10.01.2022 HI THERE, R U OK? Today is R U OK? Day, a national day of action reminding us that we’ve all got what it takes to support each other. R U Ok? Day evolved to raise awareness around suicide and how to have a conversation with someone if you are concerned about their wellbeing.... We are, by nature, social creatures and with all that’s happening in 2020 we all need personal connection via chats and conversations, especially due to the hectic pace of life. By giving people the opportunity and the time to share what they’re feeling, we’re giving them something truly invaluable - a sense of connection and a sense of belonging. If you’ve noticed someone isn’t their usual self, less sociable than usual, more tired than usual, or reacting unlike themselves, ask the question. R U Ok? Very simple words to ask any family member, friend, employee or team mate. The following four simple steps can help you get started: 1. Ask the question - are you ok? 2. Listen without judgement - they may simply need someone to hear them out 3. Encourage action it could be through the help of a health professional 4. Check in genuine care and concern can make all the difference We’ve all got what it takes to start a conversation with someone we’re worried about, and to foster a workplace where people feel confident asking and answering these very important questions.
