14.01.2022 2020 Blue switch day souvenir starts today until Dec 31st. 2020 is a special year for geocaching as it marks the 20th year of people around the world using GPS technology to find adventure, community, and of course geocaches. This was all made possible by the events that took place on May 2, 2000, or as geocachers call it, Blue Switch Day. Before this day, accurate GPS technology was only selectively available. On May 2, 2000 the U.S. government flipped the switch and Selec...tive Availability was turned off, suddenly making accurate GPS technology available to all. Were celebrating the 20th anniversary of this day with a brand new Blue Switch Day souvenir! We recognize that for many of us in our community going outside to earn this souvenir is not an option right now based on advisories from public health authorities. Due to these circumstances we decided to make the Blue Switch Day souvenir available from May 2 through December 31, 2020. Starting May 2 through the end of the year, earn the Blue Switch Day 2020 souvenir by finding a geocache, Adventure Lab, or attending an Event.

14.01.2022 West Oz Geocaching would like to set up a "cache of the month." Each month we will ask for nomination through the link provided for specific cache types (Traditional, Multi, Puzzle etc) and also limit it to years (recently published in the last 12 months, published prior to and or after certain years). Once the nominations are in a Facebook poll or survey will be created to find the people's choice. The cache will then feature on the West Oz website and also be shared with other states. We will ask for the CO to provide any additional commentary they wish to add if they are voted "cache of the month" prior to placing on the website. 14.01.2022 Committee Announcement - WAGB 2020 Hello Members With the recent announcement regarding the postponement of WAGB in Albany during the WA day long weekend in 2020 (due to COVID-19), we felt the need to provide you with further information and the latest decisions made by the committee. ... West Oz Geocaching has come to the decision that a normal weekend towards the end of the year will not suffice and that the WAGB 2020 event in Albany will be in-fact be cancelled. We are currently seeking a venue within the Greater Perth region to hold a one day WAGB event on November 28th 2020. The plan at this stage will be to host a CITO, include the AGM (typically held around this date) and to host a meal (Dinner or lunch). Due to the current pandemic and uncertainty relating to non essential gatherings, information regarding the November 28 event will be limited and we will do our best to update you on a monthly basis. West Oz Geocaching is now looking at 2021 to be the year for Albany. As new bookings need to be arranged; venues are yet to be confirmed however we are working on moving the event to the same locations during the WA Day long weekend in 2021 (June 4th to 7th) further event information for this will be shared once the information becomes available. WAGB 2020 Albany Merchandise Orders: We will be working with the designer to have the year changed on this artwork and all clothing and stickers will reflect this change. Current Merchandise orders for clothing can be refunded if you wish, simply reply to this email or email [email protected] with your order and bank details. Your order will be cancelled when funds are returned. If you wish to proceed with your orders an early release will be issued once the artwork has been changed and the supplier can manufacture. All cancelations and or orders for early release need to be completed by 30th April 2020. At this point in time we will have no merchandise on offer for the planned November event due to the uncertainty ahead of us at this present time. Coin collectors: We are planning on a commemorative coin for 2021 relating to 20 years of geocaching in WA. This will be the only coin available during the 2021 WAGB plans so that the printed 2020 Albany coin still holds merit. Unfortunately the coins for 2019 and 2020 have been made and these are committed too, for those that have purchased a coin already we will endeavour to get these to you at the next event and thank you for your understanding. (postage will be a last resort) For now we will be removing all info relating to WAGB off the website and Facebook. The current planned events will soon be archived.
