20.01.2022 The remote opal-mining town of White Cliffs has no police. Instead it’s full of retired officers. Former coppers John McCaskill, Lindsay White, Bill Hoskins and... Adrian Portch tell us why. More stories from White Cliffs feature in last week's #BackRoads episode. Check it out on ABC iview - http://ab.co/2juexGb

16.01.2022 "He put 200 pounds on the hotel counter and said 'we'll have a march tomorrow'." - Neave Young, WWII veteran and opal miner. Read Mr Young's story: http://ab.co/2olOAtM #MyBackRoads by Jenia Ratcliffe #LestWeForget #ANZAC

12.01.2022 Share this around For all those people traveling and googleing distance travel times DON'T believe the times that they say. the Picture shows that it should tak...e you 8.5 hours to travel from whitecliffs to wanaaring which is only 221km with a driving speed of 26kph, WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP, I don't know anyone even the very novice of driver to drive that slowly(what are they on a pushbike) DON'T trust Google's estimated times of arrival. The realistic travel times for out here even on a rough road would not take anymore than about 3hrs, most people and i'm not talking about locals do it in about 2.5 hrs. This also goes for all the dirt roads around this area and beyond. All this is going to do is turn travellers off going these routes and in turn be bad for all the towns and businesses in them due to incorrect information. PLEASE SHARE See more
