25.01.2022 Sport and mateship at its absolute best. Well worth clicking through to the article for the full details.

25.01.2022 Our last two posts have been about canceling events. And we appreciate that all of the news and the serious situation which we are facing may weigh heavily for some of us. So over the coming weeks, we will try to bring a smile to our faces as we are reminded of the saying that Laughter is the Best Medicine.

25.01.2022 We know ANZAC Day will be a little different as we are unable to attend the Dawn Services or salute our Servicemen and Women on their march. But we can still show our respect and gratitude by joining our neighbours around the country to #lightupthedawn. From 6.00am tomorrow morning lets all come together - at home- and honour those who have served and have fallen.

25.01.2022 Please note the advice below from the Westleigh RFB of a planned hazard reduction this weekend in the valley between Westleigh and Dural and take care if conditions are smoky.

23.01.2022 A reminder that our open day is on tomorrow from 9.00 to 12.00. With plenty of activities on and off the tennis court including coaching, Hot Shots, for the kids, face painting balloons, Fire Truck display. Plenty of prizes to be given away, and with a coffee van in attendance plus the Firies manning their famous barbeque, come and treat yourself to brunch in the park. And just to make us all smile, the weather forecast is for an extremely pleasant 25 degrees.

23.01.2022 Whilst this is magnificent weather - for ducks, and hopefully, our farmers - it is not ideal for any tennis activities. With the Courts underwater, sodden grounds, and more showers on the way, we are postponing tomorrows Open Day to a later date. A big thank you to everyone who had indicated that they were coming along, and to everyone who had helped us prepare for tomorrow. We will be back to you soon about a rescheduled date.

23.01.2022 Courts Closed from Tomorrow As we all knuckle down and do our parts individually and collectively, to fight the spread of the virus, the Westleigh Courts and Clubhouse will be closed with effect of midnight tonight. please refer information from Tennis NSW below. We, like everyone in the community are saddened by the impact Covid-19 is having across the globe. But we remain positive in the knowledge that we will come through the other side of this period, and that normality will return to each of our lives. But in the meantime to our members, and all players on our courts, and to your families, stay safe, stay strong and stay positive.

22.01.2022 At the Westleigh Tennis Club, we often say that we are run by the community for the community, but our efforts are insignificant in the whole scheme of things. This week, Sydney is the proud host of The Invictus Games, and we cannot think of a more telling example of men and women who serve their countries and their own communities. Inspirational and heroic, we wish everyone, competitors, their families, and supporters an epic week, many new friendships and wonderful memories. Our thanks and gratitude, you humble us and you inspire us.

20.01.2022 We are looking forward to the next two weeks. Hope your personal favorites have great tournaments.

18.01.2022 To all the Dads out there - HAPPY FATHERS DAY In a year full of curveballs, we hope all the Dads and your families can have an enjoyable day.

17.01.2022 We saddened to have found someone has vandalised our internal door in the clubhouse last week. This, on top of other damage and trashing of the external public bathrooms in recent weeks. It is disappointing that some people will treat our communitys property in such a disrespectful way. Our thanks to the council rangers do a sterling job in cleaning up these all too frequent willful messes to the facilities in our wonderful popular park. If you do observe anyone mistreating any of our public assets in and around the park, please report to Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or at the following link https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/

17.01.2022 Great News Courts are reopening - for singles only at this stage. We have been monitoring the overall situation, and as the news on the spread of COVID-19 is easing, we are wrapt to be able to advise that the courts will be reopening from Saturday 9 May, subject to certain conditions in accordance with the Tennis NSW COVID-19 Guidelines - see link below:... https://www.tennis.com.au//TNSW-COVID-19-Community-Tennis- The main points to note are: - no more than 2 people on court at a time - no social gatherings on or outside the courts - the clubhouse, including verandah, remains closed - normal social distancing and hygiene protocols will apply on court - please bring sterilizing wipes to clean the lock, gate handle, and any other hard surface that you may touch Online bookings will be available from Friday. We ask that those members who do plan to start back playing singles, if you could please advise the club secretary via email at [email protected] so your bookings can be reactivated. If your group is strictly doubles only, we hope that guidelines will continue to be relaxed and doubles will be permitted soon. We are not there yet, but hopefully, it is not too far off. In the meantime, for those groups not wanting to recommence for singles play, your bookings will continue to be held in abeyance and no fees charged. We do ask that everyone respect and follow the guidelines for playing during these most challenging times. We rely on everyone doing the right thing to be able to keep the courts open for use. But again, yippee, we are back on, and our sincere, heartfelt thank you to all our members and players for their support and understanding.

