16.01.2022 Do you find South Australian history fascinating? Have you ever wanted to learn about some of the most interesting, notorious, captivating or unfortunate people of our past? The Friends of West Terrace Cemetery volunteer program is designed to help conserve the historic value of the cemetery, to engage the broader community and to build awareness of the significance of the State Heritage Listed cemetery. The program allows you to be involved in a range of functions at the cemetery, including tour guiding, assisting with events, hosting education and special interest groups as well as undertaking research activities. If you would like to apply, simply complete our Volunteer application form using the below link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WSNB3PY

15.01.2022 Today is International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of women everywhere. South Australia has produced many exceptional women who have excelled in their chosen field and campaigned tirelessly for change. We feature many of these remarkable women in our guided tours at West Terrace Cemetery and are proud to introduce you to one of these women today. Fanny Ware assumed management of the Exchange Hotel in Hindley Street in 1871 following the death of her hus...band. At the time, women in management were unheard of (especially in hotels), however under her custodianship the Exchange became one of the most popular hotels in the State. It was always well conducted and had an excellent reputation for good food and the best service. The Women's Suffrage Movement gave 'propertied' women the right to vote in 1861. By the time of her passing in 1898, at the age of 69, Mrs Ware had become a high-profile and greatly respected part of Adelaide Society. See more
