15.01.2022 Beware of paralysis ticks ! We have seen a few pets with paralysis ticks recently. Tick paralysis is caused by a neurotoxin produced in the salivary gland of female ticks. The toxin is released into the animals bloodstream while the tick is attached and feeding. It produces ascending paralysis that begins with the hind legs and spreads to the forelegs, chest & larynx. Tick paralysis can be fatal if it involves the diaphragm or if your pet vomits & inhales the vomit due to laryngeal paralysis. There are several very effective products available to prevent and kill ticks. If you live near bushland or take your dogs/cats into bush you should be using a tick preventative
