25.01.2022 A few Drone shots of the Newport Lock. Big progress will be made over the next few weeks when the gates are installed. 12/11/18. Things will really take shape this week with the huge 7 ton steel gates being installed by a 90 ton crane, followed by our installation of the electric actuators and gearboxes. We plan to be testing by Saturday prior to the lock being flooded early next week. Extremely tight timeframe at the end of the project, but that’s our forte.... 14/11/18. A big mechanical day for us installing the actuators with a 40 ton crane. Electrical connections over the next couple of days.

24.01.2022 A few more recent photos of the Newport Boat Lock as it nears completion. Switchboard, pedestrian gates to opening of bridge, pedestrian lights, obstruction detection switches and state of the art laser scanner to monitor pedestrian traffic prior to raising bridge.

23.01.2022 A recent large mechanical installation performed by our team at the new MRD218 Sewage Pump Station in the middle of the new extensive Suncentral Maroochydore CBD Project. 375mm riser pipes up to 500mm valving and discharge pipe work. Electrical works will follow as the project advances. Great job again by the team.

23.01.2022 For the fifth year running, today I had the pleasure of attending St James multicultural college at Spring Hill and discuss a career in the electrical industry. This was organised by my daughter Jessica and the event went really well.

22.01.2022 This week the 90 kW water quality pump was installed at the Newport Lake.

22.01.2022 After 48 years of the family business, last night was the send off party for our retirement. We’re really going to miss this crew. The photo was taken late in the night after several had left.

22.01.2022 I’d like to think our employees feel like assets too. https://www.facebook.com/100001531519043/posts/2096147433779620/I’d like to think our employees feel like assets too. https://www.facebook.com/100001531519043/posts/2096147433779620/

20.01.2022 A news article from this week on the completion of our lock and the lake. https://www.facebook.com/7NewsBrisbane/videos/268846253803618/

18.01.2022 After winning the 2019 Master Electricians Australia State Excellence Award earlier this year for our works on the Newport Navigational Boat Lock, Whelan Electrical Services was extremely proud to be nominated as a Finalist for the 2019 National Excellence Award Industrial Project of the Year. Maree and myself attended the awards evening which showcased some amazing works being undertaken by fellow Master Electricians Australia members.

17.01.2022 All the team together for last night’s Christmas Party and end of working year break up.

16.01.2022 The large central sewage pump station is now complete ready for the new Maroochydore Suncentral CBD to be developed. Over two contracts, our company completed all the mechanical / electrical, switchboards, variable speed drives, odour control, MHL tanks, dosing, plumbing and telemetry works.

16.01.2022 Today we commenced the installation at Newport Waters Lock. A big crew of Hayden, Reg, Zac and Rob pulled in all the cables for the project. A great team effort. A lot more photos to come when we commence the equipment installation in the future. Works are progressing well. Switchboard and light poles are installed. One photo shows Hayden installing the proximity card readers from a scissor lift. We await completion of the security fence before we install the traffic lights. Works are progressing well for Ben, Hayden and team. Switchboard, light poles and traffic lights are now installed.

13.01.2022 We’re extremely proud and honoured to advise that, in Vince’s absence, Shayne and Ben attended the judging of the Master Electricians South Queensland Excellence Awards yesterday. They then attended the breakfast presentation function this morning. And we won the Industrial Project of the Year Award for our complex installation of the new Newport Waterways Boat Navigation Lock and Salinity Pumping System. We’re all so proud of our team and here’s hoping we can take out the National Award later this year.

13.01.2022 Today was the official opening of the new lake and lock system. So a large boat that could only just fit, went through the lock. The rising pedestrian bridge is also in place now.

13.01.2022 We have just commissioned the variable speed drives for the Tsunami, the second stage of the water park at Victoria’s largest theme park - Adventure Park. Again the Schneider Altivar VSDs controlled the KSB pumps superbly.

11.01.2022 A couple of recent shots of the workshop after the recent pressure has eased.

11.01.2022 Today we had the pleasure of hosting Certificate 2 Engineering students from St James College at Spring Hill. Following safety inductions, they observed the CAD drafting facility and inspected completed switchboards. They then visited Oly Homes in the same industrial estate as ourselves. Finally they visited Pelican Waters Boat Lock completed by our company many years ago to view the operation of the gates. Delightful bunch of young men.

10.01.2022 The flooding of the lock and lake last week. Wet testing this week

10.01.2022 The pedestrian bridge in the normal raised position to allow boat traffic. To the right is the laser scanner unit mounted 6 M high to scan for pedestrians prior to automatically raising.

04.01.2022 We have commenced one of our largest projects ever - The new boat navigation lock and salinity pump station at Newport Waterways. The southern wall concrete will soon be poured followed by the northern roof slab. After completing three on the Sunshine Coast, this is our fourth lock.

04.01.2022 After completing the pipework mechanical installation last year, we will soon commence stage 2, the electrical installation consisting of the 90 kW pumps supply, switchboard, variable speed drives, odour control units and hydrogen sulphide dosing system. The switchboard building construction has commenced.

03.01.2022 Revised to include better photos after completion of the works. Sorry guys. Another great installation by Ben, Hayden and Team. Again Matt Sheard of Mategra Developments supplied the new building for the switchboard and variable speed drives at an existing major pump station at Sandstone Point. Matt also provided the enclosure over the existing generator. This installation was quite involved as it is a fully operational pump station and Shayne devised a lot of integration planning around not interfering with operational works of the station. Well done again Team
