25.01.2022 Please keep an eye out for this cheeky frogmouth juvenile for the next few days. Re-released back into his territory last night between Bywong St, Vera St, Elizabeth St and Toowong Creek. He/she was rescued by Sandra Hilkes and her family after slipping on a fence and getting caught by the neck between the fence panels. Luckily only minor injuries. He has been in care for a few weeks and SHOULD be fine but please be on the lookout for him just in case he gets hassled by the smaller birds.

22.01.2022 SCHOOLS: Marist College Ashgrove slammed this year's CyberTaipan cyber security competition, taking out sixth, 10th and 11th places. They have now been invited to compete in the national finals in October. The comp requires students to examine Windows and Linux servers and Windows 10 images to find vulnerabilities within the systems. It's Marist's second time in the comp and it was part of the pilot in 2018/2019. All its three teams made it to the national final last year.

21.01.2022 SCHOOLS: Well done Stuartholme, which has been named one of Australia's most innovative schools in the Australian Educator Awards. The Toowong school was chosen for its unique approach to the challenge of teaching during lockdown. It created STU@HOME a model of learning at home which fostered learning and also the school's small, caring, connected village philosophy. It even ran workshops with parents to develop their knowledge.

18.01.2022 ELECTION 2020: If you get one of these in the mail, just remember it's not from the Electoral Commission. Every election _ council, state, or federal _ the LNP and ALP send these out with their postal address on the back, not the ECQ's address. Then they collect your data. These have been showing up around Indro in the past few days. Just sayin'.
18.01.2022 The Greens’ Michael Berkman, LNP’s Lauren Day and Labor Palani Thevar went to battle in the seat of Maiwar. Here’s who came out on top and what it means for inner-west locals.

16.01.2022 ELECTION 2020: You know polling day is drawing near when the dirty tricks start. Check out this sign, supposedly authorised by rightwing lobby group Advance Australia, which has strong LNP links. It's outside Toowong Village shops, not coincidentally quite near the Atira highrise. For the record, it is NOT Greens policy to defund the police. I did, however, notice a banner with a similar sentiment hanging off the side of Greens Councillor jonathan Sri's houseboat on Norman Creek a few weeks back. Anyone want to take a bet on when the first election signs will spontaneously combust?

16.01.2022 PLEASE HELP: From today, shoppers in Bellbowrie, Kenmore and The Gap can help support the 5000 children with life-limiting conditions who use Hummingbird House as part of Coles fundraising appeal for the childrens hospice. Until October 13, customers can buy $2 donation cards featuring colourful artwork by children and families who have been guests of Hummingbird House. COVID-19 has been a heavy burden for families with children that have life-limiting conditions, with many unable to leave their homes due to the risks associated with living with an immunocompromised child. For many, Hummingbird House has been one of the few safe spaces to visit since the start of the pandemic.

15.01.2022 PEOPLE POWER: It's a small victory, but the tenacious Concerned Ashgrove Residents' Group has forced Council to prove controversial new lights at the Jeeps/Valley HQ in Yoku Rd comply with the outdoor lighting code in City Plan. An independent engineer will be on site tonight to test the powerful lights, which residents say shine into their homes. It comes after a 15 month battle involving the Office of Disputes Commissioner, which investigates complaints made against Council. We will let you know what the tests conclude.

12.01.2022 STATE ELECTION: Kate Jones' departure must have been known a fair way in advance of this week's announcement, judging by the fact election signs for her replacement, Jonty Bush, were already being waved around on Waterworks Rd today. For those of you who don't know your new Labor candidate for Cooper, Ms Bush is a former Young Australian of the Year who has worked for homicide support groups and publicised the One Punch Can Kill campaign after the murders of her sister and fa...ther. She unsuccessfully ran for Labor in Enoggera at the March Council election. Ms Jones built up a hefty 21 per cent two-party preferred margin at the 2016 election, but was only five per cent ahead of the LNP on first preferences, so the result this time could be interesting folks. For what it's worth, former Labor Speaker and renowned number cruncher, John Mickel, reckons Bush will get over the line. We'll see if he is right on October 31. See more

11.01.2022 ROADS: St Lucia locals are fed up with Brisbane St being used as a speedway. Councillor James Mackay says help is on its way, with engineers recently inspecting the road. A SAM (variable speed) sign and a stop sign (replacing the current giveway sign) are coming. Council will then investigate traffic calming but Cr Mackay says, if adopted, it must also go in at Sisley and Mitre streets so they don't become the next speedway. Dropping the speed limit from 50kmh to 40kmh is a year-long process, so hopefully these measures will work.

07.01.2022 ELECTION 2020: Looks like being a two-horse race in the Indooroopilly-based seat of Maiwar at the Oct 31 election. If you believe a Greens SMS/phone poll released this morning, Michael Berkman will edge out Lauren Day. Labor's horse would have to be pretty long odds in this race. But.... the Greens are usually over-represented in polls, and we all know polls haven't exactly been accurate in recent times. And the LNP's Lauren Day has thrown everything at her campaign. It could well be a nailbiter.

02.01.2022 ELECTION 2020: Lots of westside projects among Greens MP Michael Berkman's worthy but eye-wateringly expensive public transport policy, announced on Thursday. They include a new high frequency bus between Bardon and Toowong, more 375 and 475 buses, and additional school buses to connect Fig Tree Pocket and Indooroopilly. Our plan to build safe, separate bike lanes along stretches like Sylvan Rd will take pressure off our congested roads and improve quality of life,'' Mr Berk...man said. "Weve also committed to bring forward funding for walking and cycling green bridges from St Lucia to West End and Toowong to West End, where Im campaigning for the landing site on Coronation Drive to be turned into public green space. In 2019 Brisbane City Council committed to fund these bridges proposed by the Greens, but only the Kangaroo Point-CBD and Breakfast Creek green bridges have a timeline for completion by 2023, while the Toowong/St Lucia bridges arent promised for a decade.
