25.01.2022 Manshant Kaur and Jo Roberts warmly invite you to join them as they facilitate this circle of Sacred Sound. All are welcome here. This is a ‘come as you are’ space, and there is no previous singing experience required. Have you ever noticed the way that a song or a tone of voice can stir deep emotion, or instantly transport you back in time through memory? Leave you feeling elated, or crying tears you didn’t know you needed to release?... Heart Song is an invitation to journey into the heart space via sound. Across all cultures and times people have been coming together to sing. It is a part of being human. Singing helps us connect with one another, connect with the world and connect with ourselves. It feels good to sing. Sound and vibration can bypass our thought processes, and connect us more directly with our inner world. This deeper connection can guide us towards greater acceptance, understanding and healing.

It is a biennial prize for the best poems on ...a personal, social or political subject concerning Indigenous Australians or Torres Strait Islanders. L.I.P.P. looks to the power of poetry and art to generate constructive dialogue between all Australians regardless of race. The only criteria for entry is that all submissions be respectful and sensitive to the integrity of Indigenous (or Torres Strait Islander) people and culture. 20.01.2022 Friday saw the launch of the 2020 National Contemporary Jewellery Awards at the @Griffith Regional Art Gallery. Congratulations to the winner Halie Rubenis with 'White Bread'. Their necklace repurposed discarded bread, compressing and hand cutting hundreds of bread clip shaped pieces. "This piece is a living cultural artifact and a symbol of legacy and privilege. It is made from slices of generic white bread, and its plastic wrapper, found in a dumpster at the back of a supermarket on the island of Tasmania, Australia. What a waste. Food is thrown out at alarming rates. But this work is not about that exactlyit is a reference to a generation of people that accept this as the norm because that is the world that was passed to them. It is opulent. It is wasteful."
19.01.2022 Congratulations to local writer Sarah Tiffen Writing Services for being equal first place winner of the #loverural poetry competition with her poem Rural Lockdown!

14.01.2022 Launch of Life on the Sandhills: this morning from 10.30am at the Narrandera Library. From 1912 until the 1970s, up to 50 first nation families lived on the Sandhills, just outside of Narrandera near ‘Town Beach’ or ‘Koori Beach’ on the Murrumbidgee river. Artists Michael Lyons Snr, Owen Lyons, Dexter Briggs and Andrea Briggs have created three new artworks exploring their memories of the Sandhills. These artworks will be on permanent display at the Narrandera Shire Library, for all community members to enjoy. , , . :
13.01.2022 Lillardia Briggs-Houston joined Western Riverina Arts in May 2019 with a wealth of knowledge and a varied professional background all the while managing her creative endeavours as a textile artist, printmaker and designer for her ethical and sustainable label Ngarru Miimi. Lillardia took time off at the start of 2020 to focus on her new family and her Narrandera based art and design practice. Some of Lillardia's achiev...ements during this year include being a finalist in the 'Wearable Art and Cultural Adornment' and the 'Textile Design' categories for the National Indigenous Fashion Awards, her label Ngarru Miimi being a recipient of a RAF Grant for a Spring Fashion Parade, her contributions as a panelist for the 'Creative Journeys' conference talks at Artstate Wagga, exhibiting with the Narrandera Walk In Art and her work featuring in Vogue, Marie Claire, Peppermint and Wild magazine. I’m incredibly thankful for my time at Western Riverina Arts. Although I’m stepping down from my role as Projects and Communications officer, I will still be eagerly participating in the nurturing and growth of the arts in Western Riverina - particularly Aboriginal Art and Design. I look forward to working with Western Riverina Arts for future projects and collectively contributing to our thriving regional art scene. Though Lillardia has stepped down from this role with us, we are lucky to have her onboard as she will still continue to work with Western Riverina Arts as special projects arise. We wish her all the best with her future endeavours and eagerly await the next exciting creative projects from her and Ngarru Miimi.
13.01.2022 Tune in to hear about the upcoming Henry V Shakespeare in the Park project.
11.01.2022 ‘Faraway on Ford’, the beautiful bookstore in Ganmain’s old post office, will pop up in Narrandera in time for Christmas. Both stock an excellent range of well-read books for all readers: crime, romance, Australiana, literary, young adult, and children’s novels, as well as books on gardening, cooking, arts and craft. ‘Faraway on Ford’ and its popup sister ‘Faraway on East’ is the creation of Wendy Chamaoun. Originally fro...m Sydney, Wendy is a former librarian with a keen eye for good books. She has embraced the joy of living in the Riverina and meeting new friends over a well-read book. She accepts donations of fiction titles in good condition and always ensures they find a good home. ‘Faraway on Ford’ is open in Ganmain in the old post office (95 Ford St) every week Thursdays-Saturdays 10am-3pm. ‘Faraway on East’ will pop up in Narrandera between Fusion and Close Pharmacy in the Royal Mail Hotel (127 East St), on Fridays 4pm-8pm and Saturdays 9am-1pm, from 28 November to 19 December.

08.01.2022 : Hello! My name is Camille Whitehead (surprisingly no relation to Aanya - we’ve checked ). I’ve been covering the mat. leave role of Projects & Communications Officer at Western Riverina Arts during the crazy year that has been 2020, and with Lillardia stepping down to work on her amazing label Ngarru Miimi, I am pleased to accept the permanent role going forward. At the end of 2019 I JUMPED at the opportunity to work within the regional arts sector..., returning to the Riverina to be a part of WRA after several years of living in Brisbane. I have a university degree in graphic design with a background in print, social media management and photography. You will often see me at events with camera at the ready! I have loved bringing my creativity and varied skills into this role, and especially meeting the amazing people of the Western Riverina, who form a community unlike any other I’ve seen. When I’m not in my part-time role with WRA, you can find me working with Leeton Shire’s Events and Culture team at the Leeton Museum and Gallery, and occasionally working at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery. If you see me around come say hi, or send a socially distanced communication via [email protected] or 0455 217 671. I look forward to continuing to work with you all in 2021! : .
