25.01.2022 This term, students in year 2 commenced a brand new writing unit that was created for the purpose of including Indigenous perspectives. During the planning of this unit, local members from both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities were liaised with in order to create a highly engaging unit that not only educates students on Indigenous culture, but also meets Australian Curriculum standards in reading and writing. Year 2 students had the opportunity to read a... range of Indigenous stories including ‘How the Cassowary got its Helmet’, ‘Boori Guman’, ‘Dabu the Baby Dugong’ and ‘Gelam the Man from Moa’. Students used these stories as inspiration to create their own narratives based on a picture prompt. Students also created pictures to compliment their narratives using a range of materials such as paint, oil pastels, natural materials etc. Finally, to end each week, students had a turn at storytelling. One fantastic highlight included the year 2’s visit to a year 6 class, where students paired with a buddy to present their work. 17.01.2022 Mini Physicists’ Home Made Lava Lamps! It was tricky to catch the bubbles on camera, but once students added salt to their water and oil, it created bubbles in their bottles that went up and down in the bottle, just like a real lava lamp!

10.01.2022 What an amazing day! We caught some fish, lost our bait, learnt how to cast, built remarkable group sand sculptures and raced each other on the sand. There is no better way to spend time with your friends in your last year of primary schooling.

10.01.2022 Last week, year 2 students participated in a visit from the volunteers Cairns Museum. This experience links with students recent HASS units about changing technologies. The volunteers spent time telling students stories from the past and showing them a range of old school objects, tools, toys and utensils. Thank you to the Cairns Museum for this great experience!

10.01.2022 SOLID PATHWAYS SCIENCE WEEK PRESENTATION Congratulations to Wilson whose Science presentation for Australian Science Week was selected as a winner in the Year 4 section. Wilson and his parents visited the L.R.C. and joined a Virtual online Presentation this week. How exciting to see his experiment titled, Bouncing Eggs showcased on the Solid Pathways iSee platform alongside other winners from all corners of the state of Queensland. ... No hypothesis here Wilson’s scientific process was brilliant!
