21.01.2022 Well Santa come through with the goods this morning delivering me dog numbers #100 & 101 for the area I'm currently trapping across 3 properties with in a total perimeter of 72kms. Merry Christmas to all!
20.01.2022 Here's a good reason why traps should be checked as often as possible. Every now and then we manage to 'just' trap a dog by a toe or in this case a pad, not something we aim for but it does happen, this is were the length of time a dog spends in the trap becomes even more important. If a trapped dog manages to escape you don't just lose any dog, you lose a now well educated dog that will prove extremely difficult to re-trap...
17.01.2022 Flicking through the photo archives today finding photos I'd forgot ever taking...
14.01.2022 Every now and then we get a unhappy customer, but unfortunately we have a no returns policy. This fella was trapped with a shiny new Bridger 5 straight from a trapping workshop and into the ground, not something I'd recommend just one of those things I've wanted to try...
08.01.2022 When it comes to trap anchoring I personally much prefer the use of natural log drags rather than stakes or manufactured drags, but every now and then I find myself wandering through the scrub for 20 minutes trying to find a suitable log drag, that’s 20 minutes I’d rather spend setting another set or 2 further down the track. So I decided to fabricate some drags for when a good log drag becomes hard to find, this is what I came up with.
06.01.2022 Who else likes to double set? Well here’s a good reason why you should have individual drags on your double sets. On several occasions now I’ve been lucky enough to snag double hook ups, and even a triple hook up at the one set by using this method. Not only do drags allow the dog to move to shade away from your trap site without destroying it, but they also come in handy when chasing pack dogs with double sets. They allow the first trapped dog to quickly move on from the set and hopefully leave the second trap set and ready for the next dog. It doesn’t always go to plan but it will often enough to warrant doing so
06.01.2022 This trapline was set after a paddock was mustered and found to have had 30 dry cows and 7 dog bitten calves. 11 dogs were removed from the immediate area in the following few days...
06.01.2022 3 young bitches trapped together while trapping the offset area of a CQ mine site, 2 were caught on a staked double Jake set and the other on a drag set 5m down the track, a 4th bitch was trapped the next morning in the same drag set.
04.01.2022 Sometimes they get too close...
02.01.2022 The big dogs are still on the move fairly well here looking for females. This time of year is a great time for multiple catches...
