18.01.2022 Finally the first full game this season and WPCC A1 Mavericks carved out a solid win vs Killara United. And to put it in Ravi Shastri's words as he did in the post match presentation : Today we had a run feast here at Blackman Upper - Over 460 runs scored and in the end it was some smart bowling by Mavericks in the 2nd half of the 2nd inning which saw them victors by 34 runs. We won the toss and batted first.... WPCC A1 Mavericks 6/249 off 35 overs: Rohit - 88 ( 1 Six & 10 Fours) Pradeep - 83 ( 1 Six & 12 Fours) Amar - 22 ( 2 Sixes) Romit - 20 ( 1 Six & 2 Fours) Ash - 15 no ( 1 Six) Pradeep & Rohit produced a batting masterclass with a scintillating 167 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Both deserved tons. First it was Rohit who started the fireworks and then Pradeep stepped up with some amazing shots. Amar, Romit, Ash played useful cameos to set up an imposing total of 249. KU 215 all out off 34.5 overs: Pradeep 4/31 (7 overs) Mac 2/24 ( 4 overs) Rohit 2/10 (1 over) Our new recruit Mac started on fire scalping their openers for just 5. Thereafter a solid 131 run partnership followed which tested us. We tried different bowlers but the breakthrough was not happening. Post drinks Yogi and Pradeep came into the attack and choked the runs big time. Pradeep reaped the rewards of good line and length bowling and finished on 4-fa. Great win to kick-off the season.
15.01.2022 Disappointing loss for the A1 chaps today. Coming up against Old Iggies Spleens we lost the toss and were sent in. We were 1/7 then 2/8 early. Nicko steadying the ship slightly but with wickets falling around him against tight bowling we found ourselves 4/32(15). Then Nicko had some fun. 4 consecutive 4's to start the next over and things were looking up. A 50 run partnership with Brento 19(35) and we were getting something to defend. At 6/93 another solid 42 run partn...ership with Tredders 3(15) saw us reach 7/149 after our 35 with Nicko finishing 89(79) no. A great start from our openers saw them 2/24 early with stats 2/23(7) bowling his 7 straight yet again. After a little partnership Adz chimed in with a double wicket maiden. 4/43 became 5/44 when Sudi 1/43(7) took his first wicket for the club. Anand 0/28 bowled well without luck and the skip 2/33(6.5) toiled along with Adz 2/22(6) but good batting and no luck saw spleens get home 7/150 with 7 balls remaining. Competitive again but just not good enough in the end. On to next week
12.01.2022 Another close loss for the 3rd grade team yesterday vs North Shore @ William Cowan. Our team once again included some new faces and also the come back after a 12 year retirement of a famous west pymblian Andrew the muzzman Murray. We batted first and not only lost wickets at regular intervals but also lost the in form Suman Patnaik due to an injury to his gluteus maximus that resembled him being short by a sniper. Our top scorers were Sash 29 and Indy 24. A last wicket ...rally by Tobias 10 and Sammy 14 saw us limp to 145 which whilst it felt 20-30 short of par was at least competitive. With Suman hurt and Muzz sustaining a couple of injuries in the field also it left our bowling looking quite depleted but we have it a crack. We took early wickets before the batsmen got on top and we ended up losing in the 34th over with them 7 down. Best bowling and clear player of the match was Tobias Clarke with 3 wickets. Thanks for helping us out mate and thanks to Rob Stevens for making him available to help us put 11 on the park. Onwards and upwards to Northbridge next week who btw batted first yesterday and made 259 off 35. Sheeeesh. See more
