21.01.2022 When your best friend has to drag you out to socialise

17.01.2022 IS YOUR PET IN PAIN? Arthritis can be painful and very uncomfortable for our pets. Just like for those of us with arthritis, bursts of activity can worsen so...re joints in our pets, making them feel more stiff and painful. If only our pets could tell us so ! HOW TO TELL? Pets let us know they are in pain and discomfort through a range of behaviours, from shaking, panting excessively, to whimpering. Some signs of arthritis also include: trouble getting off their bed; pain or stiffness when getting up or down; reluctance walking, climbing stairs, jumping or playing; yelping when touched; licking their affected joints; or a change in personality (becoming irritable in response to increased pain, just like us!). WHAT CAN YOU DO? Vet Around The Corner cares as much about your pet’s health and comfort as you do. We have the experience to provide your pet with a customised range of effective traditional and/or holistic interventions to make sure your pet’s pain is eased and they stay comfortable, pain-free and happy through the colder weather and beyond! Vet Around The Corner is your family’s mobile vet service with heart, experience and expertise. We are committed to journeying alongside you and your furbaby to ensure they live their happiest and healthiest lives! 12.01.2022 COMMON HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TOXIC TO DOGS: With many people and families spending lots of quality time with their precious furbabies, Vet Around The Corner would l...ike to share a gentle reminder about keeping our pawsome pooches away from the following common household items that are TOXIC to dogs: Chocolate Grapes, sultanas, raisins Garlic Onion Alcohol Cycads (more info below) All of these common household items can be incredibly toxic to dogs, and may even be fatal. CYCADS: The cycad plant (also known as the sago palm) is a common household plant that is hardy and requires little care, making it the ideal choice for many. However, many people are not aware of just how toxic it can be for dogs, or even how its leaves can be quite attractive-smelling to dogs, making accidental ingestion likely. Any part and even a small amount of the cycad plant is toxic to our canine furbabies, and can result in liver failure and death. Here is what you can do to keep your pet dog safe and well: Remove all cycad plants from your property, if possible If possible, have cycads kept away from areas where your dog is kept unsupervised, or do not allow them to roam free in areas where cycads are planted Remove any loose vegetation from cycads, or any fallen seeds or nuts to prevent our pooches from eating them If you see your pet dog eating a cycad plant, contact your veterinarian immediately for first aid advice. Vet Around The Corner wishes everyone and their pets happy and safe times together . We are your family’s mobile vet service bringing heart, expertise and experience to your doorstep. For all of your veterinary needs, please feel free to contact Vet Around The Corner on 0437 600 037 and let us take veterinary care from our hearts to your home #mobilevet #vetaroundthecorner #wecometoyou #lovemypet #lovemydog #lovemycat

07.01.2022 Taking a rest after 20 hours of searching for survivors among the wreckage of the World Trade Center in 2001. Many of the search dogs became depressed because t...hey only found corpses instead of survivors, so the firefighters would frequently volunteer to be buried in some of the rubble so the dogs could find a living person, and that made all the difference. Sometimes I wonder if people deserve dogs.

02.01.2022 Over the last couple of weekends, QFES volunteer handlers and their operational doggos spent time at Whyte Island undertaking their regular Urban Search and Res...cue (USAR) training. Operational dogs are often used in situations where a building has collapsed after a cyclone or earthquake. Part of the USAR training is teaching the dogs to sniff out live scent that may be trapped underneath the rubble or be unresponsive. When they locate this person they remain at the scene and bark continuously until their handler arrives. Using these trained dogs has proven itself to be one of the fastest ways to locate people who are trapped under rubble. One of the volunteer handlers, Bridget owns three dogs; Belle the Rottweiler cross Fox Terrier; Sasha the German Shepard; and Cassie the Border Collie. All three were rescue animals with Cassie, the youngest, scheduled to be euthanised at only eight months old before being given a second chance. She has now blossomed into her role as an operational dog! Take a look at this video for more information about these amazing operational floofers and the work their handlers put in!
