18.01.2022 The Balonne Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is urging residents to cancel any Easter travel plans and not invite family into the shire for the four-day b...reak in line with the Queensland Premiers messaging. LDMG Local Disaster Coordinator Matthew Magin said there were no confirmed cases in the region and the group wanted to keep it that way. There have been some concerns raised with the group regarding people travelling into our Shire to visit family for the Easter Weekend, he said. The Premier of Queensland has told people not to go on holidays, do not travel unless absolutely necessary and that people should stay in their own suburbs. The Balonne LDMG wants to reinforce that message by asking residents to advise their families against travelling unless it is absolutely necessary. We have a large number of people who are vulnerable to novel coronavirus in our communities and we want our community to help protect them by encouraging their families not to visit the shire and cancel their travel plans. Mr Magin understood these were difficult times for families. Being isolated from your family is stressful, but the Queensland Premier is asking people to switch to a phone call, video call or email rather than visiting family members face to face to help stop the spread of COVID-19, he said. The LDMG supports the Premier in that stance and urges all residents to remain in their primary place of residence over the break. If we all work together to help contain the spread of this pandemic we will get through this. It is hard, but it needs to be done. Queensland Health also advised the group of new restrictions to visits to hospitals. To protect the most vulnerable people the following visitor restrictions are now in place. Each patient may have one visit per day for up to two hours, no more than two people per visit. You may not visit a hospital if you: have been asked to self-quarantine due to travel overseas or interstate or close contact with a person who has novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the previous 14 days. Are unwell in any way, particularly with a fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. Are under the age of 16 (unless as a patient) One person may remain with a patient at all times when needed for the following: Carers for children under the age of 18 Carers for people with a disability Partner or support person when the patient is admitted for care related to the pregnancy Support person for emergency department or outpatient care appointments Additional exemptions may be granted for end-of-life support. Please discuss with the patients treating team. See more

16.01.2022 BREAKING: From midday, New South Wales local government areas of Liverpool and Campbelltown will be declared COVID-19 hotspots. Queensland borders remain closed... to Victoria, where all local government areas are declared hotspots. Travellers who have been in a COVID-19 hotspot within the past 14 days cant quarantine in Queensland and will be turned away at our borders. Weve issued an urgent health alert for Queenslanders who attended the Crossroads Hotel in Casula, NSW from July 3 to July 10. 16.01.2022 To be COVID Safe, licensed venues are required to record contact details of patrons and store them securely. If youre going out for drinks or a meal, make sur...e you provide your details at the door. Weve seen in recent weeks, just how important providing and collecting accurate contact information is. We may also ask to check your ID to confirm your details. Your privacy matters to us and your details would be used for contact tracing purposes ONLY. Venues are required to store patron details securely for 56 days. OLGR and QPS are checking not only the requirement of a venue to gather these details, but also how they are being stored. Lets all do our part to keep Queensland COVID safe.

09.01.2022 The Balonne Shire Council has closed all public camping areas across the shire as a result of COVID-19. Councils Chief Executive Officer Matthew Magin said thi...s was being done in strict accordance with the Queensland Governments Non Essential Business Closure Direction. This is a direction from the Chief Health Officer in accordance with emergency powers arising from the declared public health emergency (Public Health Act 2005 QLD), he said. The non-essential business closure direction is very explicit and there are no exceptions allowed. We have commenced the process by putting up appropriate signage, locking ablution blocks and seeking assistance from the Queensland Police Service to move people on. Obviously this is causing some angst for both the travelling public and our Council Town Officers, however we do not have a choice in this matter the direction from the State Government is very clear and unambiguous. This is a very trying time for everyone involved and Council is doing its best to protect our community from the spread of the COVID -19 virus within the confines of its legislative powers to do so. Mr Magin said all of the Shires libraries were now closed until further notice. Our residents are able to use the Rural Library of Queensland network and we encourage residents to register so they can use the online Borrow Box and Story Box library resources, he said. For registration, Balonne Shire residents can contact Council on 07 4620 8888 and ask to be put through to the St George library. Instructions on how to use the online libraries can be found at https://www.balonne.qld.gov.au//li/library-locations-hours See more

07.01.2022 Due to the covid-19 outbreak Westmar has put in to place extra measures to help stop the spread of this virus. This includes providing hand sanitizer to customers and introducing commercial grade bench sprays for all surfaces, regular cleaning and disinfecting of exposed surfaces. We have put these measures into practice to protect our staff and customers. We are more then happy to order what we can and make deliveries if need be to outlying properties. Please note that lik...e all businesses we are struggling to get some supplies including toilet paper. Please look after yourselves, stay home if need be and this in turn will help protect the more vulnerable in our community. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as required. Thank you Bill and Donna

03.01.2022 Did you know.... I found this on a website and thought it was worth sharing. A lovely military man selling poppies stopped me today and asked if he could reposition mine - while doing so he told me that women should wear their poppy on their right side; the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didnt have their loved ones return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11 oclock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War One formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldnt understand this and his generation wouldnt be around for much longer to teach them.