11.01.2022 Tough day at the office for the B1 boys today going down to Cammeray. Winning the toss we decided to have a bat and got off to one of our better starts for the year. Mitchy and Bammy looking comfortable at the crease putting on 21 before Bammy fell. One run later Mitchy went the Dicko went shortly after that and from there it was a steady procession. The one shining light and only resistance Jordan Barnett showing the rest of us how its done with a cracking 42, despite that t...hough ... rock and rolled for 108. Defending a small total wasn't going to be easy but Bammy got an early pole and then Toby ripped out one to have them 2 for 19. But that was as close as we looked. We did manage one more wicket ... and what a wicket it was. After a long hiatus Mik Cronin on his return to WPCC took an absolute screamer at first slip. Never seen anything like it. One hand ... low to the ground ... diving ... but looked so easy, effortless and it was like it was in slow motion. It was worth the price of admission itself! But at the end of the day we chalked up a loss ... Cammeray 3 for 109 off 15.1 overs. Spirits remain high though and backing us to bounce back next week. CARN!!!!! See more
11.01.2022 Congratulations to Niladri Shekhar Pal for ticking over the 100 game milestone for the club over the weekend. A fairly subdued game for the Mavericks skipper with figures of 1no and 1/7. Well played mate, all the best for the season
08.01.2022 WPCC 1st grade 5/98 defeated Northbridge 10/97 at Koola stadium today. Well, if I hadn’t have played in the game myself, I would have said that we all need to be drug tested. Same ground, different team, different opponents and different result. The turn around from last week was astonishing. Arees won the toss and sent Northbridge in to bat.... Ariful Islam (2/8 off 8)coming in off the long run off with the wind at his back looked as silken smooth as any international fast bowler would. In fact, someone was quoted as saying it was as if the great Michael Holding had made a come back. Whispering death was back and playing at Koola. The ball was hitting the gloves hard. It was swinging and nipping both ways. The deck was hard on top, but soft under and doing plenty. The batsmen had little clues against this new and little known recruit. Islam with the 1st pole. A fast 1, pitching outside off, with the batsmen shouldering arms and it jagged back and was given out plumb sauce lbw. Something I have never seen, was Islam splitting a stump in half with his slow ball. Cartwheeled in half from a slow ball. Eishhhhh. Nabeel (2/19 off 8)pushed up against the wind. Nabeel was asking questions jagging it both ways. Got the crucial wicket of TC Maddocks, caught behind. NnnnNcheckya. Banna (3/10 off 8)was first change and got a wicket from his first ball. A real loosener, but so often the case with a change of bowler. Enter spin. Left armer off spin Farooq (2/25 off 7). Bowling into the wind and had plenty of tweak on it. Bowled in good areas. Cleary a strong recruit to the club and will get plenty of wickets for the season. Captain Rauf (2/29 off 7.4) injected himself into the attack and was also hard to get away. After drinks Northbridge were 4/30 off 20. All out off the last over for 97. WPCC began their innings slowly but sagely. Rahman and Porag showed good intention and rock solid defence and it wasn’t long before the boundaries were flowing. Rahman caught behind for 2, but put on a promising opening stand of 12. Porag was joined by Rauf and together they plundered the bowlers and put on quick fire runs to take the total to 38 before Rauf fell for 10 to take us to 2 /38. Faroq joined Porag and they continued on with the batting display. Forooq treating the bowlers with contempt playing a reverse sweep to just inside the longest boundary for shot of the day. Rahman threw away his wicket at the end with a walk down the pitch to the opening bowler and dismissed caught behind for his first 50 with his new club, but the game was all over. Sahog the next to come in and noodled a few around to get us the 6 points. Well done WPCC 1st grade. Some wonderful new players and recruits for the club today. A massive turn around and Good signs for the season ahead.
