We include two skills camps each term as part of our fees for these development programs. No need to register. Just come along and have some fun while you work on your skills with our development coaches. These camps reinforce the skills we are coaching before your game each week. 20.01.2022 Update from the Stadium With the announcement last night of St Pius school closing due to a Year 9 student testing positive to Coronavirus, we want to assure you that this person has not been to Newcastle Basketball Stadium at any time during the last 14 days. Close contacts of the student have been instructed to isolate and get tested, which means all other students are welcome in our stadium at no increased risk to the community. Advice from NSW Public Health today is ...that the players/coach/manager directly part of the U15 boys Newcastle Jets team on the 1st of August and anyone deemed close contact will be notified and are required to self-isolate. All other students and parents from St Pius are deemed casual contacts. Casual contacts are not required to self-isolate in their homes unless they develop symptoms - if you, a family member or a close contact does start displaying any symptoms Newcastle Basketball urge our members to get tested as a precaution. Until directed otherwise by the NSW Government, Newcastle Basketball will remain open and all competitions, programs and trainings will continue as planned. We would like to remind all members of the entry requirements into the stadium which can be found on Newcastle Basketball’s website. All Friday games are postponed, and the stadium will provide an update after the weekend on next week’s games. They would like to stress that they have not been notified of any members testing positive to Coronavirus but are being proactive to keep our basketball community safe. ... 15.01.2022 Another West Junior heads south Congratulations to West Junior Evan Kilminster. Basketball Australia announced today on behalf of the organisation’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) that Evan will join the CoE program at the Australia Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra. Whilst he’ll be missed by our mighty West Eagles, we look forward to seeing him achieve great things on the national stage. Evan is pictured here with a very proud Coach Eric Harvey.

14.01.2022 SIREN SOUNDS FOR COACH HARVEY It is with great sadness and the utmost of respect, that we announce that the end of the season this week also saw the end of an era for West Basketball Life Member, Former Head Coach and Club Coach Eric Harvey who is retiring from coaching. Eric has had an illustrious coaching career of 50 years, spanning all levels of the game from club basketball through to National Championships.... The impact on the many, many players and coaches that Eric has had is immeasurable. He joined us at West when times were tough and has been instrumental in the growth of our club over recent years. West would like to create a visual momento of Coach Harvey’s career and are calling on our wider basketball community for assistance. 12.01.2022 SHOUT-OUT TO ALL OUR COACHES Sending a big cup of gratitude to all of our coaches who have played an important role in getting a record number of teams on the court this year. Thank you for all of your efforts Fourteen of those coaches are West junior players who are coming through our program and decided to volunteer their time and give back to the club by coaching our younger teams (some of them pictured below). 03.01.2022 Hi West Families, A few reminders for this week: Games are going ahead as scheduled, please advise your coach early if you are unable to play.... This weekend we have our U16 and U19 training session on Sunday from 4.00-5.30pm at the stadium. It is preferred that players are dropped at the door and collected at the end of the session, however one parent per junior player is permitted if required all adults must sign in using the QR code (please download a QR reader on your phone if you have had any problems signing into the stadium using your phone camera). Our final session for all age groups will be on Sunday 30th August as previously communicated. Hoodies: we are regularly in touch with our local company we have ordered through, who are extremely apologetic for the delays. They have advised this week that it is likely to be roughly three more weeks until their suppliers are able to get the hoodies to us due to further Covid affected delays with getting materials in to complete the order. Please be assured that we are trying to do everything we can to get these hoodies to you as soon as possible, but as with most things in 2020 this situation is out of our control and we are trying to be as patient as possible. We can’t wait to see the hoodies worn around the stadium, and will do our best to get them to you as soon as we can we promise! 02.01.2022 Under 8s and Under 10s (Term 4) starts soon! If you are interested in registering for the Under 8s (Saturdays) or Under 10s (Thursdays) competition, please click on the link to register or come along to Muster Day this Thursday 4.30-5.30pm at the stadium. https://membership.sportstg.com/regoform.cgi... We are busily working on finalising teams, and will be in touch with all registered players prior to their first game. Under 8s commence games this Saturday (17th Oct) and Under 10s commence next week on Thursday (22nd Oct).

01.01.2022 WELL DONE WEST TEAMS Yesterday saw the wrap-up of the season for some of our junior teams, and what a way to finish! Six grand final winners: ... 12G1 West Flames, 12B1 West Knights, 14B1 West Vipers, 16G1 West Lynx, 19G1 West Storm, 19B3 West Cardinals, and runners up 19B1 West Eagles. A large number of teams have progressed through to Friday grand finals, and many others played outstandingly in their semi-finals doing the club proud! Well done to ALL teams, feel free to share/tag/like the photos of the teams who have completed their season and if your team photo is missing, send it in so we can share it with the west community.
