25.01.2022 Mildura Regional Development has signed a five-match deal to promote the region as a tourism destination at AFL matches. While visits to Victoria are technicall...y off-limits at the moment due to ongoing quarantine restrictions, CEO Brett Millington said MRD wanted to promote the region in anticipation of the other side of the pandemic. "Particularly for us, it's making sure that when people are ready to travel and its safe to do so again, that Mildura is at the forefront of their minds," he said. "We know that there are $32 billion worth of overseas travel and cruise expenditure that usually occurs every year by Australians so suddenly that's going to be available to spend in our own country over the next six months or thereabouts. "We need to be front and centre in people's minds so we can capture that market." Mr Millington said the banner, which made its AFL debut at last night's clash between the Gold Coast and Essendon at Carrara Stadium, would be shown about two minutes across all quarters in each of the five matches. "Usually this type of coverage would [cost] in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and we've been able to secure a really positive rate in that regard for our region," he said.
