25.01.2022 Hi all, We received advise today from Softball Aus to postpone or cancel our upcoming season. The Executive Committee has discussed and have agreed to postpone our season until early June. Our comp will therefore be 2 rounds only, team fee’s will be recalculated accordingly.... We are also suggesting that training does not commence until further notice. Oval bookings will be cancelled. As advise and situations are changing daily we will do our best to keep everyone promptly informed via SportsTG and our Facebook page. We appreciate your understanding. What a crazy time to be alive. Keep safe all
19.01.2022 Message from the Chair Firstly, on behalf of Softball WA I would like to thank you all for your support, patience and resilience shown throughout the worldwide ...crisis that we all now know as COVID-19. The game of softball helps keep community members connected with each other and for many, softball is not just a game. When faced with the onset of COVID-19 in March we have had to make some rather large and important decisions about the sport in Western Australia. Unfortunately, in making decisions we are not always able to please everyone. Please know though that in making any decision we, as a board, will always make it in the best interests of softball. Since the onset of COVID-19 we have all been working feverishly behind the scenes to ensure that when government restrictions are lifted, we will be able to return to the field. Whilst many of you are no doubt following the regular updates from both a National and State level it is important to understand that just because the National Government lifts certain restrictions we must follow our state government rules especially whilst we are still in a WA legislated ‘State of emergency’. Each state have declared their own state of emergency and this can only be lifted by the individual state hence why each state has dealt with COVID-19 in different ways. On Sunday 10th May 2020, the Premier of Western Australia commenced to lift some restrictions which indicates we are heading in the right direction and a return to all sport may not be far away. One of the restrictions lifted was around resuming training outdoors in groups of 20 or less. At this stage we are unable to commence any competitions and the Mirrabooka International Softball Stadium will not be opening until such time as further restrictions around numbers of people are increased and/or lifted. Our members are our most important asset therefore the health and welfare of you all is our primary concern. We value your input and we will rely on each and every one of you to help us in our ‘Road to Recovery’. To ensure we are prepared for our return to softball we have decided to commence a ‘Road to Recovery’ taskforce to map out how we recover from the current crisis. A member of the board will lead this taskforce with volunteers from the community. If you wish to be involved please contact me direct at [email protected] prior to close of business on Friday 22 May 2020. This is your opportunity to help us bring the game of softball back to the community as soon as we can. I encourage you all to consider this opportunity but please bear in mind there is a lot of work to done which will require an ongoing commitment. I know many of you just want to start playing softball again, trust me, I also would like to see softball being played. It is however extremely important for us to be aware of and abide by all the state government restrictions therefore at this point in time we cannot endorse the commencement of any competitions nor do we know when we may be able to. The Softball WA office will reopen in limited hours commencing Monday 18 May 2020. The opening times will be posted on our Facebook page each Monday until such time as we return to business as usual status. Most clubs by now should have received advice from their local government entities in regard to the use of training grounds and facilities. If you have not already received this advice, please ensure you get in contact with the local government concerned as most have indicated different measures that anyone using the ground will have to abide by. Finally, I would to thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support and I look forward to working towards the successful and safe return of softball in the very near future. I will ensure I keep you updated throughout our ‘Road to Recovery’ but if you have something you would like answered, or have some helpful ideas please let me know via email to [email protected] . 16.01.2022 Gloves down The Executive Committee and the Delegates met last night to gain team nominations for a shorter 2020 season. Unfortunately most teams were not in a position to field a side this year therefore a season will not go ahead in 2020.... With the implementation of a COVID Safety and Recovery Plan and following government restrictions we are hoping to still get out on the diamond in a modified format this year. Keep watch for updates. No need to panic, softball will be back in 2021.
