22.01.2022 Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. Since 1988, this day has been celebrated annually on August 4 and was historically used to celebrate the birthdays of the Stolen Generations - First Nations children who were taken from their families - without ever knowing their birthdays. The theme for this year is We are the Elders of Tomorrow, Hear our Voice. Today is a timely reminder that students are central to everything we do in our Far North Queensland State Schools and an opportunity for us to consider how we support the voices of our young people, who are our future elders.
22.01.2022 Did you know this week is Disability Action Week? 14.01.2022 58 Indigenous students from across eight Far North Queensland schools recently attended the Indigenous Leaders of the Future Cultural Camp held at Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre. Students engaged in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander weaving and dancing as well as a range of team based leadership activities organised by the centre. Students created a collective art piece that represented their culture, identity and personal story. Ciana is a year 5 student from Isabella State School who is a participant in the Indigenous Leaders of the Future (ILF) Program. Ciana is talking about her art piece and what it represents to her.

13.01.2022 Today is Indigenous Literacy Day! One way we can celebrate is through conversational reading - where children are active when reading a book. It is like a conversation, asking the child to do something and not always following the words in a book. For more information about conversational reading, please check out https://3a.education.unimelb.edu.au//3A-Conversational-Rea

07.01.2022 Last Tuesday, six high schools continued to unpack their CoP: ‘Improving Junior Secondary Achievement in Maths and HASS through Engagement and Well Being’. Kia Morton and Jan Carr led engaging and focused sessions that highlighted the research and our region’s Ways of Working to underpin the work forward. After a fabulous lunch, PATALs facilitated meaningful conversations with middle leaders to analyse data using various lenses. Teams then designed an action plan to intentionally collaborate with teachers to improve student outcomes. It was a huge day of learning and teams are meeting again in Week 10 to share practice and reflections.
