25.01.2022 Some nasty conditions met the players last Saturday cold and heavy winds, the odd shower but it was nowhere near enough (?) to deter 22 of our most dedicated players. Well, maybe except Pat Cumming - who was quite deterred, but still got the job done! The ladies draw saw Sarah Black and Judy Jones each record undefeated days on their 34 handicaps both good for a haul of 294 pts. Both players’ matches added up to an exact same 9 pt handicap advantage over-all, and each...Continue reading

Contact any of the following organisers to enter: Steve Pressler 0458 429 485 Andrew Bartlett 0422 828 399 Therese MacFarlane 0418 653 471 Peter Wood 0429 427 565 Nicole Wood 0407 279 636
23.01.2022 Another great day of tennis on Saturday perfect weather with every player winning at least 12 games for the day, and in fact, 87% of players won at least 16 games. Trevor Watkins (MVP), Una Jenkins and Robyn Armitage (MVP) were undefeated, while Brett Green’s 22 games was the only other score above 21 games. Next week is the Monthly Merlot the final opportunity to qualify for the big finale in October. Some interesting form lines coming into this with Trevor Watkins and R...obyn Armitage the MVP’s from last Saturday maybe they’ve peaked a week early? Great to see Garry (Super) Boal ice 2nd place in a top day, and Una Jenkins return to top form with a 300+ pt day for 2nd in the ladies as well. 267 pts was the average score in the mens, and those that achieved anywhere near that are shown in order below: (Name, Handicap, Handicap Points, Games won) ** MVP TREVOR WATKINS 31 309 24 GARRY BOAL 26 287 19 BRETT GREEN 22 285 22 ANDREW BARTLETT 41 285 21 ANDREW JOB 33 284 21 SCOTT CUMMING 33 279 19 JOSH NORTHFIELD 17 276 18 ANDREW BONEHAM 42 271 20 LUKE DOECKE 24 268 19 STUART LUELF 34 263 14 MICHAEL MITTON 39 263 20 272 pts was the average score in the ladies, and those that achieved near that are shown in order below: (Name, Handicap, Handicap Points, Games won) ** MVP ROBYN ARMITAGE 35 325 24 DIANE PHELPS 37 313 23 UNA JENKINS 24 304 24 EMILY ROOTES 17 288 20 NICOLE WOOD 33 278 19 SARAH BLACK 34 276 19 JAYNE TAYLOR 26 271 20 MICHELLE JOB 16 266 17 TRACY GRIMSHAW 32 261 16 ALICE VAN DER SPEK 23 259 16 Haworth’s Muscat’s won the day to (almost) reclaim 2nd place over Pressler’s Cab Sav’s who were (less than their best) dismal for third placing and in the process brought Jobie’s Pinot Grigio’s (2nd this week) back into the mix and within a strike of stealing an overall 3rd seeding from them. Judy’s crew of Sav Blanc’s were 3rd on the day, but remain the cellar dwellars, while Marilyn’s Prosseco’s seem to be limping home resting on their laurels, claiming 2nd last to be in danger of losing the top seed. The overall scores read: Prosecco’s 99, Cab Sav’s 91,Muscat’s 89, Pinot Grigio’s 79, and Sav Blanc’s 64. Players are gearing up for Club Championships on the 26th and 27th of September, which is generously sponsored by the SWSCU Ltd. Please start organising your partners soon - this week! (or just nominate yourself and we’ll get you a partner, or you can play singles as well). Grades will be (in the area of) sub-66 combined handicap (sub-34 for singles) for Specials, and above that for Opens. This could be adjusted according to entries as well. Anyone keen to have a hit with us just contact anyone mentioned in the story above and they’ll set you on the right path. Or, contact Therese MacFarlane on 0418 653 471 or Alan McGlynn 0427 415 460 or Andrew Bartlett 0422 828 399. Get your racquet on people and get amongst the fun!
22.01.2022 Tennis is ON TODAY!! There is a chance of a minor shower at noon, but unless this is 4mm plus it won't affect play at 1pm. Let's ride it out (if it happens) and get on the courts. Bring a change of shirt just in case, but there's a great draw awaiting both sides!
