15.01.2022 Infection control has always played a very important part of my life. During my dental career I always made sure that my infection control practices were of a high standard. Having good policies in place is crucial in the dental clinic and was equally important in my personal life as well. Many years ago my partner was diagnosed with kidney failure and needed dialysis whilst awaiting a transplant. Dialysis is like a full time job, going to the dialysis unit 3 times a week... for 4-8 hours while a machine cleans and filters your blood. For 10 years there certainly were some hard time for us mentally and physically. It was also very time consuming and it gave us a lot of challenges that’s for sure. So we made the decision to have a machine at home to give him back some of his time and quality of life. So as you can imagine, infection control was crucial to avoid infection. It was second nature to me because of my extensive dental training and experience. Luckily he got a kidney and that’s in the past but I still value the importance of good infection control practices. We will get through COVID-19 but be assured I will always take every precaution to keep my clients and my loved ones safe. I was happy to do this extra course and it gave me a small buzz completing it. Now I have 2 Covid certificates. It also made me a bit questionable as to why I didn’t go to Hygiene school when I was accepted. Maybe in my next life. But for now, I enjoy doing what I do and look forward to a Covid free life.