17.01.2022 A positive message from a positive role model. The Westleigh Tennis Club wholeheartedly shares the views of the message. We have, for the past few years been supporting local primary schools with their fund raising activities through the donation of tennis packs including racquets, balls, and court hire vouchers. Here at the club we all love a game of tennis and hope that by providing these packs, some local families and children, in particular, will also share our enthusiasm for hitting a tennis ball. Ash Bartys message though is relevant for any sport that you might be interested in. Just get out there and enjoy yourself.

15.01.2022 We have been loving the tennis this week!

14.01.2022 Change to Clubhouse Use Based on our understanding of the recent government requirements concerning COVID-19, the clubhouse facilities (inside the building and on the verandah) are not to be used until further advised. Tennis, however, can still be played on the courts unless there are further restrictions imposed by the Government. Those using the courts should observe the personal space requirements and wash their hands before and after playing tennis. ... Access to the Clubhouse for turning on the lights will still be available. We appreciate your co-operation in this difficult time. We will notify you of any changes to the above as they occur.

13.01.2022 WANT A LONGER LIFE - PLAY TENNIS! We knew that playing tennis was fun and sociable, plus had the fitness benefits, but we did not know how beneficial! The Following report on ABC Radio National Health report 3 December 2018:... "Most physical activity is beneficial, but according to this latest piece of research, published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, not equally so, at least when it comes to increases in life expectancy. Researchers followed 9,000 people for up to 25 years, tracking what physical activity they did and when they died. They looked at an activity like tennis, badminton, soccer, jogging, swimming and going to the gym. ... calculated it and then we found out that tennis players will live 10 years longer..." you can listen to the full report at: www.abc.net.au//he/want-a-longer-life-play-tennis/10576424 .

13.01.2022 Please be aware of local Hazard Reduction Burns occurring this weekend, particularly Sunday when the bush as close as Eucalytus Drive and Elouera Road. Like the rest of Wetleigh we are pleased to see the bushfire mitigation measures around Westleigh continuing, and we pass on our gratitude to the National Parks and RFS. Please consider the conditions when playing tennis, and if it become too smoky we recommend you not to continue playing. If your booking is affected then please let the club know, by usual contacts or back through facebook, and we will sort out a credit for the booking. And a final reminder that due to Covid-19, the clubhouse remains closed and may only be accessed to turn on the court lights thank you. Stay well everyone.

13.01.2022 The Westleigh Rural Fire Brigade is again holding that most favoured Westleigh Tradition this Sunday - their annual Santa Run. The Run culminates with Santa and the Firies visiting the many families at Ruddock Park around midday, depending on how well behaved the reindeers have been. This year, the Club will be adding to the festive spirit and giving away free court hire vouchers, so come on down and support the wonderful efforts of our local volunteer firies, and pick up a free voucher at the same time.

13.01.2022 Huge congratulations to the WWBA for their fireworks extravaganza Saturday night. It was wonderful seeing so many people out and about enjoying a mild winters evening. Ruddock Park was buzzing with this great community event. Great effort and our thanks to everyone involved. We always respect the hard work from other organisations run by the hard work of volunteers.

13.01.2022 Two of our favourite weeks of the year have just commenced. We will share some of the entertainment over the coming days, but to kick it off, a nod to all of the behind the scenes people who keep a tennis club running - no matter how big the Club. So from all of us, a big thumbs up right back at you Mr Linesperson.

