23.01.2022 If your cat becomes stressed when travelling in the car, you could try spraying some Feliway in their carry cage. This is a product that mimics cat's natural chemical signals, also known as pheromones. Feliway helps to comfort and reassure cats and kittens and can help to reduce signs of stress such as urine spraying, scratching, fighting or hiding. We often use this in the cattery if a cat is upset in their new surroundings and if you look next time you visit the vet, they usually have a few Feliway diffusers plugged into powerpoints. You can purchase it in diffuser form or as a spray from the vet or online.
21.01.2022 Cats over the age of about 8 years are considered senior and can experience something similar to a person with dementia. They may seem confused and anxious particularly at night - causing them to roam and yowl. If this is your cat then he or she needs lots of extra comfort, cuddles and reassurance. Charlie - our old boy meeter and greeter often yowls at night in the house as if he is lost. He sounds so sad and mournful. A pat and some reassurance that we are still around seems to settle him down.
20.01.2022 Wow what a busy Christmas and New Year season we have had. It was lovely having so many of our regulars come to visit as well as meeting lots of new furbabies. Thankyou all for coming to stay. One very funny story of the season concerns Oreo a lovely boy visiting from up north. His family packed up their camper van and travelled to Coffs for a holiday. When they arrived and opened the van they discovered Oreo had stowed away for the trip! A quick phone call and we were able to give him a room whilst his family continues their trip. Apparently the same thing happened to them last year when they holidayed in Illuka and found their other cat had done the same thing!
17.01.2022 For anyone interested in trying The Natural Paw Company Tofu Litter (which we love), it is on special this week at Woolies for $6 a box - half price! Yay.
17.01.2022 Just like humans, cats can get skin cancer - particularly on their noses and particularly if they have a pale coloured nose. Treatment in the early stages is very successful and can often 'fix' the problem. You can try using a sunscreen on your cat's nose but we have never had any success with this as they always rub or lick it off. The best idea is to keep an eye on your cat's nose and if you notice any changes take them to visit the vet.
17.01.2022 Just to update those that are interested, Gepeto will be going to a new home where he will receive lots of love and attention. Thanks to those who asked me about him.
16.01.2022 Chocolate whilst delicious for us can be extremely toxic for cats. It can cause decreased blood pressure, heart problems and even seizures. If you think your cat might have nibbled on some then a trip to the vet is essential. Sad that they can't eat it - but means more for us!
15.01.2022 A very Merry Christmas to all our kitty cats and their families. We love you all and so appreciate you visiting us. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas break. Hope to see you in 2019. Max and Steph xxxxx
14.01.2022 A dear little boy who has stayed with us many times went missing recently. He is black and white, approx 11 months old and answers to Felix. He went missing from Nariah Crescent in Toormina and his owner believes he was taken. He is a lovely cat and his owner is understandably distraught. We are very upset too as we have had a lot of fun with Felix over the time he has stayed with us. He is a much loved furbaby. Please keep an eye out for him.
10.01.2022 Another busy Christmas here at the cattery where we had lots of our regular furry friends plus many new kitty cats come to stay. Santa came and gave them all a present to take home. With the weather so hot at the moment make sure you have plenty of access to water for your furry family members. xxxxx
10.01.2022 With Covid 19 travel restrictions we have of course been a lot quieter than usual. However we are still operating and less cats staying means even more time for us to devote to your furry family member. Christmas bookings have started coming in already and we look forward to seeing our regular kitty cats as well as new customers.
09.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our valued furry visitors and their families. Thankyou for your custom this year. We so appreciate everyone's kind comments and repeat business. Thankyou for trusting us to look after your family members whilst you go away. We love them all and really enjoy getting to know each and every one. Dad and I hope you have a great Christmas break and a happy, healthy 2018.
09.01.2022 Around 25 million years ago the Proailurus (first cat) roamed the world. It is the earliest known ancestor of today's cat. It was a bit heavier than most of our modern day cats and rather than being cute and fluffy it looked a bit more like a mongoose. Thankfully they have evolved as I don't fancy cuddling up to a mongoose!
