25.01.2022 It is a beautiful time of year to be out on the water - enjoying the islands, sighting whales and throwing out a line or two! Council would like to remind residents and visitors that Boat and Trailer parking at the Port of Airlie is reserved for boats and trailers, and permit holders, only. There is a free overflow carpark provided by Council on Waterson Way when the Port of Airlie carpark is full. Thank you for your cooperation, and have a great weekend

24.01.2022 Whitsunday Regional Council will be trialling a Lake Harvester at Cannonvale Lake commencing on Monday, November 9 to remove aquatic weeds from the lake. This exciting project with Burdekin Shire Council will remove and reduce the build-up of weeds in Cannonvale Lake. There will be no threat to any marine or wildlife during this process. Monitoring for regrowth will continue after this first initial trial to judge the success and if results are positive then Council will cons...ider a maintenance schedule for a possible yearly harvest. The harvesting process will take up to three days and Council are also investigating other options to keep the weed growth at a minimum.
24.01.2022 Please be advised that residential and commercial properties in Cannonvale, Airlie Beach and Jubilee Pocket may potentially experience a change in water quality and/or reduced water pressure due to an urgent valve shutdown undertaken yesterday 28/10/2020 in preparation for the upcoming new bulk water main infrastructure connection. 24.01.2022 The Collinsville Country Women’s Association are a step closer to construction of their new $325,000 hall after Whitsunday Regional Council approved a $14,670 donation at a recent council meeting in Bowen. Andrew Willcox - Mayor, Whitsunday Regional Council said Council’s donation would cover the cost of the development application fees for the new Collinsville Hall. The CWA Hall is a community hub for the people of Collinsville and I am delighted Council can assist with the... construction of a new facility, he said. Michelle Wright - Councillor for Div 4 Whitsunday Regional Council said the old hall was falling apart and had major issues with asbestos. The only viable option for the committee was to demolish the old building and construct a new hall, she said. The QCWA Collinsville branch are such an integral part of the Collinsville community and Council support is vital. The group secured $325,000 in funding from the Federal Government last year for a new building and the Council donation is the final piece of the puzzle so construction on the new facility is expected to start during the Christmas school holidays.

23.01.2022 Shute Harbour Restoration Update The Shute Harbour seawall is 95% completed, with only a few remaining parts of the wall to be finished once the refurbished pontoons have been re-installed. The last 5% of the seawall is expected to be completed by the end of January 2021 The refurbished finger pontoons, which travelled to Townsville last year for restoring, will be returning to Shute Harbour over the next month and will be installed by the end of January 2021.... There will be occasional night works over the next month to pour concrete for the new terminal building, with works beginning from midnight and going through to the morning. By pouring the concrete during the cooler hours we can counteract the impact of hot days during the curing process, which can lead to cracking and unacceptable quality in the concrete. We thank you for your patience and understanding during these works. 16.01.2022 Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen joined Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox and Deputy Mayor John Collins at the site of the new Proserpine Entertainment Centre to announce $67,000 funding towards a new cenotaph. Mr Christensen said the new memorial will be much more resilient and will serve as the centre-piece for ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies for many generations to come. Mayor Willcox said Council had applied for funding under the Federa...l Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program after a request from the Proserpine RSL sub-branch seeking funding assistance for a new cenotaph to be built. With the construction of the new $18 million Proserpine Entertainment Centre underway the original plan was to relocate the existing cenotaph but it was identified that the marble plaques, which have already been moved twice previously, are deteriorating, and also incorrect information was displayed, he said. Council worked closely with the Proserpine RSL to design new plaques and also help relocate the original marble plaques inside at the nearby RSL building. The new location for the cenotaph will allow more people to safely view the monument and also larger crowds to participate in major ceremonies like ANZAC Day. The continued funding support from Member for Dawson George Christensen and the Federal Government and has ensured we suitably honour the memory of our veterans with a new cenotaph. The Federal grant will complement the $21,687 new cenotaph funding recently announced by the Queensland Government under the Queensland Veteran’s Memorial Grants Program. The Proserpine Cenotaph is expected to be completed in time for Remembrance Day, November 11, 2021. 12.01.2022 The walk-in COVID-19 testing clinic will re-open at Airlie Beach Lagoon on Friday to provide more testing opportunities in the Whitsundays. Opening hours will b...e advised later today. This follows the discovery of traces of COVID-19 virus in sewage at the Cannonvale treatment plant on September 21. There was a previous detection of virus fragments on 20 August, but results were clear in samples on 31 August, 7 and 14 September. These surveillance tests are extremely sensitive and can pick up tiny pieces of the genetic material of the virus. The result does not necessarily mean there are active cases in the Airlie Beach / Cannonvale region. There are no known outbreaks or cases in the area however we cannot rule out the possibility that infectious persons were or are still in the area, who have not been tested. People who have recovered from COVID-19 can have live or dead virus in their stool for weeks after recovery. