20.01.2022 On Wednesday the 3rd of September the Strathbogie Shire Council took part in Footy Colours Day. While we may not be able to attend a football game, we certainly had some fun, friendly team rivalry. We raised $155 for a the Fight Cancer Foundation to raise much needed money for kids with cancer and to support their return to education.. Check out Leanne, who do you think she barracks for?

18.01.2022 The Strathbogie Shire Tourism team has been looking into the rich and interesting history surrounding the historic Prisoner of War camp site in Graytown, before, during and after its operation. It is amazing how close the camp was to Graytown and the local school. We would love to hear any stories or information that you may have. Together we create a better experience tying together history, experiences and stories about the site. 15.01.2022 The Honeysuckle Creek Walking Track is a great example of community spirit. The Honeysuckle Recreational Environment Project began in 2002, and since then has had an active volunteer group taking on the management, preservation, and development of this Reserve area. Volunteers are planting thousands of native trees, shrubs and grasses in the Reserve. The local primary school and community members are involved in environmental educational activities. An identification brochu...re for birds that occur along the creek is available in Violet Town. Go check out the wonderful work that has been done by locals to create this beautiful walk. 14.01.2022 Did you know? Melville's Lookout is named after Captain (Francis) Melville, who was a notorious goldrush era bushranger. After being transported to Australia at age 15 for housebreaking, he escaped Port Arthur to live with local aborigines for a year.... He came to Victoria in 1851. Within a short time he had formed the Mt Macedon Gang that robbed travelers heading to and from the goldfields through what’s now known as the Heathcote-Graytown National Park. 13.01.2022 How many of our tracks and trails have you completed? Golden Mountain drive takes you deep into the Strathbogie Forest to reach the start point which is 12.7km from the end of the bitumen on Tames Rd, or about 25 minutes drive from Strathbogie. The walk is recommended as a slow ramble towards the peak of Golden Mountain. Walking along old logging tracks you will pass large moss covered granite boulders, Eucalypts including Peppermint Gum and Ti-tree thickets. At the summit ...you will be rewarded with magnificent views to both the east and west. 10.01.2022 When was the last time you took a trip to Ruffy? It’s a pretty special town that offers a range of activities. You can go for scenic drives or walks in the beautiful bush surroundings, admire the rugged granite rock outcrops, or relax beside one of the many creeks meandering through the district all perfect for the artist or photographer.... Go check out the Ruffy Snow Gum Reserve Walking Track this weekend. A circuit of this reserve takes you through swampy riparian woodlands dominated by ancient mountain swamp gums, past a tiny population of snow gums, which are remnants of a colder climate, and skirts a chain of dark deep billabongs into bandicoot and koala territory.
