a new time of 11 minutes 36.56 seconds! (This might ease the pain of Max breaking his U13s record a few seconds earlier) Larissa Hobbs broke her own Women's Open Triple Jump record, with a new distance of 8.93m! (We have only just introduced Open record keeping, so Larissa has been setting a lot of records lately, but this is the first time she has broken one.) PERSONAL BESTS In total there were 139 PBs set by our athletes last night. We had four athletes set PBs in every event! These were Alex Campbell, Isaac Croak, Hannah Hutchinson-Green and Kaleb Hamilton! We'd also like to congratulate all the U12s as every single one of them set a PB in Shot Put! We will update the season best sheet for U9-12s to help people work out what events to nominate for the State Qualifier over the next day or so, although we are happy to report that we had quite a few new athletes qualify to nominate for this carnival which is AWESOME!!!

12.01.2022 Just a reminder : Club training this afternoon from 5-6pm. Walks training this afternoon from 5-6pm also. (Original post said 6pm onwards) If you're in u9-12 and want to practice an event you want to nominate for the state qualifier then this is a great opportunity!

05.01.2022 It's a BEAUTIFUL afternoon for some athletics! Just like last week the sheets in the folders are correct but have the wrong date. It's the week 1 program.

05.01.2022 Thanks to those who have offered to help setup over the last few weeks. We had 3 families lined up for the last 2 weeks which was awesome, but we only have one this week. If you can help us out this week, or into the future please let us know via this form.... https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSdelOKHD4BJxWJIo/viewform

04.01.2022 Results from last night's competition (15/1) have now been uploaded to the Club Website and ResultsHQ. We were slightly down on numbers this week due to the school holidays, but we still had 76 of 107 athletes in attendance which was a great result. As more people return from the break we will hopefully get back up to the 90-95 area. RECORD BREAKERS ... There was ONE Club Record broken last night, with Alex Campbell breaking the U12 Boys Shot Put record with a distance of 9.33m! PERSONAL BESTS It was a pretty warm evening with no prevailing winds which meant we only had 67 PBs, our lowest amount of the season by a long way (previous low 139) No one got PBs in all of their events, but these athletes all got 3 PBs: Reece Flevill Isla Maxwell Paige Wheeler Olivia Every-Burns Kaleb Hamilton It was great to see everyone's smiling faces again for 2021!!!

02.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET
