18.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emerge...ncy. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).

11.01.2022 KARIJINI RESCUE A Swiss woman has been rescued overnight from Karijini National Park in the Pilbara, after falling in a gorge and breaking her leg. The 47-year-...old woman and her brother activated an emergency beacon about 6pm. Police from Tom Price and park rangers found the woman about 600 metres into Kalamina gorge, lying by a pool. She was carried out of the gorge in darkness and rain and taken to Tom Price hospital. Police said the rescue is a reminder of how crucial emergency beacons can be if you're hiking in remote places. By activating the Personal Locator Beacon, or PLB, the injured woman was able to immediately alert authorities to the fact she was in distress, and the PLB provided police with her location, they said in a statement. Had the woman not had the PLB with her she may have remained injured and unable to move for an extended period of time. PLBs and EPIRBs are critical pieces of equipment when hiking, especially in remote or rocky places. This incident serves as a timely reminder to everyone just how valuable they are to your personal safety. : Tom Price Police
