25.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why there are so many different ways people worship and express their faith? When did these expressions start? What influenced and formed them? Who Christians are now has been partially shaped and formed by our history. To explore those questions is to explore the historical journey of the early church. In Whitley College's 'Story of Christianity Part I' we will explore 1400 years of history to see what changes occurred along the way, and the role they ...played in shaping the church today. Open to current Whitley students, students of other institutions (check your eligibility with your course coordinator) and on an audit basis for only $350 (usually $500) until 31 January 2021. 24.01.2022 It's Exam Week for Whitley's students. Please keep them in your prayers. For those who are facing exams, our Principal Rev Professor René Erwich has written a prayer to strengthen and encourage you. Prayer for the end of the semester... Loving God, I pray that you would go before me and stand behind me in these coming weeks of finishing this semester with the assignments and study tasks. I pray that I would be strengthened by your presence, and that I would know you are with me always. Thank you for always being near to me, for showering your blessings upon me when I am undeserving, for providing for me in little and big ways that remind me of your constant faithfulness. You have made a way for me to get this far, and I'm so grateful. I pray for your wisdom and discernment in this season. Help me to prioritise my tasks and assignments intentionally, and focus wholeheartedly on what needs to be accomplished. I pray that I would be committed to this final work in this so different year, that I would care deeply about what is important in all of it. Keep me faithful, Lord. Strengthen me when I begin to feel weary. Renew my spirits when I start to falter. Surround me with encouraging friends, wisdom and practical help from others. May I do all of this for the glory of your name. May it all contribute to sharing the hope that is in you. Amen.

18.01.2022 Megan Turton, a specialist on law in the Hebrew Bible, joins the 'By The Well' podcast to talk about the Decalogue and legal narrative in Exodus. Holiness, identity, and mutual covenant are key themes to explore. In the gospel reading, conflict continues between Jesus and the other Jewish leaders. We discuss the parable of the vineyard in Matthew 21 and the challenge of preaching such passages without repeating the anti-jewish sentiments of the text.

17.01.2022 Have you wondered what the impact of the COVID crisis has meant for teachers? In this video, Anne Lock (Director of WellSpring) and Peter Bentley (Coordinator of Spiritual Formation) chat about the impact of the pandemic on their work in the Wellspring Centre, and how their teaching team and students rose to the challenges of online learning.

09.01.2022 And when you find a very tiny seashell (3.5mm) and you can only be in awe about the detail and colour... Recently our Principal, René Erwich, took this photo. This can be a very busy and stressful time of year, and it's easy to forget to take a moment and notice the small beauties all around us. We pray that you will find time in the busy-ness of this season to rest and reflect.

07.01.2022 The advent season is one of hope, where we, as a broad community of faith, look forward to the coming of Christ. This is an image of hope in a time when hope and connection are truly needed. While online video has enabled us to connect in a whole bunch of new ways and maintained contact when no other option is available, there is no doubt that as people, we have real desire and need for real life connection and engagement. Celebrating, connecting and sharing together are all... ways in which we can embody this reality - as people of hope. I trust that for all our community, you are able to take all that you have learnt, shared and celebrated as members of the Whitley community this year to your homes, friends, families, churches and communities as you embody the hope that Christ has given us. Blessings to you all, have a safe and holy Christmas David Janssen (Academic Dean)

04.01.2022 **Thinking of studying in 2021?** WHYODICY - The journey one goes on when trying to make sense of a good God amongst a pandemic. One of the most challenging questions people ask is If God is good, how can he let bad things happen? This question has been at the front of the conversation throughout our current pandemic. How do we respond to this delving question being asked by a hurting world?... For centuries scholars and theologians have discussed the different replies Christian theodicies offer. In Whitley’s course 'Suffering, Faith and Theodicy' we will look at both sides of the discussion; Christian theodicies and anti-theodicies. Open to current Whitley students, students of other institutions (check your eligibility with your course coordinator) and on an audit basis for only $350 (usually $500) until 31 January 2021. For more information about this subject, click here: https://www.whitley.edu.au///suffering-faith-and-theodicy/

03.01.2022 As restrictions begin to ease and we gradually increase in-person gatherings once again, we remember that church isn’t a building, but a community of people who love and honour Jesus through the lives they live. Blessings on you as you gather with your loved ones over the coming weeks!
