05.01.2022 Fantastic work to the team and clients at Kelso, it's great to see our services supporting the local community!

04.01.2022 Winner of the 2015 Northern Rivers #Volunteer Team of the Year Award is The Whiddon Group Grafton Auxiliary at The Whiddon Group Grafton The Whiddon Group Graft...on Auxiliary are an outstanding group of people dedicated to making life special for the residents in their service. They meet regularly to organise activities to raise money to buy equipment. In the process of raising money they provide great entertainment days for the residents. The most special day is the Spring Fair. No stone is left unturned to provide an outstanding program for the day. There is entertainment in the main courtyard and stalls organised by the auxiliary. The members cook up a storm to sell on the cake stall and grow plants over the months before to have ready for the plant stall. The book stall is always popular with the early comers buying up all the latest titles. The white elephant stall is well patronised and the ladies make craft like crocheted hand towels and knitted rugs to sell. This also includes getting staff to bring in items and family members also get involved. This band of volunteers also sell raffle tickets locally to raise money and have a BBQ at Bunnings. This is only part of their generosity. Every Wednesday and Saturday two volunteers on a regular roster come in to do the ice cream run. They visit every resident and offer an ice cream in a cone. If lucky, staff and visitors also are offered one as well. Every Friday a group of the volunteers come in to do beauty therapy and set the ladies hair for the weekend. When they do the beauty therapy even the men like to sit and join in and the funny comments and banter makes for an enjoyable morning for men and women. The ladies look lovely for when their family visits on the weekend and everyone comments how nice they look making them feel special. The auxiliary put our residents first in everything they do. A lot of their efforts are to raise money for top of the line equipment that can be used to make life more comfortable but in these efforts they want to include the residents in the activity. They raise money at the Spring Fair but when doing that provide enjoyment and an avenue to mix with the local community. They organise a Fashion Parade and get staff to model the clothes. The residents have pride of place at the top table and they have great fun looking at the staff model the clothes and single them out to sashay past. They also include family as much as possible so everyone can have a lovely time. With 64 people this is no small feat. It is often difficult for family and carers to have something interesting to do and talk about on their visits and the activities give them a special outing with their loved one. The Spring Fair is a wonderful day for everyone with a very happy atmosphere and entertainment all morning. It gives families a day to come and visit and be entertained and share a lovely morning with their loved one. This is a lovely day to bring the community into our service and they take full advantage of the occasion. Our auxiliary are tireless setting up tables and all the things like change and raffles. They also do tea and scones which as you can imagine are very popular sitting outside like a garden party. The dedicated auxiliary work as a well-oiled machine. They meet regularly to make sure all their activities include all their team and that they have a reliable roster to support their activities. This is not an easy task as they are not getting younger and need to be on the lookout for new members to sustain their group. The Whiddon Group home would not be the special place it is without our wonderful auxiliary. They bring laughter and fun and make the residents feel special. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they get great enjoyment by being able to purchase top of the line equipment for The Whiddon Group to use.
