25.01.2022 Have you heard of this weird and totally delish idea? This is a must try! (If you havent already)
24.01.2022 Paleo, gluten free and gut friendly muffins made with Green Banana Flour. Yep, it's exactly what it sounds like, flour made from milled green bananas. Its lighter and fluffier than almond and coconut flour with a nutty and earthy flavour. Green banana flour contains resistant starch which basically means it is resistant to digestion. So, instead of a spike in blood sugar and feeling ravenous in an hour, green banana flour is low GI, keeping you feeling fuller for longer. 20.01.2022 NASA carried out a study called the Clean Air Study to determine which plants help to clean the air we breathe by eliminating harmful toxins. The spider plant was shown to clean the air from common household toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and xylene. For best results NASA suggests 1 plant per 10 square metres of home or office space. Better yet, spider plants are one of the easiest houseplants to grow, making them a great choice for beginners or forgetful owners. @planthammocks #houseplants #naturalsolutions #nontoxichome
20.01.2022 When you eat something loaded with sugar, your taste buds, your gut and your brain all take notice. This activation of your reward system is not unlike how bodies process addictive substances such as alcohol or nicotine -- an overload of sugar spikes dopamine levels and leaves you craving more.
18.01.2022 Just because a food product is gluten-free does not mean it's healthy! Harvard University reviewed 30 years worth of medical research and found that individuals that limited or completely avoided gluten had a 13% increased risk of type 2 diabetes. So does this mean gluten prevents diabetes? Probably not! But what it does suggest is that gluten-free products (bread, cereals, pasta, biscuits) often contain higher amounts of refined flours which contain significantly less fib...re and other nutrients helpful in preventing metabolic blood sugar disorders. The most common ingredients found in gluten-free products are rice and corn. A cup of whole wheat pasta has a glycemic index (GI) of about 37, whereas brown rice pasta has a GI of 92!! A blood sugar nightmare! So what now? When switching to a gluten-free diet steer clear of processed gluten-free products and refined carbohydrates. It's best to focus on fibre rich fresh veggies, fruit, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds and gluten-free whole grains such as quinoa, buckwheat and chia seeds. Switching to a gluten-free whole foods diet is not always easy. I encourage anyone interested in any therapeutic diet to work with a naturopath or nutritionist to select the most appropriate diet for you. See more
17.01.2022 Delicious creamy yoghurt made with coconut milk and probiotics! Tip: Use refrigerated probiotics and some sweetener (honey/maple syrup) to feed the bacteria.
15.01.2022 We're all guilty of staring at our phone before bed, but could it be affecting more than just your sleep? "It makes your attention falter, your memory is impaired, your ability to think through problems is changed, your insulin that helps regulate your metabolism is turned upside down so youre more likely to gain weight from what you eat. Its actually toxic!" - Dr Siegel

13.01.2022 The gut-brain connection is so important for anyone experiencing digestive issues but especially those with IBS and inflammatory bowel disease. Serotonin and dopamine are primarily produced in the gut, so if our gut health is in bad shape, these hormones are often out of whack resulting in anxiety, depression and low mood. @gutbrainaxis #guthealth #naturopathaustraliawide
12.01.2022 5 INGREDIENT SPICED CAULIFLOWER AND PUMPKIN : If you have a few simple ingredients on hand you CAN make a nourishing meal. No excuses right? 12.01.2022 Did you know approximately 80% of your immune system is found in the gut, and 95% of your serotonin, (the happy feel-good neurotransmitter), is made and stored in the intestines?

11.01.2022 Going organic can be a costly experience for the everyday household. If you cant afford to buy all of your fresh produce as organic and dont want to purchase foods with high amounts of pesticides, there is a simple answer. Buying the fruit and veg that appears on the Dirty Dozen list as organic balances out the cost whilst still reducing your bodys toxic load. Foods on the Clean 15 list are the least likely to be contaminated with pesticide residues and can be purchased without an organic certification. If going organic still isnt an option for you, washing conventional produce in a natural fruit and vegetable wash helps to remove fertilisers, waxes, herbicides and pesticides from the surface of fruit and vegetables.
10.01.2022 With winter fast approaching, for many that means cold and flu season. Fortunately, with a little help from cloves you can nib that sniffle in the bud. The oil of clove buds are well known for being antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, antiviral and an aphrodisiac Steeping 10 clove buds in your favourite herbal tea for 10-15 minutes can relieve a sore throat, help you kick a respiratory infection and settle an upset stomach.

