23.01.2022 Our second visit from Hillsborough PS for the week were Stage 2 excellent Eco Explorers! They found so many sustainable things anyone can do and are great at conducting experiments. Ask them where to put your solar panels or how to design a cool house. #EZECNSW #LoveWhereYouLearn #NSWEducation

10.01.2022 We often have a whole small school visit us for an excursion in one day but Hillsborough Public School brought the whole school over three days. First visit of the week at Wetlands Environmental Education Centre was Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students on a People and Places Geography and Science adventure. What keen scientist with great questions and beautiful manners. Is the pond healthy? #EZECNSW... #NSWEducation #LoveWhereYouLearn See more

02.01.2022 Lucky last! The teachers and staff from Wetlands Environmental Education Centre had a fabulous day with Hillsborough PS Stage 3 at Pelican Foreshore yesterday conducting a Grime Scene Investigating (GSI). Students performed experiments to understand the natural and human impacts of the area and searched for evidence of micro plastics and grime in the water. The results were excellent. What a beautiful place for an excursion! #LoveWhereYouLearn #EZECNSW #NSWEducation

02.01.2022 National Threatened Species Day is commemorated today to raise awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction. Threatened Species Tetratheca juncea or Black-eyed susan ... Low shrub that grows as a single stem or clumps of stems. Stems can grow up to 1.5 m long, are generally leafless and have a distinctly angular, winged structure. Plants are usually sprawling and can be difficult to detect amongst other vegetation when not flowering. Hanging flowers, with the dark centre give rise to the common name. The flowers face downwards and usually have four petals that range from white to pink to dark purple in colour. The flowers occur singly or in pairs along the stem suspended on a short peduncle (stalk). Flowering generally occurs between July and January. So now is a great time to see them. Grows in sandy, occasionally swampy heath and in dry sclerophyll forest; chiefly in coastal districts from Bulahdelah to Lake Macquarie, also recorded from Port Jackson to Botany Bay from which it is possibly extinct. Impacts on Tetratheca juncea have been known to result from industrial and residential developments, coal mining operations, pipelines, roads, power stations and the associated infrastructure of such developments, agriculture and land clearing. Check them out on an excursion with our EEC! #ThreatenedSpeciesDay #EZECNSW #NSWEducation

01.01.2022 This World Environment Day, 5th of June, it’s Time for Nature and celebrates its 20th anniversary. World Environment Day reminds us to take action to conserve and protect our natural environment. This year we have found a great competition your students might like to be involved in to celebrate World Environment Day and learn about shorebirds. There are prizes and great teaching resources.