12.01.2022 Members Social Night Cancelled given the current situation in regards to communal gatherings, we have decided to cancel tonights social get together. Whilst disappointed, we feel this to be the responsible, albeit regrettable step. Once we have all gotten through the Coronavirus impact, we will reschedule and look forward to celebrating a return to normal conditions.... In the meantime, we wish all of our members well, as the community bands together to see through the current challenges. And with all of this very serious news going on around us, we thought we could do with a little respite.

12.01.2022 We are always happy to help out our local schools wherever we can. OLOR Waitara, is holding its Spring Fair this Sunday. We have donated a Tennis pack including new Babolat racquet, court hire and coaching vouchers. All up a value of over $300. So if you are looking for a new raquet, why not make a bid, at their on-line auction.

11.01.2022 looking for a fun, healthy activity for the kids these holidays?

11.01.2022 Welcome back to Doubles! Yep, we are thrilled to at last be able to pass on the news - the authorities are now permitting doubles tennis. Please, whilst we are certainly heading in the right direction back towards normality, we all need to continue doing our part to ensure we do not cause another outbreak that will see tougher restrictions imposed. ... So please keep on following the guidelines. In particular, we remind everyone that the clubhouse remains closed, and is only to be accessed to turn on the court lights. Please, it is NOT to be used for social gatherings. If this rule is not adhered to we will have to review whether the courts can remain open. So again, please do the right thing, and enjoy the courts, but not the clubhouse for the time being.

11.01.2022 Members' Social Night Cancelled given the current situation in regards to communal gatherings, we have decided to cancel tonight's social get together.

10.01.2022 It is that time of the year again when our Friends at the Westleigh Rural Fire Brigade will be spreading the Joy to our community with their annual Santa Run. They anticipate stopping at Ruddock Park around 2.00. We hope that all of our members will come along to express our thanks for continuing this favourite Westleigh tradition, and more importantly, this year, to show our appreciation for all of their tireless efforts in fighting the fires raging across the state these past months.

09.01.2022 Open Day to be rescheduled to 2019. With the continued wet weather and return of the school term we were, unfortunately, unable to reschedule the Open Day these school holidays. And once again a huge thank you to all involved in preparing for the Day, The Club appreciated everyones efforts.

08.01.2022 Well, calling off our Fun Day was a surefire way of halting the rain. And it is great to see the sun after the week we have had. But the courts are still unplayable as the photo taken this morning shows. So as it turns out, we could not have held the day, even though the rain has taken a break. Apologies to everyone who had not caught yesterdays message and turned up this morning. Hope you at least enjoyed having the sun on your backs for a while. We hope to see you soon.

07.01.2022 The Club once again proudly supported the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District Tennis Association 2018 Hornsby Festival of Tennis and its Fund Raising for the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Womens Shelter. Members who attended last years AGM would recall our Guest Speaker was a representative from the shelter, and who detailed the wonderful, and essential services and refuge that the Shelter provides to local victims of domestic violence. Thank you to Committee members Rosemary and Alison for attending the cheque hand over.

07.01.2022 April Tennis Camp Cancelled As the community pulls together to help mitigate the spread of Coronaviris over the coming weeks, we have elected to cancel the April Tennis Camp scheduled 20-24th April. Avoiding unnecessary prolonged group activities is the responsible action to take, unfortunately. But the good news is that having a game of Tennis ticks all the boxes as a fun activity whilst still maintaining the social distancing etiquette. So the courts remain available for ...normal booking and use, so it still remains a fun family activity, for the school holiday. If anyone has already booked for the camp, refunds will be arranged. thank you, Westleigh Tennis Club. See more

05.01.2022 To all of our Members and friends - we wish you a very happy new year and heaps of fun tennis times during 2019

03.01.2022 The Club is always appreciative of the wonderful support our friends at the Westleigh Rural Fire Brigade provide to the Club, and our local community. Thank you for the update, and coming from within our community the messages seem even more relevant. From our Members to yours, thank you for all that you do, and look after each other out there. #wrfb
