22.01.2022 Most of you whom have been coming to When In Rome will no doubt know 'Jess'. Jess has been a valued member of our When In Rome Family dating back to when we first opened in 2016. Jess made the difficult decision to leave as the evening hours were no longer fitting in with the needs of her family. It is a big loss for us but we wish Jess all the best in her new adventures and we may be able to pinch her back if we start to open during day hours ... 18.01.2022 COVID IMPACT ON SMALL BUSINESS With COVID-19 Many businesses have struggled, some have closed permanently whilst others are barely scraping through. Just a little insight as to how difficult it can be for businesses at this time. Whilst the unemployment rate is at its highest and employers have been shattered to let staff go and try to do the best for their staff - We are now facing another issue. Businesses have been reopening with owners putting in a lot of work to... be COVID-Safe for everyone. The government is doing a great job with Job Seeker however, it’s doing the complete opposite for businesses. I have positions available at my restaurant yet, no one will apply because the job seeker payment is so high, that they would rather sit at home and be paid then go out and get a job! COVID has affected businesses severely and we are trading on less hours because it’s not viable to be open full hours at the moment which means reduced hours for staff too. As a business owner, I’m stretched trying to cover several roles myself because people don’t want to work! Yes, Job Seeker decreases next month - but that means another month or 2 where business owners are struggling to cover several job roles just in order to keep the doors open as it just isn't viable to close and reopen again. Not to mention, having to send what little staff you do have home because they may have flu like symptoms. We have to wait until they complete a COVID Test and have the test come back negative before they can return to work. *This can be 5 days - that's 5 days of covering additional work* Trying to find additional staff to assist is almost impossible. I personally feel drained and exhausted from all of this. From an outsiders point of view, (I have been guilty of thinking this way in the past too) Seeing someone whom owns their own business, we are wired to automatically think the owners are well off financially. But this is not often the case. In fact working thousands of hours for no pay isn't really my idea of fun. Please support local businesses as much as you can. I promise you... we genuinely need it If you ever come in and see that we are short staffed, please know it isn't due to a lack of trying to employ people. 03.01.2022 We close early if we have absolutely no bookings. We are just not able to keep our doors open - pay for 3 staff to stay on, pizza oven on, pasta cooker on etc - in the hope that someone ‘might’ walk in or call for takeaway. We are FAR FROM LAZY - as it takes a lot of work to prepare the restaurant to open and do all the food prep. But what we need are customers. We had 3 staff on yesterday and today, and not one customer Other businesses are also having to do the same thing. In all honesty - we just need the support of our customers. Call us to make a booking. Call us to pre-order your takeaway. We want to create and serve amazing meals - but we need customers in order to do this.