22.01.2022 Perfect weather met the all players lining up for their shot at the Monthly Merlot on Saturday. The ladies draw was brilliantly contested with 70% of the field winning 20 games or more, and all others within just a few more of that. Robyn Armitage wanted a recount after being told her 20 games was only good enough for 9th place!? Climbing through the pack and emerging the winner was Jayne Taylor with 21 games and 311 points. Jayne actually lost 3 sets for the day, but she sc...Continue reading
22.01.2022 Intertown tennis round 2 was held in West Wyalong last weekend with 23 local players providing great tennis for their counterparts from Forbes, Grenfell & Temora. Matches are played according to handicap, such that players are always (fairly) equally tested with a variety of partners and opposition over 6 sets. Extra care was taken to ensure high standards of hygiene and social distance were maintained throughout the day. It was good news for the West Wyalong crew as their e...Continue reading
18.01.2022 A fantastic news article about Peter & Ted Wood.
17.01.2022 Tennis is ON today - if you're in the draw, please turn up as usual. Mixed round is first up, so please do your best to be on-time! Weather forecast is very promising for play, although we may get 1/2 mm sometime during afternoon. This amount won't affect the courts badly - unless we happen to get 2-4mm...... So, let's have a crack! Bring your beanies and overcoats!
15.01.2022 The Grand Merlot Season Finale` was held last Saturday after the washout from the prior weekend. Players were both lucky and unlucky as we dodged most of the storms again, but enough tennis was played to finalise the season in fine style. Qualifying players in the ladies had a red hot go, with 5 of the 6 qualifiers producing their best tennis to keep their chances high. Rising through the pack was one of our most experienced players, Marilyn McClintock (basking in the prev...Continue reading
14.01.2022 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS: As always seems the case, Club Championships brought some interesting weather for the players to contend with. Cold and breezy conditions met the players for Saturday singles and doubles. Mens singles were first up with Andrew Job overcoming Jay Taylor 7-5; 6-3 and Trevor Watkins taking out Stuart Luelf 6-4; 1-6; 6-3....Continue reading
13.01.2022 Great to see Phil & Therese take out the respective MVP's last weekend! Many thanks to Ros Ode for her brilliant organisation of the US Open theme. Scores shown are the "top half", plus a couple of "almosts". Those that didn't make the list have had their names with-held for the sake of modesty.... Although..... Howard was part of it though (again?), and Sally (again?), plus a rare pair by the last name, Wood (though it wasn't a Merlot weekend, so that's understandable!) Player/ Handicap/ Points/ Games won PHIL CATLIN 24 317 23 TREVOR WATKINS 31 300 24 JAMES LONG 38 298 22 MICHAEL MITTON 39 297 22 NATHAN DENNIS 21 292 25 JOSH NORTHFIELD 17 282 20 MAL MANGO 27 274 20 JOCK WEIR 21 270 16 ANDREW BARTLETT 41 268 18 CHRIS HAWORTH 44 267 20 HAYLEY BREUST 34 260 16 BRETT GREEN 21 260 17 JAY TAYLOR 33 260 19 ANDREW BONEHAM 42 259 17 Player/ Handicap/ Points/ Games won THERESE MACFARLANE 30 311 22 TRAYC CUMMING 40 309 24 DIANE PHELPS 37 300 22 AMANDA HAWORTH 27 291 20 ROBYN ARMITAGE 35 282 19 BELINDA HAWORTH 20 281 21 JUDY JONES 34 275 22 MARILYN McCLINTOCK 28 271 16 PARIS TAYLOR 24 266 14 UNA JENKINS 24 265 17 PAT CUMMING 34 262 18 ANIKA DENNIS 23 256 17
13.01.2022 It was a day for our experienced players to shine through last Saturday, as Jock Weir and Ros Ode topped the polls in either section. Both players cracked the 300 pt barrier Jock exactly on 300, and Ros was undefeated for her 309 pts. Also undefeated was our ladies runner-up Ana Luelf (24 games for 290 pts). Di Phelps matched Ana on points, but with 20 games won, she lost the count-back but another strong showing from Di who pipped Paris Taylor by just one point for 3rd....Continue reading
09.01.2022 We had a mixed set to start proceedings on Saturday with most of the players trying to remember how this all works. Two of the most notable wins was from Anika and Nathan Dennis over Una Jenkins and Luke Doecke, 6-4 and then a disturbing bagel was produced by Steve Pressler and Tracy Grimshaw and freely handed out to Trevor Watkins and Judy Jones! Marilyn decided she still loves the mixed sets, but has ordered Nicole Wood further up the order in future as Nicole and Brian Mo...Continue reading
