25.01.2022 2020 has been a year of firsts for many. For WHIN, we're not only hosting our first online annual general meeting today but we're thrilled to present our first annual report in web-based, interactive format. The image below shows just a hint of WHIN's impact and influence across our 6 priority areas from gender equity to sexual and reproductive health.... The first presentation you see here (https://www.whin.org.au/about-us/annual-reports/) gives you an engaging glimpse into the annual report but we encourage you to download the full PDF to access all the fun interactive images, links and resources. At our AGM this pm, we'll also present our work to apply a gender lens to COVID-19 response and recovery, and launch our 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign. Watch this space for more to follow. 25.01.2022 TRIGGER WARNING: stalking, violence against women At WHIN, we are devastated to acknowledge the violent death of Celeste Manno and the systemic failures that her family have highlighted, notably that she had been to police about the stalking she was experiencing and had taken out an intervention order. As Celeste’s family have emphasised, we must do better as a society, we must challenge the condoning of violence against women wherever and however it occurs. We stand with Ce...leste’s family in their fight for better system responses to stalking that accurately recognise the dangers and take action to promote women’s safety. Our thoughts are with Celeste’s family and friends and our resolve to do all that we can to prevent violence against women is strengthened anew as we witness the devastating consequences of this horrific act of violence. 13.01.2022 Nearly half a million women and gender diverse people live in the region that WHIN serves. WHIN delivers its programs on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation who we acknowledge as the Traditional Owners of this land. Over 41% of those in our region speak a language other than English at home. See the circle below to find some of the many languages spoken in our region.... 12.01.2022 Last Thursday the Victorian Government released their latest 'Family Violence Reform Rolling Action Plan (2020-2023)' which will guide prevention and reform through the next three years across the state. At WHIN we were pleased to see the importance of regional primary prevention partnerships being recognised in the plan and we welcome the continued investment in primary prevention across the state. WHIN offers training and consultancy that supports organisations to build g...ender-equitable workplaces and communities where women and girls are respected and free from violence and harassment. Watch this space from mid January as we make some announcements about our training and consultancy offerings. 02.01.2022 So exciting to see Kamala Harris elected US Vice President, the first woman, the first Black woman. "While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last, because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourselves in a way that others may not, simply because they’v...e never seen it before, but know that we will applaud you every step of the way." 02.01.2022 Here at WHIN, we've been busy preparing for our 2020 campaign for #16DaysofActivism against Gender-Based Violence. Starting on 25 November, 16 Days is a global campaign to end gender-based violence. This year we'll lead a social media campaign using engaging tiles designed in-house, like the one below, to build on the '16 Actions for 16 Days' theme used in recent years. This theme, which incorporates gender equity, features one simple action per day that we can all take to p...revent gender-based violence. To learn more about WHIN’s ’16 Actions for 16 Days’ Campaign, please contact Kate Ravenscroft for a copy of the actions: [email protected] and watch this space for updates: https://www.whin.org.au/16-days-of-activism-against-gender/ And don't forget to follow WHIN on Instagram and/or Facebook where we'll be posting each of the 16 days.
