24.01.2022 "A trio of technology leaders in Europe the Austrian Institute of Technology, Fraunhofer ISE in Germany, and Forster Industrietechnik in Switzerland is working to develop a solar canopy system for highways in order to tap into the vast, under-utilized road network for clean electricity generation." The Solar Power Infrastructure system is also set to reduce noise pollution, which is the second most harmful environmental stressor in Europe, behind air pollution, according ...to the World Health Organization (WHO). The Andrews Gov. plans to repower all the metro trains with renewable energy, which will improve our transport system as well as addressing the issues of the climate crisis. Innovative projects like this and more investment in public transport will help reduce emissions in Victoria and help ensure we stay below our government's legislated goal of 1.5C. Let's build on the momentum and take action: https://www.melbournefoe.org.au/vret_2_action

24.01.2022 Great news! Hobsons Bays Urban Forest Strategy will see the planting of more than 50,000 trees over the next five years. This sets the path to increase the citys tree canopy to 30 per cent by 2040. Melbourne is facing the significant challenges of climate change, population growth and urban heating. Investing more in healthy urban forests will play a critical role in maintaining the health and liveability of Melbourne. Greening our city, investing in better public transpor...t infrastructure like Melbourne Metro 2, and making our streets safer for bikes and pedestrians is the economic recovery we want to see! #GetOnBoard our Community Powered Transport Plan today! >>>https://www.getonboard.org.au/

21.01.2022 Last week on Wednesday 25th of November, we had amazing speakers on the Forum 'Transport to Tackle our Climate Change'. If you missed out, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch

20.01.2022 "In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, cities around the world are rediscovering the value of walkable and bikeable streets. From Oakland, Calif., to Amman, Jordan, cities have restricted driving on certain streets in order to create space for socially distanced physical activity. Other cities, like Bogotá and Berlin, have scrambled to convert car and parking lanes into bike lanes in response to the precipitous drop in public transit ridership." It would be great to have com...munity input into what roads in Melbourne should be adapted in this way! Do you have a road in mind? The pair have worked extensively with councils and community groups to reduce Green House Gas and cooperatively on Australias first national emissions data tool called Snapshot, which is currently in beta testing. This emissions planning tool will bring great attention to traffic pollution and addressing issues such as the climate crisis. 09.01.2022 Reducing our use of petrol and diesel cars is one of the most effective things we can do to prevent climate change. 09.01.2022 An interesting article on public transport funding ... what do you think? "First, a decent baseline level of services must be guaranteed. Service cuts create huge social costs, but this is inevitable if funding relies heavily on fare revenue. Stable revenues like property taxes and commercial income can support this baseline. As local and regional governments must run balanced budgets, central government support is also an essential stopgap to prevent service cuts." 06.01.2022 Many countries are making green recovery measures a central part of stimulus packages to drive sustainable, inclusive, resilient economic growth and improve well-being in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. However some countries are also implementing measures that risk having a negative environmental impact and locking in unsustainable growth, according to new OECD analysis discussed by member country ministers today.
