21.01.2022 Day 5 of 10 gratitude photography Today I am grateful for music. I just can't live without it. Seriously! Throughout my life, I have struggled with music, we have a love-hate relationship. Even before I went to nursery school I was sent to a music school to learn the basics of music and later on I took piano and flute lessons because in my family, music was always important. However, I just didn't fit in - as always - because I can't read score. The black dots just don't make... sense to me! I tried, for many many years I tried really hard to learn how to read it but I was never really successful. My approach to music is intuition and listening but since I was told off for not "performing like expected" by my piano teacher and mum for so long it took me ages to accept that my way of processing music is less common but still valid. In my teens I taught myself how to play the guitar and bass guitar and I had a short-lived romance with Medieval bagpipes (Hümmelchen and Rauschpfeife). But my true love lies with the harp, the queen of all instruments! Anyway, I love music, the sound of the most beautiful instruments made with love by skilled craftsmen; the songs of nature, the hauling of the wind, the lullaby of the waves, the dance of rain drops on a window, the ballads of the birds; the eternal sound of silence; the heartbeat of a loved one. All this is music that soothes my soul and makes me happy. And I am truly grateful for it! The picture is one of those rare family album shots showing me and Brighid. 18.01.2022 Happy World Yoga Day everyone!!! I just came home from teaching a Yoga Day event at Shippit and I received the most beautiful gift a yoga teacher could wish for. A room full of students, most of them new to yoga and anxiously awaiting what lies ahead of them. Noisy colleagues during lunch time nearby, doors opening and closing, you could still sense hectic and busy minds in the yoga space. Students looking around, giggling, not allowing themselves to immerse in the y...oga experience... And suddenly, as we move through the gentle back care class, I felt people opening up. Surrendering to relaxation as we got closer to Savasana, finally letting go, closing their eyes and finding stillness in the safe space we had created together. I can never get enough of this miracle, the magic of yoga, the wonders that relaxation does to people. Pulling them out of the busy workday and giving them a little holiday for body, mind and soul. No matter how hard teaching yoga sometimes can be, how physically draining, how financially tough, how mentally exhausting... in the end, seeing my students relax and be happy is what keeps me going. And I feel so incredibly blessed and grateful to be witness of this process, ever and ever again. The greatest gift for yoga teachers are their students. Thank you everyone!!! 07.01.2022 Day 3 of 10 gratitude photography Today I am grateful for the sea and the beach. Growing up in a mountain village, I never cared about the ocean, I never dreamed of a beach holiday. I just wasn't interested in the sea and most beaches in Northern Europe are muddy and grey and cold all year round anyway. But now I love going to beach, I can't wait until snorkelling season starts again! I have discovered a whole new world that lies beneath the water surface with so many strange... and friendly creature. For me, being under water is truly a state of yoga, pure bliss. 07.01.2022 Day 2 of 10 gratitude photography Today I am grateful for water. It's been a rainy, windy day and most people tend to complain about the bad weather. But i love rain, honestly. Of course, I also enjoy the many sunny days I can spend at the beach, snorkelling, reading or just listening to the song of the waves - but with most parts of Australia being in drought for several years now I am grateful for every drop of rain. I am grateful that clean drinking water is available right out of the tab whenever we need it.