07.01.2022 "Self Care Sunday was birthed to inspire you to do one thing for your beautiful self every Sunday. Its a time where you can relish looking after your spirit and soul, when you get to spend time doing the things that light you up from your core. Self-care is not selfish. Its essential for the good of you and the planet" - Melissa Ambrossini
07.01.2022 We're often told to steer clear of white foods, white bread, white flour, white rice, white sugar, but cauliflower is definitely one to embrace. Cauliflower is loaded with gut-loving fibre that helps with satiety, weight loss, a healthy digestive tract, as well as glucosinolates, a sulphurous compound that helps us to detoxify and neutralize carcinogens. Making an excellent healthy low carb alternative to rice, you can save your carb allowance for something a bit more fun.
07.01.2022 Love avocados? You'll love stuffed avocados even more. For a vegetarian/vegan alternative, swap the tuna for quinoa.
06.01.2022 Super Greens contain a plethora of essential nutrients, antioxidants and are rich in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the pigment vital for photosynthesis in plants and responsible for their vibrant green colour. Chlorophyll oxygenates red blood cells, alkalises the blood, deodorised the digestive tract and cleanses the liver. Adding Super Greens to a detoxification program or post-workout smoothie helps to reduce oxidative damage and encourages muscle recovery.
06.01.2022 Unless youve been living under a rock for the past 5 years, youve definitely heard of the green smoothie craze. The hero ingredients in green smoothies are dark leafy greens, providing loads of phytonutrients and antioxidants. But should all dark leafy greens be eaten raw? Well, not really. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage) contain isothiocyanates also known as goitrogens, which inhibit the absorption of iodine and consequently hinder thyroid... hormone production. In a nutshell, this can slow your metabolism and leave you feeling flat and sluggish. Does this mean you should never eat kale again? Definitely not! Cruciferous vegetables provide nutrients needed for cellular repair and detoxification. Cooking or even just lightly steaming inactivates the goitrogenic effect of cruciferous veggies. One serving of raw kale per day is totally fine especially if you're getting enough iodine in your diet. Tip - Pair up cruciferous veggies with iodine rich foods such as sea vegetables. One teaspoon of dried dulse flakes is all you need and takes delicious!! See more
05.01.2022 These are the absolute best! Soo easy to make! Low carb and high in protein. Perfect as a full meal or filling snack.
05.01.2022 Breakfast inspo thanks to @lastingredient - Grilled sourdough, butter, boiled eggs, chives, paprika, salt and pepper. Simply delish But Is sourdough really better than other breads? Though Sourdough bread is comparable to white bread in terms of calories and carbs, it is generally lower in sugar and higher in protein. But most importantly, it is much more easily digested due to the lactic acid that forms during the fermentation process. Its the presence lactic acid that helps decrease the amount of phytic acid in bread (phytic acid interferes with the absorption of other nutrients, especially zinc and iron). So while it is still bread, sourdough having lower levels of phytic acid gets a big thumbs up, by allowing other nutrients to be more absorbable and easily digested.
03.01.2022 Love this ancient symbol. It reminds us that life is a balancing act and most fullfilling when we embrace its dualities. The ups the downs, the good and the bad. Life @_aacma_
03.01.2022 Anxiety itself is a natural human response that serves a purpose. It's our bodies way of letting us know something is not quite right and out of balance. Our goal shouldn't be to dismiss it entirely but to make it a healthy, manageable part of our lives. Even if you don't suffer from an anxiety disorder, anxiety is part of our world, in the same way sadness and happiness are. The key is understanding how to cope with anxiety in a healthy way.
03.01.2022 Prescription medications can affect your body's absorption and utilization of vitamins and minerals. If you use birth control pills or HRT, make sure you're getting enough of these nutrients!
03.01.2022 Our gut does so much more than digest the food we eat. It has such a profound impact on our neurological function and contains so much neural tissue, that the gut is now referred to as "the second brain".
01.01.2022 Broths are not only for omnivores. Whilst plant based broths contain no collagen, they can be just as healing. The vegetables, herbs and spices in a vegetarian broth are loaded with minerals and antioxidants that are alkalising, hydrating, boost immunity and reduce inflammation.
