24.01.2022 CHOOSING ORAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS Here are some of the oral hygiene products and practices that our dentists recommend to keep your smile healthy and clean! Choose A SOFT BRISTLED TOOTHBRUSH. Brushing with a hard bristled brush can damage your gums & wear down your enamel FLUORIDATED TOOTHPASTE will help reduce tooth decay FLOSSING once a day contributes to good dental hygiene because it lifts and removes plaque and food caught in between your teeth... FLOSSING ALTERNATIVES- LARGE GAPS between your teeth? Try dental tape or super floss NOT MUCH SPACE between your teeth - try waxed floss, it’s easier to slide in tight spaces BRACES or BRIDGES - try water flosser (Waterpik), floss threader or super floss. FINDING IT HARD TO FLOSS - try interdental brushes or disposable flossers. MOUTHWASH - our dentists simply recommend regular brushing and flossing, for which mouthwash is certainly no substitute. If you enjoy using a mouthwash USE a mild mouthwash that DOESN’T CONTAIN ALCOHOL or strong antibacterial agent to avoid dry mouth. ARE YOU DUE FOR 6 monthly check up and clean. NATURAL LOOK and FEEL Many patients are often looking for aesthetic replacement options for their smile - dental implant/crowns are a perfect option. A GREAT INVESTMENT. 06.01.2022 MEET OUR DENTISTS Ever wondered what encourages someone to pursue a career in dentistry? DR PETER MARINOVIC (left) was drawn to dentistry because it allowed him to incorporate his love for science, working with hands and helping people. It’s satisfying when you can create a beautiful smile and to put patients at ease. Dr Peter Marinovic founded the Whites Dental Care practice in 2003. Dr Peter enjoys all aspects of dentistry, particularly implant surgery. He received his... Bachelor of Dental Science with honours from the University of Queensland, graduating in 2002. When Dr Marinovic isn’t busy seeing patients, he’s spending time with his family or driving his three children around to their various activities. On the weekends he also enjoys fishing, playing football and charity work for the homeless. DR CASSANDRA WEE (top right) As a child, Dr Cassandra enjoyed visiting her own dentist because they always made it a pleasant experience and she felt inspired. Dr Cassandra knew then, she wanted to be a dentist one day herself and have her patients experience the same high standard of care. Dr Cassandra obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the renowned UK Sheffield University, graduating in 2012. Dr Cassandra has a keen interest in Invisalign. When not practicing Dentistry: Dr Cassandra loves being with her dog and spending time staying active and going to the gym. DR ANTHONY LAZAROU Dr Anthony (bottom right) always had a keen eye for detail and felt Dentistry was a perfect match for hands on treatments with a science background. Dr Anthony completed his degree at the University of Melbourne and furthered his studies by completing Fellowship in Implant Dentistry at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami USA. When not practicing Dentistry - Dr Anthony loves fishing, going to the gym and spending time with his extended family and friends.

06.01.2022 2021 New Year’s Goals - BETTER TEETH There’s a reason why we recommend a regular twice yearly dental check - it’s because it’s the safest amount of time to allow for detection of any possible oral health issues, which includes tooth decay and gum disease. It’s also the perfect opportunity to remove the build-up of hardened plaque from your teeth in a routine scale and clean. Nothing beats the feeling of walking out of the dental clinic feeling fresh and clean.... Protect your children’s teeth with Custom-Fit Mouthguard. They are designed to fit seamlessly and reduce injury to the mouth, teeth and jaw while playing high-impact or contact sports. Happy new year to all our new and existing Whites Dental Care patients!! We are excited and motivated for a fantastic 2021. We encourage each of you to make yours and your children’s teeth a priority and call us to book in soon. 9908 7889

04.01.2022 How can I help PREVENT tooth decay? Have sweet foods and sugary drinks only occasionally and if possible at mealtimes Brush twice a day, floss daily to clean the bacteria off the teeth and tongue... Limit frequency of snacking. Indulge with meals instead of snacking throughout the day, especially before bed. Swish your mouth with plain water after snacking and wait about 30 minutes to brush your teeth. Use fluoride toothpaste, Chew some Xylitol gum to reduce cavity-causing bacteria. Getting regular check ups ( twice yearly) helps make sure you catch this decay early

04.01.2022 WHEN SHOULD KIDS START FLOSSING? Flossing should start when your child has 2 teeth that touch. Teaching your child proper brushing and flossing techniques is important for developing good oral hygiene habits. Parents should help or supervise kids flossing until children are 10 yrs old. Flossing lowers the risk of tooth decay.