08.01.2022 What Breed am I? I have beautiful slivery blue fur. I am devoted, affectionate, gentle and loving. I can be shy around strangers. I am strong and muscular and usually slender (unless you over feed me).... I have short fur and don't need a lot of grooming. I don't shed a lot of fur. I like to talk a lot. Who am I?..... I am a Russian Blue. See more
06.01.2022 Gepeto is a handsome 15 year old male tabby cat who is looking for a new home as his mother is moving away soon and cannot take him. He is used to being the only animal in the household. He is an indoor/outdoor boy who is litter trained and is in excellent health. His vaccinations are up to date. Gepeto is one of our regular visitors at the cattery and being such a lovely boy I am hoping that someone might like to adopt him. If you would like to meet him or know someone wh...o might be interested then please let me know. You can reply through Facebook or call/text on 0428366880. Thanks.
06.01.2022 After a very busy Christmas period things have quietened down now. We have 2 lovely boys - Cecil and Denzel who are staying with us for a year whilst their parents travel around Australia. People sometimes ask us if it is difficult for cats to adapt to staying in a cattery. In most cases they settle in really well and soon learn the routine. We offer them the chance to come out of their run and have a look around (but still be inside) several times a day when we are feed...ing and cleaning their space. Most like to have a bit of an explore and are happy to return to their room after. Cecil and Denzel are very happy and are enjoying lots of cuddles and love. They are bringing us lots of joy as both are very affectionate. When you consider the alternative of being left home alone with someone popping in once a day to feed them, boarding your cat offers security and the knowledge they are being cared for and loved. 05.01.2022 I read an interesting paragraph on the origins of the saying 'Let the Cat out of the Bag' the other day and thought you might be interested. Apparently in the olden days at fairs and markets, dishonest traders might offer a discount to a housewife wanting to buy a live piglet if she agreed to purchase prepackaged, sight unseen already tied up in a small sack for carrying. This was a risky thing to do as the pig might be ill or dead or may have been replaced with a stray cat. So a careful shopper keen to inspect before parting with their money would untie the top of the sack and LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG! In general use the saying came to mean to reveal a trick or secret.
05.01.2022 Hi Everyone. For those of you who have become devotees of The Natural Paw Company Tofu litter - GOOD NEWS. Coles is now stocking this product as well as Woolies - so it is even easier to get hold of.... If you haven't tried it yet, we recommend you do. It lasts for ages, no smell, little tracking and is the best clumping litter we have come across. Stay safe and well. xxxx
03.01.2022 Do you think your cat can understand what you are saying? Cats often respond to their owner's voice and they pay attention to tone as well. Many are intimidated by harsh or loud tones (just as we are) - so sweet talking will usually make the most impact.
02.01.2022 Finding the right litter for your cat can be quite a challenge. Some are clumping but don't hold together that well when you go to remove the waste. Others are sharp on their feet, expensive and sometimes smelly. If you have a long haired cat sometimes litter gets caught in their fur and the worst thing is when your furry family member uses the litter and it is then tracked all around the house! We have just found the most fantastic litter! It is from The Natural Paw Comp...any (an Australian company) and it is called Tofu Cat Litter. It is available from Woolworths and comes in a 2kg box. It is actually made from bean curd residue. The box says it will last up to 4 weeks and I was very doubtful when I read that but thought I would try it on one of our cats Sassie Lee Petunia. It lasted longer than that (night time use only)! The best thing about it is its clumping ability - it forms a solid mass after puss wets it so that when you go to remove the waste it comes out as a lump with no wastage - that's why it lasts so long. We also love that it doesn't retain a smell and it doesn't track like a lot of other litters we have tried - and there is no dust when you use it. It is also soft on paws. We have tried a lot of different litters but this one is by far our favourite. Woolies sells it at $12 a box - although I have seen it on special a few times. I've include a photo so you know what you are looking for if you decide to try. Please let us know if you like it. Steph and Max
