17.01.2022 Tickets $5 at http://bit.ly/LPSIWD20 Liverpool Plains Shire Council’s (LPSC) annual International Women’s Day event will be held at the Royal Theatre Quirindi... on Friday 13 March, with doors open at 7pm. Kira-Lea Dargin has been announced as keynote speaker. Kira is a proud Aboriginal woman of the Wiradjuri tribe, a cancer survivor who also lives with Lupus SLE, an athlete, mother of 3 and university student who has played across a range of football codes. International Women's Day 2020 campaign theme is 'Each for Equal'. An equal world is an enabled world. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements, collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world, said LPSC Mayor, Councillor Andrew Hope. Kira-Lea stands as an inspiration to all. Despite her illness she has played across a range of football codes including AFL, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Oz Tag and Gridiron. In 2019 she became the first Indigenous female professional American Football Gridiron Athlete to debut in the USA and the first Australian in history invited to play for Team USA All Stars, he said. "Entry to the event, which includes Zest catered food, is $5 and tickets can be purchased online at http://bit.ly/LPSIWD20. "Further speakers will be announced shortly. This is always a popular event on the Shire calendar, so I encourage those interested to secure their tickets as soon as possible and to join in what will be a memorable evening, Councillor Hope concluded.

12.01.2022 Full details on how you can become involved in Sunny-side up and help support a tourism promotion that will help economic stimulus for our small business commun...ity. The Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is launching Sunny-side up and inviting all Shire residents to join in this COVID19-friendly event. The idea is for residents in the Shire’s towns and villages to plant some sunflowers in their gardens that will allow visitors to follow a ‘sunflower trail’ and admire the sunflower gardens as well as providing them with photo opportunities. To facilitate this event the VIC will provide free sunflower seeds and entry forms to residents between October 12 and 15 which will be available at the following outlets in the Shire’s towns and villages. Newsagency, Quirindi Art and Craft Shop, Quirindi Liverpool Plains Shire Administration Centre Werris Creek Library Currabubula Pub and Café Premer Pub Spring Ridge Public School Caroona General Store Walhallow Public School Blackville Public School Visitor Information Centre, Willow Tree Wallabadah Public School To coordinate and make the event as successful as possible participants will need to plant the seeds between October 12 and 18 so they are all in bloom at the same time. Additionally, the VIC would like participants to share their growing experience by publishing photos and stories on their social media pages and using the hashtag #liverpoolplainssunnysideup. People who don’t use social media are invited to email their photos and stories to [email protected]. The VIC will share the photos and stories on its website and social media pages to encourage more visitors. Sunflowers have long been an emblem of the Liverpool Plains Shire and in recent years have become quite a drawcard for tourists who travel to the Shire specially to see them in bloom. The interest has developed to the point where the LPS VIC provides an alert subscription service for tourists interested in seeing the sunflowers. After several years of drought, the news of an upcoming sunflower crop has potential visitors excited. Local businesses who have been doing it tough through years of drought and then COVID-19 will benefit from visitors coming to see sunflowers and if residents support the Sunny-side up initiative it will add even more to the attraction for visitors and will provide a win-win situation for visitors and local businesses alike.
