22.01.2022 In late March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jetstar Australia and Virgin Australia suspended all flights indefinitely into Whitsunday Coast Airport. Please be advised that the terminal currently remains closed to the public. Jetstar Australia and Virgin Australia will continue to review the situation in line with current government restrictions.... The public should contact airlines directly regarding any online forward bookings if they have any concerns that flights will not have resumed. The respective airlines are solely responsible for any decisions on when they will resume flights to WCA. Whitsunday Coast Airport will remain operationally functional and general aviation businesses or private aircraft that utilise the airport precinct outside of the terminal may continue to operate as usual. JETSTAR statement: Given low demand due to COVID-19 restrictions our domestic services in Australia are cancelled until at least the end of this month - we are only operating the government’s minimum viable network. Our teams are closely monitoring the ongoing restrictions and any further impact to our flying schedules will be communicated to customers. We’ve enhanced the flexibility for our customers allowing the use of credit vouchers across multiple bookings and extended their period of validity (twelve months to redeem a voucher and 12 extra months to travel from the date of redemption). 13.01.2022 Whitsunday Coast Airport would like to advise that the Queensland border closures and travel restrictions are implemented by the State Government. These state border restrictions mean that anyone who arrives in Queensland (via air, sea, rail or road) from another State or Territory from 26 March, 2020 must self-quarantine for 14 days. The Queensland Police Service have been deployed to screen and interview all passengers arriving at the WCA from either Sydney or Melbourne to ...help enforce these border restrictions. On Tuesday extra security bollards were erected at the arrival gate so police could interview passengers, determine reason for travel, record passenger details and instruct those arriving about the rules of travel and self-quarantine. This action is coordinated under the authority of the Queensland Police Service. As announced yesterday, Virgin Australia flight services will cease as of today and be reviewed again in mid-June. Jetstar have also announced they intend to suspend all flights but are yet to confirm the date from which flights will cease. Both airlines will continue to review the situation in line with current government restrictions. Whitsunday Coast Airport will remain operationally functional and the terminal will remain open until the final Jetstar flight. WCA have no control over any airlines decision regarding flight suspensions. General aviation businesses and private aircraft that utilise the Whitsunday Coast Airport precinct outside of the terminal may continue to operate as usual.

08.01.2022 Whitsunday Coast Airport flights take off for Sydney It’s time to fly and Whitsunday Coast Airport (WCA) is making it easier for everyone to take off with direct flights to Sydney resuming on Saturday. Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said the good news keeps coming for our region with Jetstar’s announcement that they will resume flying three return flights per week direct to Sydney from July 11.... After being forced to shut down during the Covid-19 pandemic the airport is quickly regaining flights to open up our region for visitors. Our airport team have been proactive in positioning WCA at the front of the airline queue for resuming flights, This aggressive approach has also presented opportunities for new route growth and hopefully we will have some exciting announcements in the next few weeks, Mayor Willcox said. It is so important for our tourism stakeholders and businesses that the Whitsunday Coast Airport plays a leading role in kick-starting our region’s economic recovery. Mayor Willcox also said the recent purchase of a D-Link Thermal Camera for temperature body scanning and testing at the airport was a valuable tool in reducing Covid-19 risks. The thermal camera can assess up to 30 people simultaneously and alert security staff to anybody recording a high temperature reading for further checks. It is important for our region’s economy that we open up our borders to approved states and this thermal camera will help keep our community safe. WCA Chief Operating Officer Craig Turner said with most borders reopening from Friday growing connectivity by air was important for our region's recovery. From Saturday we will have almost 5000 passengers transiting in and out of the region weekly. The airport now has Alliance flying 4 times per week to Brisbane return, Jetstar flying daily return flights to Brisbane and 3 return flights to Sydney from Saturday and Virgin has 3 return flights per week to Brisbane. The airport is focusing on leveraging the expected travel demand of the huge domestic population bases of Sydney and Brisbane to enjoy some winter sun in the wonderful Whitsundays. The region was buzzing again last weekend with an influx of visitors in Airlie Beach, Proserpine and Bowen plus the Proserpine and Collinsville RV areas. We know Australians are itching for a great holiday and these increased flights will help to ensure that Queensland capitalises on this demand, he said.

03.01.2022 The Whitsunday Region is open for business and already has more direct flights from Brisbane touching down than prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whitsunday Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Aviation and Tourism, Craig Turner said 20 flights per week from Brisbane touched down during the school holiday period. The load factors were very high which means over 20,000 visitors landed in the Whitsundays last month, he said.... The border to New South Wales is set to re-open from November 1 and when that happens, we will add three Jetstar flights from Sydney each week. "The trend for people to explore the wonderful Whitsundays in the absence of international travel has provided a unique opportunity for our region. We will work with airlines to leverage every opportunity for extra services and new routes, Mr Turner said.
