24.01.2022 AFL Community Umpiring Week Wednesday night saw Trent McPhee return back to the West Perth Umpiring group. Trent started his umpiring journey with us in 2009 and is now on the AFL rookie panel. Trent is an example that with hard work, umpiring can be a very rewarding industry. Trent was also on hand to teach our young umpire group valuable lessons as we head into round 2 of the junior football season. Thankyou Trent!
24.01.2022 Pre Season Begins Tomorrow Our first preseason training session of the year will be at 5.30-7pm on Wednesday February 19th at Blue Lake Park in Joondalup, at the corner of Blue Mountain Drive and Manyarra Turn. This session will consist of grass and pavement running, so please ensure you wear appropriate footwear & also bring a water bottle and towel for the possible warm weather. ... We hope to see many new faces down at Blue Lake Park, to join our already great team on the road to the 2020 season!
23.01.2022 Are you fit enough to run with AFL Umpires? It's hard to maintain fitness outside of umpiring normally, let alone in these times of uncertainty. AFL umpires face the same struggles, which is why Rob Jackson, the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the AFL Umpires has released their training plan online for everyone to use. Follow the link below to check this out:... https://robjackson.com.au/field-umpire-training-programs/ A massive thank you to AFL Umpire, and former West Perth Umpire Dan Johanson for sharing this with us. Run hard, stay fit, stay safe and most importantly, keep positive, this is temporary, and it too shall pass
22.01.2022 Milestone! Congratulations to Nick Blanchard who today officiated in his 200th game in the West Perth district. Nick has been a solid part of our group for over ten years and continues to be a great mentor for our young umpires. Well done Nick!!
21.01.2022 Big Thanks!! A huge thank you to all those who volunteered their time today to help raise funds for our wonderful club! Without your help it would not have been possible. Thankyou also to the other members and past members who purchased a sausage & drink throughout the day! Every dollar will make a difference heading into what will be a massive 2020 season!
20.01.2022 Tonights the night for DJ to dance Last week an announcement was made which is not only incredible for our group, but most importantly for this individual, and comes as a reward for years of hard work and dedication getting himself to this point. Dan Johanson has been officially appointed to his first game in the AFL, and will be umpiring alongside Dean Margetts and Jacob Mollison as Fremantle take on Hawthorn at Optus Stadium tonight!!! ... Dan came down and spoke to many of us prior to round 1, and shared with us just a small taste of the work it has taken him to get to this point of his career. This is definitely no easy feat, but Dan has taken every piece of coaching, advice and criticism on board, and it has clearly not gone unnoticed by those at the top. Dan got his first crack at AFL in Round 22 of last year, following the injury of Alex Whetton. Sat on the interchange as the emergency umpire, Dan was quickly called upon to jump on the field and take to the whistle, a moment which he took in his stride and to anyone who saw, looked very much at home on the big stage. This not only fuelled his desire to make it onto the AFL panel, but gave them the opportunity to see the umpire that we know he is. A massive congratulations on your appointment Dan, we at West Perth could not be prouder of you mate! Best of luck with your game, we know youre going to an awesome job! #WPU

From everyone at WPU, we wish you all the best for a great upcoming season!

10.01.2022 Season 2020 is here Last night was our last training session as a group before the start of the 2020 junior football season. We were lucky enough to have a visit from our very own AFL Umpire Dan Johanson, who took time to talk to our umpires about his journey to the AFL, as well as give a few tips to our young and aspiring umpiring group.... Dan was also there to hand out the training shirts to our first year umpires who will be running their first games this weekend. Good luck to all our umpires this weekend!!
08.01.2022 Did someone say play footy and earn ? 29% Of all umpires do exactly this. Nope - its not too late to give it a go this season! SANFL
07.01.2022 Milestone Congratulations to Tim Sharman who last night umpired his 150th game in the West Perth District. Tim is always the first to put his hand up to fill in games on weekends and is a member of the leadership group due to his commitment to our association. Well done on the milestone Timmy!!
07.01.2022 As Im sure youre aware, West Perth has a reputation for producing umpires of a high calibre, with 6 of our umpires on the 2019 WAFL squad, and another 4 in the Hendrie Margetts Development squad. With Justin Power having been promoted to the AFL Squad in 2019, the pressure was on for the next rising star to make their way to the top level. Im very excited and proud to announce that one of these 6 umpires, Daniel Johanson, has been offered an AFL Field Umpiring Contract for... the 2020 Season. Dan started with our district in 2009, and after quickly rising to be recognised as one of the best umpires in the district, joined the Hendrie Margetts Development Squad in 2012. In 2013, Dan transitioned to Senior Community in the WAAFL, now Perth Football League, and after an outstanding year was promoted to the WAFL squad. Dans achievement comes after years of dedication and hard work, having umpired 70 WAFL League games, two seasons in the AFLW Competition and being one of the three Field umpires in this years WAFL Grand Final, alongside fellow West Perth umpire, Jordan Wright. Dan was the first umpire picked to replace recently retired great Shane McInerney, making him umpirings "Number 1 Draft pick" He is now the 6th former WAFL Umpire, and second West Perth Umpire to join the AFL Field Umpiring list. On behalf of everyone here at West Perth, We would like to congratulate Dan on this incredible achievement. We know how hard youve worked to get to this position, and we wish you the best of luck in Melbourne, as you head over and establish yourself as one of the best umpires the AFL has seen
07.01.2022 Milestone Congratulations to Dylan Cooper who in umpired his 150th game in Sunday 18s blue grand final at Revo Stadium, Claremont. Dylan is a valuable member of our group and one of the genuine nice guys in the football world. Dylan wanted to also share his day with two other milestones that happened during the season with both Mitch Whan & Ben Johnson being celebrated on the team banner. ... Well Done Dylan

05.01.2022 Training This Wednesday This week is community umpiring week, and as such we will have the privilege of AFL Umpires Dan Johanson and Trent Mcphee attending our training session on Wednesday. Dan and Trent both hail from West Perth and after a lot of hard work, have made their way onto the AFL Rookie Umpire Squad. This is a great opportunity for you to hear their story, and see where umpiring can take you, so I encourage as many people as possible to get down to training and learn from these great umpires.

01.01.2022 WAFL Grand Finals Id like to take a moment though to acknowledge the achievements of a few WAFL umpires who started their careers with the West Perth Junior District. Dan Johanson and Jordy Wright will be taking the field in the WAFL League Grand Final this Sunday at Optus Stadium.... Blake Evans will be the emergency umpire for the Reserves Grand Final.
