23.01.2022 JULY SALE! Hit the sweet spot with your gardening and add sugar cane mulch to boost your growing results. This month at WhitPRO - ON SALE - receive a 12sqm bag of cut sugar cane mulch for only $11!... Why use sugar cane mulch? Quality mulch allows water to freely penetrate down into the soil and will contribute to the health of the soil when it breaks down. Natural mulches will decompose over time and as the earthworms and soil microbes digest the particles and transfer them into the soil below, the soil quality is improved. Come and see us on Paluma Road to grab a few bags to spread on your garden. Perfect for your winter veggie patch!

22.01.2022 #FunFactFriday During the 1600s, tulips were so valuable in Holland that their bulbs were worth more than gold. The craze was called tulip mania, or tulipomania, and caused the crash of the Dutch economy. Tulips can continue to grow as much as an inch per day after being cut.

16.01.2022 #Pavers and #pebbles - a brilliant combination for creating an affordable garden path. Did you know we sell both at WhitPRO? Come in and see us on Paluma Road to see our range! A paver and pebble path can be laid in a day. There are a number of ways this can be achieved, whether you opt for sand to keep the pavers in place or if you go for extra security and mix a cement-based mortar to hold the stepping stones.... Pebbles and stones make attractive fillers for around the pavers, or you can opt to put a coloured mulch to blend the surface in with an existing garden you may have beside the path. Either way, a path can reduce the wear and tear on your lawn by directing people where you want them to walk. Come in and see us for more landscaping ideas and expert tips on self-improvement for your home! Or, we can do the hard work for you. #ThursdayTip #WhitPRO

04.01.2022 #WednesdayWisdom with Whitpro! HOW TO PLANT YOUR VEGETABLES & HERBS FROM SEEDS SUCCESSFULLY... Sowing fine seeds like carrots and lettuce is made easier by mixing the seeds with dry sand so that seeds are spaced well when planting. Rather then digging them in, spread them on the surface of the soil and cover with a thin layer of seed raising mix or sieved soil.... Sowing large seeds like peas and beans can be done in a shallow trench made with a stick or the end of your rake. Plant the seeds twice the depth of the width of the seed. Plant evenly spaced apart unless you are planting vining vegetables like pumkins and cucumbers, these can be planted in clumps of three. KEEP YOUR SEEDS MOIST. If your seeds dry out they will not germinate. In about 7-14 days your seeds will be germinating. When they have 2 sets of leaves it is a good time to give them a liquid fertiliser to give them a great start. A weak seasol solution is a great option. Thin out any seedlings that are growing too close together at this stage. They’ll need room to grow and allowing space between your plants will reduce the chance of fungal diseases. Come and visit us at Paluma Road for more hints and tips to get you growing! #Whitsundays #LoveWhitsundays #Gardening

02.01.2022 #WednesdayWisdom Are you looking for something that's affordable, entertaining, educational, beneficial and fun for your kids to do in the school holidays? Those are a lot of boxes to tick, but setting up a veggie garden provides all of those benefits!... A simple way to start is to do a couple of short raised beds in a sunny position in your garden and get the kids involved.. Purchase a bag of Cocopro (available from Whitpro), make two raised mounds of soil about 30cm apart. A small bag of seed raising mix will increase your chances of a good yield. Grab a packet of mixed lettuce seeds. A bag of cut sugar cane mulch will keep weeds at bay and will keep in heat and moisture (on special at Whitpro too!). Important: Keep your seeds moist watering every morning to ensure germination. Cost: Under $30 A great family activity that will grow enough lettuce to last you for weeks! Come and see us at Whitpro on Paluma Road and we will help you out with all you need to get your veggie garden underway.

02.01.2022 How's the first week of the school holidays treating you? Stay strong and use this Encourage Mint to get you through ;) Have a great week!... #MondayMotivation
