07.01.2022 Its with great sadness we report the passing of Mark "Redman" Andrews. A champion on and off the green, Redman was a big game player that was often the thorn in the side of opposition teams. Witnessed first hand on more than one occasion. Like on the bowls green Mark fought right to the last end. Our thoughts are with Dionne and family during this time
06.01.2022 VALE - RODNEY ALAN LEGGE - WOODEND BOWLING CLUB. Rod passing on Saturday at the age of 67, has and will come as a shock to many of his friends and former team mates. A former member of the Kyneton Golf Bowling Club he transferred to the Woodend Bowling Club after many years of the Bowls Whisperer convincing him to join . Rod not only as a Premiership player in 2011-2012 he served the Club as President 2013/14 and Secretary 2009/10 and 2010/11 ,Team Manager, together with ...any other thing he could do to assist the Club. He played 208 games for the Club., won the Pairs Championship with Brian Howden 2006/07 and the Frank O'Brien Pairs with Dennis Barker in 2005/06 I have spoken to fellow team members 0f the Premiership side , including one of his closest mates close family friend. Mark Schafer, who was with him in is last days. Mark spoke of a man of many talents, important employments and good at what ever he took on . A family man , Rod had had a brain tumor back approximately 15 months ago ,had recovered to play most of the recent season . To his wife Dannii ,his son Duncan and two daughters Madeleine & Grace who were by his side on his passing ,we feel for your loss and the thoughts of all CHBD & former team mates. are with you at this time. Rest Easy Mate. THE WHISPERER
05.01.2022 Sad news just received of the passing of David Clements . Dave passed away peacefully last night with his loving wife Rosemary by his side. David loved his Club Macedon as they loved him. Both him and Rosemary for many years kept that Club together . Personally he was a mate I loved to play against as a skipper. Can’t remember ever beating him. David was a tieless worker for the CHBD taking on many tasks over the years. Whenever they had trouble finding someone to do a job or fill a position .he would always step forward . He always greeted you with a big smile and just loved being on the Bowling green . My thoughts go out to Rosemary ,his son Peter and their families . Rest easy mate you will be sadly missed.
05.01.2022 It I very great sadness I speak of the passing of a much loved and respected member of the Gisborne Bowling Club ROGER COTTON .Already the tributes have started to flow. In the Business work he is described as a Ambassador, A Mentor, A Mediator a leader of men. What a great Clubman he was, worked tirelessly, helping bring the Club from a struggling Club on the green performance wise, to a back to back Premierships .With his big smile he welcomed so many new comers to the Cl...ub , making sure they were made welcome into a Club he quickly had grown to love. He led the cheer squad on final days and was so much a huge part of the Clubs success. So many words ,One of Natures Gentleman ,a Friend a mate, someone you liked to spend time in his company.. They all describe him so well . On a personal side he also became a dear friend to the Bacon family, becoming with his lovely wife June, one of the favourite customers of The 3 Little Pigs Restaurant . His support and wisdom will never be forgotten .He knew most of ,if not all the staff by their first name and they were very fond of him . As the CHBD Whiisperer he always keptt me up to scratch with who was transferring Clubs and what was going on in the local Bowls world . My thoughts go out to his loving wife June & his family. Nothing was more important to him . Rest easy big fellow ,you will be sadly missed by so many.. THE WHISPERER See more
03.01.2022 Need someone to step up and take over and promote the CHBD. Had a look at the ladder after 3 rounds with the usual sides filling the top 3 sides in a 6 Club event. Now reduced to 3 rinks and 21 ends. So many young players have left to play in the big smoke. A quick look at the sides - Kyneton -The Reigning Premiers have no Richard Dwyer having a year off - but another man Ian Matthews with a few different shirts is a handy replacement from Sunbury, Lost my house again ...last season when they beat the Tigers for the flag. Repeated the dose in the first round, Undefeated to date. Kyneton Golf the othe unbeaten side. Can see much change there- with 4 ex Woodend players still playing . A few names missing with only 3 rinks now playing. Lancefield - No P.J to date ,the rest look similar. Romsey - welcome another with a few shirts Garry Templer with Danny Fortune & his daughter Akasha returning from Sunbury .Can't spot Squizzy Taylor ? Gisborne have picked up Peter Williams former Woodend and others, but no Graham Quaife or Fletch to date. Welcome to Diggers Rest who replace Bacchus Marsh in the top grade. Watched Son Matthew Bacon play his first game for the Bacchus Marsh Club who have merged with the Avenue Club. Playing in Division 1 Metro Comp against Moonee Valley, a very young and up and about side. Matt had not played Pennant for near 18 months and was asked to skip . Moonee Valley were all over the Marsh early and led on all rinks . The Marsh never gave up getting within 6 shots in the finish. Matt supported by Lee Greening, Amy Gloury and former Gisborne player Jamie Hutchison fought back form 8- 2 down to win 22- 15. Phil Minniti i in a low scoring game came from behind to win 16 -12 whilst Dan Willis & Simon Cornock both fought back for narrow losses. The merging of 2 Clubs is always going to be difficult with sides still playing in the Ballarat Competition as well as Melbourne. The WHISPERER See more
03.01.2022 Nice of my son Matthew retiring me , but as I love the CHBD so much , I still hope to get to the odd game ,starting tomorrow at Bacchus ,to witness a Gisborne side that has 11 or 12 of its final side from last year missing ,take on Bacchus Marsh 2nd side who are coming off a Division 2 Premiership. Should be a close one. I think Kyneton play Lancefield who I believe have lost Mark Godbolt & Troy Williams gone to the big smoke , Kyneton will be without Alex Stewart (maybe to ...Sunbury), and I think Craig Vincent is having a year off. Think Dean Goodwin might also be missing,Kaka McDonald returns to help out. As Division 1 has been reduced to 6 sides that will leave Kyneton Golf to play Romsey. No news on these sides. No doubt the C.H.B.D. is struggling, but I commend the people that have stepped up on the Committee , making an effort to keep the Association going. As you can see I am guessing a bit , so if anyone can add some comments please do . THE RETIRED WHISPERER See more
