24.01.2022 Dr Hayley’s Heat Stroke Hints! With the extreme heat that we have been experiencing lately it not just us humans who are feeling it. Our four-legged friends are prone to developing heat stroke, which can be a life-threatening condition. It is important to recognise the signs of heat stroke early, which can include: Excessive panting Drooling Vomiting or diarrhoea... Breathing difficulty Wobbliness or collapse Muscle tremors or seizures Brown or red discoloured urine If your pet displays any of these above signs, move your pet into a cooler area and contact your veterinarian immediately. You can spray your pet with cool water or use fans or wet towels to cool them down slowly. Do not use ice-cold water or put them in the swimming pool as this can make it worse. To prevent heat stroke, remember to always have clean water available for your pet at all times and ensure they have access to a shady and well-ventilated area. Avoid exercising your pet in in the hottest part of the day and never walk them on hot asphalt or concrete surfaces or leave them unattended in a car. See more
