14.01.2022 Spring is in the air and with it comes some extra things to consider when caring for your pets, including the presence of grass seeds. Each year starting at around this time we get an influx of dogs coming in to the clinic who have ended up getting these pesky things buried under their skin, and it requires surgery to dig them out! Some unlucky ones even get them stuck down their ear canals or in their eyes. Each Spring there seems to be a new type of seed more evil than... the last and this year is no exception! These corkscrew shaped little devils are everywhere right now, and we are starting to see a lot of long haired dogs with these caught up in their paws and on their bellies. This entire pile of seeds was carefully picked out of just one paw from a patient of ours! They are the perfect shape to get caught up in hair, work their way under the skin and cause a lot of pain and damage. So if you have a dog, particularly one with long hair, make sure you check their fur after each walk to ensure you and your doggo don't end up at the vet! See more

09.01.2022 Adorable little Jacqui was in recently for a seniors health check. We classify dogs as seniors from 9 years of age for small dogs, and 6 years of age for large breed dogs. We classify cats as seniors from 9 years of age. Once your pet is a senior, we recommend 6 monthly health checks with their vet, to allow early identification and management of diseases common in the older pet. Dogs and cats age much more rapidly than us, therefore a lot can change in 6 months! S...o what signs should you watch out for that may mean your old friend needs a check up? Increased or decreased appetite or thirst Weight gain or loss Reduction in grooming or greasy hair Having problems with urination and/or defecation Changes in normal home behaviour Persistent cough New lumps or bumps. Bad breath, tartar on teeth or bleeding gums Trouble getting up, difficulty walking or taking the stairs If you notice any of these signs, please call us to make an appointment or book online. 05.01.2022 We would like to take a moment this Reconciliation Day to recognise the original custodians of this land - the Ngunnawal people - and pay our respects to their elders both past and present. Our team is very proud to be part of a vet group that helps to provide medical care for pets in some of the remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory. Participating in this program is really the least we can do to help give back to our indigenous people. This is their land, a...nd we are incredibly lucky to be able to share it with them. We hope all of our clients have a relaxing long weekend. We are closed today, however if your pet needs medical care, please call the ARH in Fyshwick on 6280 6344

03.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we must let you all know that Dr. Ivan has decided to retire from the veterinary profession. Ivan has not made this decision lightly, and we wish him all the best on the next stage of his journey. For the last 20 years Ivan has been a pillar in our Weston Creek community, doing everything he could to ensure that everybody's pets were taken care of to the best of his ability. He is well known and well loved for his kindness, genuine compassion for... your pets, and genuine care for you as his clients and friends. As well as this, Ivan has been an incredibly supportive and empathetic boss to many employees over the years, and several of us have been working for him for more than a decade now, which says a lot. Ivan has been the sole owner of the Weston Woden Animal Hospital for many years now, until March 2019 when he partnered up with some other Canberran vets (and good friends) to become apart of a local vet group. These friends - Alison and Bill Taylor, Michael Archinal, and Kate Pickles - along with the rest of our regular team of vets and nurses, will continue to run the Weston Woden Animal Hospital with as much care and compassion that Ivan has for so long now. Ivan's last day at WWAH will be next Wednesday the 25th of November. We wish him all the best for his next adventure, and we know that you do too. The team at Weston Woden Animal Hospital.
