15.01.2022 West Australians have been urged to continue supporting local cafes, restaurants, pubs and retailers as long as they remain open as Mark McGowan flagged more support was on the way for small business.

15.01.2022 Part of running a small cafe business requires you to have tables and chairs outside your cafe. It says you are open and provides a service to our community in providing a seat. 01.01.2022 OK. Here is a little lesson on perceived price gouging and the effects of panic buying, from the first hand witness, me, a Cafe Owner, and my Butcher, and a Ret...ail Bulk Meat Supplier. This is why it's going to be difficult for people like me to stay in business and probably my butcher, etc etc. My Butcher on a Monday morning, delivers to me, Chicken Breasts, Thighs, Turkey, Ham, and Chicken Schnitzels. Last Monday we got Ham. That's it. That's all he could supply, as his suppliers hadn't delivered to him. They were having trouble keeping up with demand from panic buying. We had a Catering gig on the Thursday, already paid for, that required 11 Schnitzels, not to mention all the schnitzels we sell daily anyway. My Butcher, who by the way is a legend, and will go above and beyond to help me any time he can, promised he'd get me as much as he could in the next day or so. The next day he brings me 8 Schnitzels. That's all he could get, but says he'll have what we need Wed afternoon. Cool. We sell the ones he gave us for other people's lunches in the cafe. I go up Wednesday afternoon, and his meat counter is empty. And i mean totally. He looks worn out. Defeated. Buggered. He says, I've only got 5 Schnities for you. I'm like Shit, what are we going to do? He said they were so desperate to get Chicken to fulfill all the wholesale orders they had stacked up, that they went to ****** Meats, walked in the back door, saw ALL the people lined up in the store and out onto the footpath, and said, I need 100kg of chicken breast, and I'll pay you $1 more a kilo than all those people lined up out there right now. And he got the 100kg of chicken. But it still wasnt enough to fill all their orders. They'd also been to Coles, Woolies, Aldi etc and took whatever they could off their shelves, but there was hardly anything left to take. Now this is ONE Butcher shop. Multiply that by all the other Butchers, and then the businesses they supply, and you can soon see this is a rollercoaster effect. So, the problem is pretty simple to solve. Stop f*cking panic buying and hoarding, because you're going to ruin other people's livelihoods. My Butcher, who is a Meat Wholesaler and Retailer, has just paid ABOVE retail prices, to supply to people like me, his wholesale customers, who then have to pay more. The price of meat at the butchers is at levels I've never seen before. Yet, you cannot buy a chest freezer in Australia at the moment. They are sold out. Everywhere. Why? Because dickheads are panic buying meat, sitting at home with freezers full of the Shit, yet people needing it to run their business cannot get it, or if we can, its at ridiculous prices that we cant pass on. Business is tough as it is, without having to increase our prices and then drive away what little patronage we have at the moment. And the flow on effect. Businesses will close. When this is over, yet more businesses will close, and people will lose their jobs BECAUSE people have bought enough Meat, groceries etc, to last 6mths or more, and therefore will not be buying further down the track, just using what they have hoarded, and the economy will take a dive again. People need to calm down. Think of others. People are SO selfish. There is no comraderie, its every man woman and child for themselves. And its shameful. Excuse my French, as they say, in writing that. I really had to contain myself. *by the way, we did manage to fulfill our catering order, and then some, as i sent one of the staff out hunting high and low until she found some chicken breasts at a supermarket, and I made our own. We bashed out the chicken, made our own bread crumbs, and made schnitzels, and the catering was out on time! We will always find a way. Not defeated yet! See more
