25.01.2022 Proud to be involved in the containment of the Gospers Mountain Fire, crews from Wisemans Ferry worked day and night for many weeks during the biggest campaign many of our firefighters have seen.

23.01.2022 We are so pleased to announce that the Old Northern road is back to normal traffic conditions after the Hazard Reduction over the last couple of days. Thank you all for your patience as we completed the ONR hazard reduction burn.

22.01.2022 The Wisemans Ferry Brigade would like to thank the families and the their children of Walkers Beach for their efforts collecting bottles and cans to raise the $100 donation we recently received from them. The brigade will put these funds to good use. Thank you again to the Walkers Beach community.

22.01.2022 Update - The road is now open and a contraflow is in place. We are currently attending a motor vehicle accident near the Yoothamarra Kiosk. Old Northern Rd is closed in both directions. Please use an alternate route.

12.01.2022 Tomorrow Sunday 4 October is the first High Fire Danger Index for the Greater Sydney region. This means that ALL burn permits are SUSPENDED for tomorrow. The bushfire danger period started on 1 October for the Greater Sydney Region. This means that as well as any previously acquired Council permits for your area, you will now also need an additional permit from your local fire brigade.... Remember: if you see an unattended fire, call 000

12.01.2022 What a happy days this was

11.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Wisemans Ferry Brigade.

11.01.2022 Myth Busters Myth: "A wet winter means less fires in summer..." FACT: Lots of rain means lots of fuel for bush and grass fires. It only takes a few days of hot,... dry and windy weather to cure grass and make it flammable. Make a bush fire survival plan so you know what you will do if there’s a bush or grass fire near you. 09.01.2022 Briefing for the Old Northern HR is underway! Approximately 100 NSWRFS volunteers from the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai, The Hills and Northern Beaches RFS Districts... have taken time off today for a mid-week hazard reduction (HR) at Maroota-Wisemans Ferry from Wednesday to Friday this week. The HR has been 4 years in the planning, and has been postponed multiple times for many reasons including weather conditions and traffic arrangements. Optimum weather conditions will allow an opportunity for crews to undertake a low and slow controlled burn in the area. Thank you to the community for your patience and understanding! Please be aware that: Firefighting crews and vehicles will be operating in and around the area, including on roads. There will be changed traffic conditions in the area throughout the day. Visibility and air quality will be affected by smoke. Trees may continue to fall after the burn and that the area may be unsafe. Walking tracks in the area will remain closed until further notice to allow for crews to ensure the safety of the area for residents and community. Please exercise extra caution throughout the day. Please remember to only call 000 if you see a fire without any firefighting crews about. Did you know that you can find out information about planned hazard reduction burns at the NSW Rural Fire Service website? Visit https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informati/hazard-reductions for more information.

08.01.2022 To the residents of Wisemans Ferry and it’s surrounds. The long awaited ONR Hazard Reduction will commence on the 9th of September through until the 11th of September. The Wisemans Ferry brigade in conjunction with the Hornsby fire control centre have worked long and hard over many many years now to get this Hazard reduction done. Let’s pray the weather let’s this hazard reduction go ahead.

06.01.2022 Did you know that properties that were saved during the 2019/2020 bushfire season were saved due to local knowledge that was previously shared with RFS teams? As Wisemans Ferry RFS only have three trucks to cover this large geographic area, out of area fire brigades attend to assist us during a major fire situation and so don’t have the same local knowledge. For this reason, the Community Engagement team has developed a questionnaire that we will be coming to you by letterbox... drop. The questionnaire requests information about your property that can be shared with other brigades in an emergency to enable them to gain the knowledge required to quickly protect your assets. For all RFS teams trying to protect your assets during a fire, just knowing where your water supply is; whether you have firefighting equipment at the ready; or if you have hazardous materials stored on your property makes a huge difference. If you don’t receive the questionnaire in the mail by 7th September please email [email protected] and we will forward a copy to you. Please return the questionnaire to the above email address or drop off into the box near the front door of the fire station by 12th September. Please note that the information you provide will only ever be used by RFS teams while trying to save your property. For residents wanting to conduct pile burns now need to go online at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or phone Fire Control Central well before lighting up. Current council permit requirements remain unchanged. Margaret Cavanagh Assistant Community Engagement Officer

05.01.2022 Stunning view from the Old Northern Rd Hazard Reduction today featuring the much appreciated air support! Thanks for all your help team.

04.01.2022 #12monthsago #201920FireSeason #GospersMountain These images were captured 12 months ago today as the Gospers Mountain Fire came closer to our community. In the morning a community meeting was held in Wisemans Ferry Park. ... The afternoon and evening saw hundreds of fire fighters and many trucks gather for their 4th night shift of many. Crews worked through the night to put containment lines in along Bicentenary Rd and St Albans which would later protect properties when the fire arrived.

04.01.2022 Good morning a friendly reminder to Wisemans Ferry residents and those who live nearby. The long awaited ONR Hazard Reduction is scheduled for Wednesday the 16th to Friday the 17th of September. We ask for your patience during this time and for you to slow down to the revised speed limits and obey road signage. There will also be a stop slow in place for parts of ONR for crew safety. Thank you Wisemans Ferry RFS.

03.01.2022 Sadly with recent rain fall the ONR hazard reduction once again has been postponed. We will advise new dates once we know. We are disappointed with the decision as this hazard reduction is a critical burn for the safety of our area and it’s residents.

03.01.2022 Thank you to all residents of Wisemans Ferry, Hills & Hornsby Council areas for returning the questionnaire delivered to your letterboxes at the beginning of the month, it was fantastic to receive them. For those who have not returned them yet, please consider doing so as soon as you can so that the information in this resource will be available to quickly help defend your property in the event of fire impacting. You can deliver you questionnaire by email [email protected] subject ‘community engagement’ or by dropping in the box near the door of the Fire Station in the village.

03.01.2022 This project from the Rural Fire Service should make things a lot simpler for any residents wishing to conduct pile burns. PLEASE NOTE THIS SITE GOES LIVE 3/8/2020 Project Guardian Update... The Burn Notification module will go live on 3 August 2020. It will give the community the ability to lodge burn notifications electronically. Online Burn Notifications Testing has been completed on the Burn Notification module, and it will go live from 3 August 2020. For the community, the online portal will provide a means for members of the community to directly submit burn notifications directly on the NSW RFS website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify. Members of the community will still be able lodge burn notifications over the phone and in person to the NSW RFS. For NSW RFS members, the module provides a single point of truth about burn notifications through the Burn Notification OCA module. NSW RFS staff can submit burn notifications directly into Guardian through the Burn Notification Module, or use on the public portal. Burn Notifications Functionality The implementation of the Burn Notifications Module functionality is to assist staff (and external call centres) in dealing with burn notifications, including: GIS spatial mapping of all records; Records will be available to all users in real time from when they are entered on the system; The system can be searched by names, addresses, or Brigade areas; Excel downloads are easily available; The system will determine if proposed burns require reporting to National Parks and or Forestry Corporation NSW and send emailed notifications; The portal will prevent acceptance of notifications during declared Total Fire Bans; When HQ staff update the system to show that a TOBAN is declared, members of the public who have notified that they are planning to burn will be warned not to proceed. Training videos for using the portal and module, together with FAQs is available on the intranet.