09.01.2022 We had a wonderful finish to our November Nightcomp with 31 players making at least one appearance over the 5 weeks. It was great to see some new faces coming along to mix it with the familiar ones. In all, there were 16 men and 15 women play some great tennis over the course of the comp with all players showing at least some moments of brilliance! In the ladies we had Stacey Smith arrive on the final night just in the nick of time to collect the overall winners cheque an...Continue reading
08.01.2022 Another great day of tennis on Saturday in windy conditions with players competing for the final qualifying position for the Grand Merlot. Great to see Cate Hood make her debut with the Club, and going through her sets undefeated to boot! There was some familiarity with the winners list as Nicole Wood won for the third time! Coming off a recent last placing, a 4th last, and a 5th (all in perfect weather) Nic struck at the right time managing the wind brilliantly to record 2...Continue reading
07.01.2022 A couple of team captains led from the front on Saturday with Judy Jones topping the ladies poll and pushing her beloved Sav Blanc’s to their first victory for the season! Judy was imperious with 24 winning games for the only score above 300 for day (male or female). 307 pts did the trick, and her biggest win was with Paris Taylor over Nicole Wood and Jayne Taylor, 6-4. Jude was pretty happy to draw a couple of sets out of the hat with Laura Hume as she too went undefeated - ...Continue reading
06.01.2022 The final Monthly Merlot chance was held last Saturday with 14 men and women vying for a tasty bottle of red and the last qualifying spot for the Grand Merlot this week! We had a mixed doubles round even had two mixed sets for some of the luckier players and it turned out that 25 games for the day provided the winning score in each division! In the ladies, Marilyn McClintock was impressive with 22 games and 296 pts to be in with a big show, and Judy Jones battled hard thr...ough injury for a factored score of 24 games and 310 pts. Both would be big chances on a normal day, but Emerging through the ranks though was Michelle Job with a new racquet in hand and 25 games won for 320 pts to claim her first MVP just at the right time! Michelle conceded 18 games (lots of close tennis) but never lost a set in an amazing performance, her best saved to last with a wonderful win with Tracy Grimshaw against Therese MacFarlane and Alice van der Spek, 6-4. Belinda Haworth was outright 4th on 279 pts and 20 games in a tidy day of tennis, and Sally Russell was 5th on 273 pts from 19 games after enjoying a couple of sets with Peter Wood to start the day. The following players were barely separated for equal 6th Tracy Grimshaw, Alice VDS, Jayne Taylor, Di Phelps, Pat Cumming and Trayc Cumming. Peter Wood was pretty keen to win another bottle of red and went through the draw undefeated to earn a massive 305 pts and look the favourite for the gong. Brett Green though had other ideas and took 25 games and 309 pts to win the Merlot! Brett has improved his tennis considerably over the past two seasons and will soon be solidly mixing it with the middle order. 3rd place was Jay Taylor, just pipping Lindsay Cattle by 2 pts on 289. Another former winner, Michael Mitton was 5th with 285 pts from 20 games, while 6th was Trevor Watkins on 282 and 19 games. Phil Catlin was solid again for 7th, followed by Mal Mango and Steve Pressler in a rare deviation from 2nd. Howard Mango deserves an honourable mention as well, but Bart, Jobie and a couple of Bonehams will have to look forward to better tennis next week! Our final day is this Saturday the Grand Merlot will be decided one lady and one man from the qualifiers during the year. Those eligible are Nicole Wood, Una Jenkins, Marilyn McClintock, Therese MacFarlane, Jayne Taylor and Michelle Job in the ladies, and Peter Wood, Andrew Job, Brett Green, Michael Mitton, Steve Pressler, and Luke Doecke. We will also have our presentations during the afternoon this Saturday, and advise players our short Nightcomp starts next Tuesday at 7pm sharp please contact Therese MacFarlane on 0418 653 471 if you would like to play in any of the next 5 weeks!