03.01.2022 B1 boys today had a ... well maybe a win. Scorebook forensic going well into the evening. Losing the toss Chatty West sent us in to bat. Bammy and Mitch opening up again got us off to solid start of 28 when Mitch fell for 12. Then in a rarity ... a 2nd wicket partnership! A guest appearance today from Dreggs royalty Dinny Evans combining with Bammy, old school Dreggs connection for a 81 run 2nd wicket stand with Dinny out for 51. Bammy fell soon after for 40, 3 for 116. Then ...it was another returning legend’s time to shine ... Mik Cronin. Getting some in the middle and got into his groove and caused some carnage with Nihar. An unbroken partnership of 81, Mik 51* Nihar 28* ... 3 for 197 the total. The chase ... Chatty West off to a solid start putting on 42 for the first wicket in 9 overs. The skipper then turned to the leg spin of Matt Turvey to break the opening stand and it worked. Wicket maiden in his first over. Next over the skipper come on grabbing 2/1 oppo 3 for 43. Soon it was 5 for 59 and we were rolling. But as we have done to them they started to do to us. 55 run 6th wicket stand was threatening till Jordan broke it. Then Harsh ripped out 2. 8 for 124. Then another twist. The tail wagged and fired. Come down to one over. 2 wickets in hand. 12 needed to win. Skipper with ball in hand. First ball pie ... semi timed ... was looking like 6 but alas no. Turvey ran 1000 metres to snag the catch. 1 wicket 12 runs 5 balls. Next ball single. Number 11 on strike. A Michelle was on offer and selfishness kicked in ... half volley on middle will get the win the Michelle the glory ... BOOM. First ball faced the number 11 smokes it. 5 runs to win 3 balls. Dot ball. Two. Last ball 3 to win. Straight to Mitchy at long on. Fires it to the bowler. Bails off ... 1 run win ... until a scorebook reconciliation ... scores are tied. No no no no. But in breaking news. Forensic completed and after some communications with the Chatty West skipper ... winner winner chicken dinner. CARN!!!!! See more
03.01.2022 Good start for 3rd grade at northbridge. Batting first we made 5/250 off the 35.
03.01.2022 A1 chaps notch up their first win against last year's premiers Killara United. After winning the toss we sent Killara United in. Tight bowling from stats 0/25(7) and Anand got the early breakthrough and kept things tight. A couple of quick wickets before drinks and Killara were 3/63(18). A 51 run partnership was broken by Vamsi 1/30(7) and regular wickets kept Killara 8/151(35). Adz 2/35(7), skip 2/29(7) and Anand with his best figures ever for the chaps with 3/24(7). The... chase started well 0/23(4) but then 2 wickets in 2 balls saw a stutter. Recovering to 3/54 at drinks it was pretty even. 4/67, 5/70 then 6/70 soon became 7/82. Needing 8 an over Adz was the key looking a treat. A 43 run partnership with the skip steadied the ship but when he fell we still needed 27 with 2 wickets in hand. Adz kept going but when he fell for 40, 10 runs were still needed at a run a ball. Vamsi and stats steering the ship home and winning with 4 balls to spare. A great win to be part of. Well done MOM Adz
01.01.2022 Close but no cigar for the B grade boys today in a spirited effort against a top shelf Gypos out fot. Winning the toss the skipper buckled to peer pressure and decided to have a bat. The innings couldn’t quite get momentum early. Kingsley filling in threatened to get going ... new comer Anthony was set for a ton until got hosed by his partner (cough Bammy). Things were teetering a little at 5-67 but Nihar (51) and the skipper (30) put on 67 to get things rolling but losing 3 ...for 5 threatened to derail us. Enter Andy Dickinson blazing 14 with sweet boundaries and sharp running between the wickets to put on 25 with new comer Sammy Yim. Eventually 9-166. It gave us hope and the boys were buoyed by Andy’s effort. And that momentum continued first ball with Toby taking middle peg. Gypos 1-0. Toby was outstanding bowling 7 straight with 2-21. Well supported by Bammy 2-16 and when Reecey grabbed one Gypos reeling at 5-49. It all went tits up from there though. A dropped catch and then next time round old mate took 34 off the over. He plundered us for 76* in putting on 111 for the 6th wicket. Kingsley was the only one to trouble him with a great spell but didn’t get the rewards he deserved. Mikey Wilkinson a quick 2 for and 1 for Jordan almost gave us a sniff, but in the end 2 Wickets shy of victory. Again Andy what an effort, running catch and inspiration in the field on the hottest day of the year. What a legend. All round gutsy whole hearted effort boys to be proud of and plenty of positives despite the loss. CARN!!! See more
