09.01.2022 The annual Research Creation Showcase is an HCA sponsored event that includes both exhibition and oral presentations of both traditional and practice-led research by the School’s staff and HDRs. On the last day of Research Week, Friday, 23 October this year’s version embraced the online space with its exhibition https://student.hca.westernsydney.edu.au//researchcreatio/ and a day of lectures, panels and lightning talks. Luke Hodge, a Dunghutti man and HCA Screen Media stu...dent, presented the Acknowledgement of Country. The Keynote for the day was offered by Justin Morrissey, the Creative Industries Cluster Manager, Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise on social innovation in the Creative Industries. Justin is also a WSU Master of Creative Industries graduate and recent Churchill grant winner. The afternoon session included Panels on Auto/ethnography and Lightning Talks from HCA staff in a show and tell about recent research and creative practice. The day concluded with an industry panel, 'Radical Accessibility', featuring Professor James Arvanitakis, Dr Debra Keenahan and Katrina Sandbach, in collaboration with Urban Theatre Projects and Accessible Arts. We were very fortunate to have two closed captioners and two Auslan interpreters on the panel to make our event more accessible to the general public. These presentations were supplemented over lunch with concerts, a seminar, and the Writing and Society Research Centre poetry lounge. The move to Zoom-based interaction and presentation did not dent the enthusiasm or numbers with participation remaining constant across the day. Thanks to all staff, students, industry partners and community members who attended and supported our 2020 Research Creation Showcase.
