21.01.2022 "The biggest obstacle that a person with Down Syndrome faces is us - the society that they live in. We all strive to achieve a life that is meaningful; both for ourselves and for the community we live in. For this to occur we must experience inclusion. Inclusion within the family, within educational institutions and within the workplace." (Down Syndrome Victoria) http://veronicahar.wixsite.com/westhobarteducation

17.01.2022 One of my clients was languishing on one of these public lists until she brought her son to me. She was frustrated because her son was 3.5 years old and she wasn't sure what was going on for him. With support from West Hobart Education Consultancy Service, she had a diagnosis within 3 weeks and was able to commence early intervention therapies to support her son to transition into Kindergarten the following year.

12.01.2022 "Those studies where TAs provide general administrative support, on average, do not show a positive impact on student learning (Education Endowment Foundation, 2018a). In comparison, those studies where TAs support individual students or small groups in targeted ways show improved learning (Brown, Morris, & Fields, 2005; Education Endowment Foundation, 2018a; Evidence for Learning in collaboration with Melbourne Graduate School of Education, 2018; Mercer, Campbell, Miller, Mercer, & Lane, 2000)."
07.01.2022 A fundamental right for all people. A fundamental responsibility for all people who interact with a person (young or old) who has a disability or condition that makes communication challenging. Take the time to listen. I'm always inspired by what I hear.
02.01.2022 Successful Inclusion is all about taking affirmative action! It is proactive rather than reactive. Inclusion requires expert knowledge of the disAbility, as well as how children learn, a sound understanding of the function of behaviour and the skills to implement appropriate behaviour strategies.
