22.01.2022 There are many coronavirus cases in the Kibera slum with many more undiagnosed, but at this time our very hard working and dedicated staff are safe. They are able to give food parcels to all the children and families they support and for many this is the only food that they receive. We at WFWIA are so grateful to all who have provided food and accommodation through the 'Relief Fund". https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/

22.01.2022 We are proud to be able assist the WkW centre. Thank you to all who have donated. We are very grateful. As conditions continue to deteriorate in Kibera due to the COVID virus we have left the Disaster Fund open for donations. The families of Kibera will need our continuous support. Donations can be made at https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/

18.01.2022 Its wonderful to see the generous donations from the Disaster Fund Appeal being put to use so quickly. Our team in Kibera are working very hard to purchase food, water & sanitary items (which is not easy over there) and getting it to the families who need it desperately. We thank our team over there who are putting themselves at risk to make sure all our families are supported. Donations can be made at https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/

18.01.2022 To support Kiberan children cut off from school, we are now looking to provide the WkW centre with as many basic computers as possible so they may continue accessing education online. "We are very lucky to have some computers. They have come to the rescue of our students. The kids are so excited about this new mode of learning and we all feel so emotional seeing them so happy. It was so emotional watching Geoffrey attend his first online calls. He was received with much exc...itement by the other kids. He was so excited and confused. He had never seen this before. The unfortunate thing is that we are not able to accommodate all our kids because of the limited number of computers" Tax deductible donations are a great way to give your refund a boost while contributing to these families lives! https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/

14.01.2022 The WkW Centre was thrilled to receive some food and detergent donations from The Visa Oshwal Community in Nairobi. This means a extra 52 families from Kibera informal settlement will be able to receive much needed food and supplies. We thank the Visa Oshwal community for there generous support.

10.01.2022 Your response to our Disaster Fund has been wonderful and we are so very grateful. Over the past few days, WFWIA has received more than $25,000, from wonderful Australians, to give food and aid to the people living in the Kibera Slum. The effects of COVID-19 on Families of Kibera Jared, has a family of 11 members who live in a single room house in Kibera slums. He fears that the country lockdown will put his family at a risk of dying from either starvation or the virus itself.... He is a beneficiary of the food packages that have been giving out. Schools have been closed and all his children are at home, and are supposed to stay indoors. Jared’s family can’t afford the basic commodities like food, clean water, and the house has become too small for all eleven members. Food has become very expensive, Jared said. I have a big family, my children, my wife and grandchildren depend on my providence..." I’m so ashamed that I can’t afford the basic commodities like water. The outbreak of this virus has made a 20 litre container of water to rise to Kshs 10 from Kshs 5 in some areas. Our government insist on sanitizing ourselves and washing hands with soap, how are we going to achieve this if we can’t afford water, are we not going to die? Thank you WKW for coming to my aid. At least now we have food. Jared is so afraid that with the congestion in his house, his family is at risk of contracting the virus which will easily wipe away his family. Every cent donated goes to the people of Kibera. We realise it is an uncertain time for us all but if you are able to donate please head to https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/

06.01.2022 Lovely to see some children at the centre.

06.01.2022 We can change lives. "Through the sponsors help this mum has started a little shop and she is so proud of it. I bought vegetables from her today. We are so proud of her." Leonida from the WKW centre in Kibera

05.01.2022 "Wanawake Kwa Wanawake Organization and Kibera families give a special thanks to all who have come to their aid in this difficult time that we are experiencing the global pandemic; the novel coronavirus. The care you have for the families in Kibera is highly acknowledged and sincerely appreciated. We appreciate the material and moral support you have offered, and above all your prayers. These families will always keep you in their hearts. Joyce, a parent of three and a WkW be...neficiary, is among those that have benefited from your support. She is indeed happy and now less worried. As a widow and a sickly woman, she has had a great challenge raising her kids. She has been waking up early in the morning to look for a cleaning job at a nearby estate. Joyce has however not worked for the last three weeks due to COVID-19 related issues. She was stopped from getting into the estate as the owners and the employers fear that people from the slum might infect them with the disease. With no other source of income, WkW Centre becomes the only place where she can get food and other household commodities." With love from Wanawake Kwa Wanawake Kenya See more

04.01.2022 Rest in Peace, Benson We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of our beneficiaries. Benson struggled most of his life with many disabilities. His mother passed away when he was young and his brother and sister took over the 24 hour care he needed all while living in a small room with little to no money. His story is personal, but he suffered so much and yet was so strong in his fight for life and justice. A exact from Memories of Beson written by the Chairman of WFWIA .... "Recently Benson contracted TB and was in hospital very ill. He came home to the same 10 x 10 shack that his mother lived nd died in and was under the care of John. John was finding it increasingly difficult to look after Benson and Sister Kevina assisted. She took Benson to hospital visits, often he could hardly walk and communication was difficult but she never gave up. Leonida and staff provided the family with food and money for water so John could wash Benson, wash his clothes and provide a meal for him. Benson passed away on 29th April. I am not sure how old he wasmaybe 28. Benson was the epitome of the struggles of many of the children of Kibera. He never surrendered, he never gave up until his poor body did. Benson, I am proud to have been your friend. I am proud of you and I am proud of your brother and sister. I am proud of Wanawake kwa Wanawake who never left you, you did not die alone. Rest in peace, dear boy." See more

03.01.2022 As vital as they are in Kibera, masks are actually creating health risks for many of the families as they do not have the funds to purchase enough of them. Families reuse them continuously and, even worse, children have been seen picking up discarded used ones in the slums to reuse. Our staff are sourcing as many homemade ones as possible as these can be rinsed and re-worn but supply is proving difficult. Money from the relief fund is also being directed to the purchase of masks $10.00 buys 5 masks. If you are able to donate funds to help with the cost of this project, it would be greatly appreciated. https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/

02.01.2022 Food packs continue to be handed out and hot lunches are being made everyday to feed orphaned children and those considered at risk. We are so very grateful to the staff at the centre for all they do.

02.01.2022 $15.50 for a month’s foodthat is what it costs to feed a family in Kibera. It has been a massive day at the WKW Centre. 250 packs of food have been delivered and are being distributed to our students and families living in the Kibera Slum. Each pack costs $15.50 AUD and will feed a family for a month. Our team is adding sanitary items, additional soap and offering larger families an extra pack if needed. These families live hand to mouth and most need to do casual work ...to be able to make sure their families have food everyday. The restrictions the government has imposed makes this impossible, so many families are scared their children will die from starvation. We are so proud of our team, they have worked tirelessly putting the children and families of Kibera before there own safety to ensure our families have support. Please if you have the ability to donate, even the cost of one pack, we would be so grateful. Every cent donated goes straight to Kibera. We would like to reach as many people as possible. please share this post. Thank you. All donations can be made at https://womenforwomeninafrica.org.au/donation/
