The alleged tradespersons approach potential victims with a varied sales pitch where they may offer their ...services at a reduced rate for laying bitumen driveways. The group allegedly commence work, request additional payment, and leave without completing the contracted work upon receiving the additional payment. There have been previous reports of the scam running in Bundaberg and Gladstone, and they are currently believed to be operating in the Emerald area. Police suspect the group are using the below featured vehicles with Qld registrations AWH647 and TN91AK. 18.01.2022 Just a quick follow-up to my post on Friday about starting a community newspaper. Im delighted and encouraged by the enthusiastic response to this. Ive alread...y had offers of support in all shapes and forms, and have been approached by local businesses keen to advertise. Its been wonderful! Im still very much in the early stages of developing this and doing lots of research to figure out the best approach. I am still working full-time in my current role as a newspaper designer and sub-editor until June 26 when we put the last lot of regional newspapers to bed (it will be an emotional day!). But Im hoping if I can get this new community paper up and running, that hopefully we might see the first edition by late July, all going well. See more

14.01.2022 EASING OF COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS. Police are preparing for restrictions in Queensland to be eased from this weekend. From Saturday (02/05/2020), in addition... to previously approved activities, Queenslanders will be able to leave home for recreational reasons Some examples include: o To go for a drive, including learner driving o Ride their motorbike, jet-ski or boat o Have a picnic o Visit a national park o Shop for non-essential items Importantly, there are three conditions which must be followed to ensure everyone is complying with the new directions: o You must stay within 50km radius of your principal residence o You must practice social distancing and maintain 1.5m from other persons to the extent reasonably practicable. o You may be joined by those from your household or alternatively one other person who doesnt live with you. Before you leave home, ensure that you are following these rules and if you are taking advantage of recreational travel that you are doing so within a 50km radius. If you need to travel beyond 50km, make sure it is for a permitted purpose such as for work or medical reasons. Rules around parties or large gatherings have not changed and police will take enforcement action if these occur. A person may only allow up to two visitors. We have boosted the number of police patrolling public spaces to ensure everyone is complying. If we do see large congregations of people, officers will move people on. If you do go somewhere and it is busy with people, please apply common sense and reconsider your plans. Officers will continue to educate and show compassion when engaging with people, however, for those blatantly flouting the laws we will take enforcement. On the spot fines of $1,334 for individuals and $6,000 for business can be issued. While we are heading in the right direction, now is not the time to be complacent. The vast majority of people in our local area are doing the right thing and following the rules and we want that to continue.

07.01.2022 Hey Queensland This weekend, new restrictions are coming into place that will enable you to travel within a 50km radius of your home for recreational purposes..., but its not time to be complacent. We need your help to ensure we dont undo all of progress we have made so far. If you go out this weekend, please make sure you are: Socially distancing at all times Practising good hygiene Only going out with your family or as an individual with one friend + Staying within a 50kms radius of your home If everyone continues to follow the current restrictions and we keep seeing less cases, further restrictions may be lifted. But, if we dont follow these measures, we may see more restrictions put in place to help keep Queenslanders safe.

06.01.2022 Hello! Im Jen and would love to be the editor of a new community newspaper for our region. I have been a newspaper sub-editor and designer for more than 17 yea...rs, and yesterday I was one of those people made redundant by News Corp. I have worked in various roles including at The Central Telegraph (many years ago!), the Gladstone Observer, and was the chief designer at the Morning Bulletin for several years. For the past few years I have worked in a centralised role, designing and sub-editing the Weekend magazine and other group editorial pages that are shared among newspapers throughout Queensland and Northern New South Wales. I was born in Biloela and lived here for 19 years before going to university in Rockhampton. I live in Biloela now, having moved back here with my daughter five years ago, and have been working remotely from my home office. Our region deserves to have a community newspaper and I very much would like to be involved. My vision for our paper would be one where our readers send in their stories, community notes, sports stories and results, where important press releases from council can be published. No court stories, or divisive politics, just good news stories that bring our community closer together. Where photos of people out and about enjoying a coffee or a meal at one of our fine establishments can be shown. Where school news can be printed with lots of happy little faces having fun. Jokes, recipes, pets of the week, poems, art, anything people are proud of and want to share. Where people can check to see what events are coming up. Ideally I would like this paper to be printed, not digital. I want our kids growing up knowing what a newspaper looks like. I want people to look forward to popping out to the shops and the newsagents to grab their copy each week. Im also thinking we could deliver the paper to our elderly residents who cant leave their homes so they can stay in touch. So if the community could send in their news and photos, I could edit and design it. If anyone from various organisations, the council, etc, would like to meet up so we can have a chat and see if we can make this work, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks very much. See more
05.01.2022 Within the last 2 weeks, I have witnessed two near misses, and been told of a third. On each of these occasions, the drivers at fault were senior citizens. Each time a collision was avoided by observant and quick thinking drivers in mine vehicles. I must commend each of the drivers who took evasive action for not abusing, yelling or horn tooting at the at fault drivers. I thank you all for the consideration you have shown and the fine examples you are setting. Top job guys
