19.01.2022 If you ask most people to name a pollinating insect, most would answer 'honey bee'. They would be correct, but there are so many other insects that are also pollinators. In the four pics shown here, only one (far-left) of the pollinators is a bee, and even it is not a honey bee. These insects (and a spider although hard to see) are all local natives and they are all pollinating local native plants. Our local insects are vital for the health of our local plants. #wildlifeinwhitehorse #WhitehorseWeekendWildlife

15.01.2022 The State Government’s Roadmap to Recovery is encouraging hospitality venues to trade outdoors, which significantly reduces the risk of contracting or spreading viruses. We know it’s vital that our local traders are allowed to get back to work and reopen as soon as possible. We know it’s just as important for our community to reconnect with family, friends and loved ones in a safe environment. To help local businesses welcome the community back to their venues safely we nee...d to think differently about how we use spaces that we do have. Our much loved cafes and restaurants are taking over some of our footpaths and parking spaces. With the possibility of reduced parking, why not take a stroll or jump on your bike and check out to your local shopping strip, café or favourite restaurant. #WhitehorseStrongerTogether #ThinkLocalBuyLocal

Mason, a waste truck enthusiast, can't contain his excitement when the trucks arrive and our drivers sound the horn. If you've got a story of Whitehorse community spirit, we'd love ...to hear it. Send us a message to be featured. #WorldKindnessDay See more

These were once so common on the western plains near Melbourne that the early settlers said the area looked like it was covered in snow when they were in flower. Now, with all the grasslands either gone completely or heavily modified, the species is known in the wild from just one small patch near a rail line in western Melbourne. These photos are of a cultivated specimen.