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, or loss of smell or taste is urged to be tested. 05.01.2022 Direct flights Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne take off Welcome to the Whitsundays - Heart of the Great Barrier Reef will be the messaging when Whitsunday Coast ...Airport (WCA) becomes travel central from December 1 with direct flights to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne resuming. Andrew Willcox - Mayor, Whitsunday Regional Council welcomed State Government’s decision to open the borders to greater Sydney and Victoria from next Tuesday. The great news for the Whitsundays is that there will be more weekly flights next month than at our operating peak pre-COVID-19, he said. Tourism is one of our three key pillars and having our airport back operating at record capacity is a remarkable achievement. "The airport team have been proactive in positioning WCA at the front of the airline queue for resuming flights to make it easy to visit the wonderful Whitsundays. "It is so important for our tourism stakeholders and businesses that the Whitsunday Coast Airport plays a leading role in kick-starting our region's economic recovery," Mayor Willcox said. We have also gone the extra mile to ensure the safety of our community with the addition of a new D-Link Thermal Camera for temperature body scanning proving an invaluable tool in reducing Covid-19 risks. "The thermal camera can assess up to 30 people simultaneously and alert security staff to anybody recording a high temperature reading. If a passenger does record a high temperature they are diverted to undergo further checks, he said. Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe MP said the Palaszczuk Government’s $15 million Aviation Recovery Fund would support Virgin Australia services from Sydney and Jetstar services from Melbourne. This is great news for the region and Australians, because everybody deserves a Whitsundays holiday, Mr Hinchliffe said. Support from the Palaszczuk Government’s Aviation Recovery Fund means every week three Virgin Australia flights from Sydney and three Melbourne Jetstar services will touch down in the Whitsundays. These flights will land an estimated $6.6 million in overnight visitor spending and support more than 50 jobs in the Whitsundays. The Palaszczuk Government’s Aviation Recovery Fund is getting visitors back in the air as quickly as possible to support jobs and fast-track the Whitsunday’s COVID economic recovery plan. After COVID-19, Sydney and Melbourne are desperate for a holiday in the tropical sun and we know it’s hard to beat the Whitsundays for the perfect break. Across Queensland, the Palaszczuk Government’s Aviation Recovery Fund has so far supported 17 services, worth an estimated $63.5 million in overnight visitor stays and support for 515 jobs. Chief Operating Officer - Aviation and Tourism Craig Turner said it was important to move quickly as borders reopen. Growing connectivity by air is so important to speed up the recovery of our region. We will now have two airlines, Jetstar Australia and Virgin Australia into the huge Sydney catchment and this is the first time in 15 years that Virgin will fly the Whitsunday-Sydney route direct. "At our peak in December we will have a record high of over 10,300 passengers transiting in and out of the region weekly," Mr Turner said. "We are focusing on leveraging the pent-up travel demand of the huge domestic population bases of Sydney and Melbourne to holiday in the wonderful Whitsundays. "We know Australians are itching for a great holiday and these increased flights will help to ensure that our region capitalises on this demand."
05.01.2022 Mayor Andrew Willcox, CEO, Councillors and council’s executive management team visited the Collinsville area yesterday to give the new Council the opportunity to learn more about the local facilities and to check in on recently completed projects. During a busy full day trip to the Collinsville area, the group visited the Collinsville Sewage and Water Treatment Plants, the new Collinsville Lookout, a site tour of Glencore Mine, visited Bowen River Hotel and discussed funding ...and design for the Ted Cunningham Bridge, called in at the Collinsville Depot, old Powerhouse, checked out the Collinsville Solar Farm and ended their day with visits to the Collinsville RV Park and Lions Park. Mayor Andrew Willcox said his focus from day one as Mayor was engaging and connecting with the Whitsunday community to ensure his Council acted for the whole of region. The pandemic has kept Councillors grounded initially but it is important that we keep in touch with our residents at grassroots level and stay abreast of issues within our broad regional community. Getting out and about as a group to visit and tour Council’s network is beneficial to ensure that myself and Councillors understand the important infrastructure needs of our residents. Over the next month the CEO, Councillors, executive team and I will undertake similar visits to the Proserpine, Bowen and Airlie Beach/Cannonvale areas of the Whitsunday region, he said. The Collinsville day trip was hot on the heels of our Collinsville Community Consultation last Friday afternoon to talk with Collinsville and Scottville residents and hear their feedback regarding the future for their towns. We held a community sausage sizzle and public display and over 50 residents attended to give their feedback to Councillors and staff, Mayor Willcox said.
